  2. Got to say am seriously looking at it..got 2 properties to sell, the missus has one, the one I have in Poole was bought 13 years ago....no kids either. Very, very fortunate. Am off to Kharkiv next week too Work could be tricky, but theres one or two options. In a way we're both waiting to get the flick from where we work now..
  3. I've got a plan too....would love to move to Alnmouth, or possibly Alnwick itself. Alnmouth sits right on the trainline like Berwick, but is almost a well kept scret as far as living there is concerned. Warkworth comes a very close second, especially as the Red Lion(?) has a dodgy satellite box and is known to show NUFC games...lots of Mags in Northumberland
  4. Agreed. Foulden, Paxton etc all lie in Scotland but are no more than 3 or 4 miles away.East Ord is lovely, but in England. My folks love Berwick but wont be moving back over the border in their 70's for current and obvious reasons.
  5. Know it well from my childhood....depends what you are used to...if your bag is a truly historic market town that, same as most places, has seen better days then you'd fit in well, especially if you appreciate to one extent or another that the locals consider themselves to be a bit of a "nation without a flag"; To me its a bit tatty round the edges in town, and has lost a bit of its charm, the famous "Berwick Cockle" shop has closed, which is a bit like Newcastle losing Fenwicks; the defining retailers of the borough, even though it was only a sweet shop, but as I say, that was part of it's charm. The Bear Hotel looks a bit tatty too. The docks aren't as big a concern as they were, the shipyard where my old man worked is long gone, ditto fishing. Housing as you say is cheap, but thats in line with wages. The whole Borders area is a bit of a backwater tbh, if you go clubbing a couple of times a month you'd be disappointed with the er "local scene". Theres a theatre at the Maltings, the odd comic calls in now and then and the usual local folk clubs etc. A cleanish beach at Spittal, one further down at Scremerston too, that ones a bit more "windswept and interesting". Not for the faint hearted even in Summer though. But the whole place has something about it; my parents would move their tomorrow if they could. The river, the walls....I'd get the train up and look around if I were you.
  6. He'll maybe play both games v Kharkiv; one with Taylor and one with Colo?....
  7. Isnt Ken in Oz?...middle of the night posting=pissed as a fart. Unless he's on nightshift. Nightshift=fuckin idiot.
  8. When this news popped up on my screen yesterday lunchtime for some reason I burst out laughing and said something along the lines of, to no one in particular "well there you go, I thought Paul Lambert at Villa was favourite to walk acording to the bookies".....which struck the senior admin girl sat 10 feet away as a distinctly odd thing to say..."What you laughing at?"...she said, "The Pope has resigned, probably for something very bad indeed" I replied; at which point the her two collegues, an Irish girl and another young lady from Poland shot me looks that would kill a battallion of SAS...theyre still not speaking to me.....some people, I dunno...:
  9. Roberto Carlos was faster, but its fair to say not with the ball at his feet. Roberto Carlos could break 11 seconds for 100m.
  10. Got to laugh at some of the coverage Bale is getting: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2276594/Tottenhams-Gareth-Bale-tough-defend.html#axzz2Ka1cSi86 Is he doing anymore than Bellamy did for us on one or two occasions?...i.e. drag the whole team through when we were having an iffy spell? The season we finished 3rd under Sir Bob springs to mind. Am not trying to compare them as players, but if you compare their contributions then Bellamy had much the same effect as Bale is having now i.e propelling a competant premier league side into potentailly the champions league.
  11. I take great interest in local media form all over the UK ... or maybe I just use what we in the trade call a "blog aggregator": http://www.newsnow.co.uk/h/Sport/Football/Premier+League/Newcastle+United
  12. No fair one, it just seemed the flight would be a lot to put him through. Put like that it makes sense to a large extent.
