We got in behind the West Ham right back at least half a dozen times in the second half. Its what happened after that...the balls usually rolled into an empty space where Ba,Shola,Cabaye or Anita should have been. And when Obertan came on he beat his man on the other side a couple of times too. Thats how goals are scored, getting in behind defenders and we did it regularly in the second half. You're claiming otherwise because there was no end product, but you've got to look at the facts.

CT you want to lay off the Kronenbourg pre game mate. Penetration down the flanks wasnt a problem on Sunday.

jesus...10 years ago today... 2002 Feyenoord (a) 3-2 (1-0) Champs League Match 6 Bellamy(45+1,90+1), Viana(49) Bombarda(65), Lurling(71) 45,000 No matter what Newcastle managed to get from their trip to Rotterdam, there was surely no way an under-strength Juventus would get the result in Kiev that Sir Bobby Robson's side needed in order to complete a remarkable comeback to qualify. But when Craig Bellamy returned from a three game ban to score on the stroke of half-time and the Italians were holding Dynamo, the impossible dream was suddenly on. Hugo Viana made it 2-0 but Kiev then netted through Shatskikh - a goal that seemed to dash our hopes of qualification. Juventus then dramatically equalised just three minutes later - through Salas - as Feyenoord got one back through sub Mariano Bombarda. And then Juve scored again, Zalayeta putting the Serie A side ahead on 61 minutes. We needed to hang onto to our lead but Feyenoord promptly equalised through Anthony Lurling as United threatened to capitulate. With Juventus hanging on for what was their first away win in this competition in 18 attempts (since winning in Kiev four years earlier), Newcastle needed inspiration. And it came indirectly through Kieron Dyer, who broke through the Dutch defence and seemed a certain scorer, only to shoot weakly at Patrick Lodewijks. The rebound though went no further than Bellamy, who squeezed the ball between keeper and post for an incredible finish in the first minute of added time. German referee Franz Xaver-Wack then kept the travelling Magpies in agonies for two more minutes before blowing his whistle - the party truly getting underway when confirmation of Juve's success filtered through.

Can't we trry to get Paula Broadwell to run?...she's no Kelly Brook, but she's causing commotion in my underwear department this morning...I think its her nasty abuse of power and trust that's turning me on, the fuckin evil scheming bitch

I see...dont know much about Edwards but SB is pretty good when it comes to NUFC.
-
Sounds like his agents been on the phone...perhaps trying to drum up interest from another club by geting the story into the press. I dont know why these journo's let themselves be used like that. Theres a reason most people have a low opinion of football reporters and its usually because of stuff like this.
-
Would key players being mising possibly have a bearing on that?....
-
Well he doesnt. Certainly not yesterday. The fact is I agree largely with a lot of that, but not about the effect its having on the team. How many times did a player beat the West Ham right back yesterday?....I counted 6 times in the second half. That should be 3 goals. Someone from midfield shouldve been in the spaces where the ball was being put into. So either Cabaye is being told to hold back or he cant be arsed to attack. Or without Tiote he doesnt trust Anita to shut the door on a counter attack. So its either Cabayes heed being turned or a tactical fuck up or we're missing the suspended Tiote, who's abscnece is self inflicted, his rep precedes him now. The real, truly depressing thing for me is if we hadnt targeted the hopelsss WH rightback, if we had acheived no penetration down that flank because of the weakness of that player. Thats what wins games against tight sides like the ones Allardyce put out.Its not all Brazil 70 man. We acheived what we set out to do, target the right back, we just couldnt finish it because probably a mixture of the things I mentioned. Bottom line is a good mananger will address the problems I've outlined, and for many Pardew was a good manager last season. Whats changed?

But the investment/transfer system that got last seasons results is still the system we have today. One thing we're going to need in Ashley's brave new world where we may get seasons like 2010/11 is a hell of a lot of paticence. We're not going to get the players we need when we need them with Ashley, anyone who has let this slip from their mind is serously misreading him and the club's situation. And as it was good enough last season, I dont get why people who showered the regime with praise 6 months ago are having nervous breakdowns this morning. Nothings changed.