  13. Breaking news, Londonderry Sentinel!!!: Shane Ferguson. Published on Sunday 10 February 2013 11:04 EGLINTON man Shane Ferguson could be on his way out of Newcastle United. However Northern Ireland and local Toon fans fear not, as the talented winger is likely to just be going out on loan until the end of the season, with a host of Championship clubs likely to be interested. The 21-year-old feels with the recent signings of Moussa Sissoko, Yoan Gouffran and Mathieu Debuchy to name but a few, his chances of first team action may be limited over the coming months. “Since the new lads came to the club, I knew my opportunities were going to be limited for a while and I have spoken to the manager about going out on loan,” stated Ferguson. “I’m happy enough to have played quite a few Premier League and Europa League games this season which is all a learning curve but I need to play regularly. “Alan Pardew has been terrific and talks to me quite a lot and we have both agreed going out and gaining first-team experience on a regular basis would be a good thing for me and my career. “I signed a five-year deal with Newcastle at the start of last season and the loan move is just about experience; the manager has told me my future is very much with Newcastle and that is good to hear. “To be honest, I am looking forward to going out on loan. If you look at players like David Beckham and Paul Scholes when they were coming through at Manchester United all those years ago, they knew it would help their development so I would never be so arrogant to think it wouldn’t improve me, playing down the leagues. “I haven’t spoken to anyone yet as the loan window doesn’t open until after the international break but hopefully I can get a club sorted out quickly.” With boss Alan Pardew signing a host of French players during the recent transfer window, the ex-Maiden City Academy starlet feels the St James’ Park squad can only get stronger because of the new additions. “Our dressing room is a bit like being back at school at the minute with all the French players the club have managed to attract,” he joked. “I was taught French in High School but to be honest I didn’t really have a clue what was going on. “I know a lot of the players do try to pick up a new language and play the lessons in the car on the way to and back from training but I don’t really think I am cut out for that. “Even though I can’t speak their language I don’t think it particularly matters as the football does the talking when it matters. “Some people have questioned us bringing in so many players but it was clear to see we needed a bigger squad and the fact that so many of the lads are French means it will probably help them settle in a lot quicker, too, which can only be good for the club.”
  14. Not trying to be smart but why couldn't he get the same treatment in the UK?.....doubt if the 9 hour flight was a bundle of laughs for him...sounds like his err "mates" may be getting the treatment in the US gratis: Irani said: "I had a chat with Chris Evans and he just asked how we could help him. We knew we just had to get him on this flight, out to the [treatment centre] in Phoenix, we just had to get him on the plane. I called British Airways and explained the situation, that we had to get him out to Phoenix to get him some help. He needs it, and if not, who knows what's going to happen?"
  15. The only club who can afford Bale at the money Spurs fans are bandying about is man citeh. I think the deal for him to go Real Madrid is probably done in principle, just the price needs sorting. Can't see him going for more than 25 million tbh. Thought we were unlucky not to get a point yesterday, at the same time its fair to say Spurs were the better side, they worked Krul a bit more than we worked Loris (?)
  16. Seen him for the Bosch, looked a very good player.Am en route to WHL and a Spurs fan on the train says in the 8th minute there's going to be a sing song in support of Gazza....nice sentiment, but he's not quite deed yet..
  17. You've only won 2 out of the last 5 at home though...and that's with Bale and Lennon being in very good nick too...a draw would be a cracking result for us all the same.
  18. I'll take that as you being unable to defend the uncomfortable truth, as per usual....its like you wanting rid of Pardew all over again and not having the first clue what comes next...
  19. Tell us why we're borrowing more to keep the country going again CT?...must have missed your explanation earlier...no copy/paste jobs neither, I want it straight from the horses mouth as it were....
  20. The differences on what should decide the election are fuckin huge at the moment, possibly bigger than at any time since Thatcher shuffled off. Labour knew that the best way out of the recession was a Keynesian route where huge amounts of public money should be spent in order to support the economy, which before they lost power was producing a hugely more significant recovery than anything the Tories have achieved since, For me Brown and Darling had it going in the right direction. All the Tories had to offer was their own ideologically driven mantra; "cut the debt and go fuck yourself if you don't like it or cant survive it". This has the economy flatlining at best and Gideon is having to borrow even more money to prop things up, the diametric opposite of what he set out to achieve. Thing is, elections are decided on the personality on the person wanting to be PM. At this rate no one will bother to vote for either party such are the complete fuckin non entities leading both of them.
  21. Don't think anyone is saying that, its more a bullshit PR stunt with a tame local media. Put Lambchop in a room with HF and all his graphs and pie charts and he'd have a fuckin coronary.
  22. What I stated remains the case, this is exactly what I mean. If the right offer comes in we'll sell. That's how we finance the likes of January's spending. Nowt wrong with it, and if a couple of players do leave for big money and are replaced with players of the calibre we've seen in the last couple of years there won't be too many complaints. The only thing about this is wages. If the money coming in for players is also used to be able to increase the wages on offer, if we're canny we can attract an even better quality of player. No real way of knowing what the wage ceiling is atm, but its probably fair to say that we punched above our weight last season on wages paid to performance ratio. 5th was phenomenal, helped by some very sharp scouting and transfer fees paid....also knowing what is in a player's contract helps.