Thats what it is, the competative advantage the licence fee gives the beeb over everyone else that really bothers them. The trouble is, until the Saville thing the beeb could take the moral high ground...you'd never find them supporting Hitler or bugging the phones of murder victim's families. But now it looks very much like they were protecting a known paedophile for decades...only themsleves to blame.
-
Why? its like we've never been beaten by a shite side at home before during a run of poor results Perspective is needed. I felt more like knee jerking after the Brighton and Fulham away games last season tbh.
-
The Beeb look hopeless in this but the gall of the likes of the Mail and the Murdoch press in taking the moral high ground
-
The same couldve been said last sasson, all sides had iffy spells then as well. Chelsea had an iffy season in the league all round, perhaps because they were concentrating on the champs league. The time to anylise us is the end of the season. I'll probably join in if theres no real changes post January. But last season should've bought Pardew some time and space to try and sort the problems out. The 8 year contract says he's likely to get some from Ashley.
-
Yeah, because we over acheived last season. That raised expectations. There are obviously problems, but ffs its nothing like the relegation season and last season gave us all a lot of hope. We're in the middle. Where we usually fuckin are. Amen.
-
Thats the key, things are plainly not as they were last season. I think managing expectations is important too though, and Europe was bound to have an effect with Ashley's transfer policy. We don't get the players we need until the deal's right, and if its not it doesnt go ahead. I think the Debuchy thing was down to Lille largely though, the the players comments last week. They didnt want to sell him to us.
-
When you were claiming that everything was rosey in the garden last season could you not see it was one or two players pulling us along?...theyre not doing it this season for whatever reasons, and now we're likely relegation fodder? Am not buying it CT, the same way I didn't buy into your evangelism of all things Ashley/Pardew last season. I understand you're paying good money for awful performances and that gives you every right to state you're case but I think you're over-egging it. It wasnt as good as you claimed last season and its not as bad (overall, the performances are awful) this season.
-
This is the thing...most on here weren't predicting a return to the top 5 and as far back as the end of last season due to the rigours of the Europa League (and a lot were happy enough with that tbh, look at the various predictions back then) so I think CT's wummer comments are a bit of a joke tbh. Not that Pardew (rightly) used Europe as an excuse...he's rotated the squad well enough. Add to that other traditional knee-jerk comments about getting rid of Pardew from the usual suspect(s) and you'd think we were in Sothamptons posistion and not bimbling along in mid table. Pardew's tactics this season are questionable, thats unarguable, but as we said yesterday, we regularly got into good enough posistions to create real oppurtunities but fucked up the final ball. And anyone expecting to see an NUFC side play like Keegans 1990s side in 2012 is living on another planet. We didnt do that last season either, we relied largely on brilliant runs of form from Ba,HBA and Cisse. Pardew is a pragmatist and demands safety first, thats why HBA couldnt get into the team last season until he bucked his ideas up defensively, and getting now forgotten compliments from many on here for the way he handled that. And he's got an 8 year contract so all those showering him with praise last season and annhilating him this need to have a think about it. One thing thats plain as day for me though is that some of the top performers from last season dont look interested this season. I think a lot of heads have been turned. This is a trrue test of Pardew's ability as a manager. Redknapp acheived 4th last season from a similar posistion and set of circumstances so we'll see if Pardew can get the likes of Cabaye and Cisse firing again. Or maybe we'll see one or two of them go in January.
-
Plain as day J....watching the long ball shite is awful, but it cant be denied, we got into good posisitions but failed to capitilise on them.
-
Aye, fair enough. But honestly, the amount of times we got in behind them today with no one on the edge of the box to cut it back to. Where the fuck was he, or Anita? cant they speak to each other?.. "I'll sit in, you support the attack"... thats whats got my goat. We did enough graft to win that game, but the finesse to finish the moves off wasnt there.
-
Instead of criticing the players who we know are a bit average, can any of the assmebled armchair experts give me a run down on Cabaye's second half contribution please? He's played 95% of the season like he wishes he was in London, he goes missing for huge swathes of games. Only his immense ability has on the odd occasion masked this.
