  1. Theres fuck all cool about a John Barnes rap mate, and thats not changed in 23 years Try singing "express yourself, its one on one" over and over again after 8 pints though, you'll soon be in the spirit Probably personal for me, it was the first summer I'd been away from home, lots of good memories.
  2. http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2013/sep/09/obama-rogue-state-tramples-every-law In 1997 the US agreed to decommission the 31,000 tonnes of sarin, VX, mustard gas and other agents it possessed within 10 years. In 2007 it requested the maximum extension of the deadline permitted by the Chemical Weapons Convention – five years. Again it failed to keep its promise, and in 2012 it claimed they would be gone by 2021. Russia yesterday urged Syria to place its chemical weapons under international control. Perhaps it should press the US to do the same
  3. Is essembee just (a) Wolfy in sheeps clothing as it were? Did he appear just as the wolf disappeared?....
  4. Three Lions was shite in comparison. But by 1996 we had sky tv to over hype football in general. Football and its supporters we seen as pariahs at the start of June 1990. By the end of July football was fashionable, mostly on the back of the football the team played but World in Motion undoubtedly played a part too. A golden summer
  5. Could it equally be said that Wongas profits are going through the roof because a. theyre attracting more customers due to their frequent adverts on national tv and b. those people are now on the debt treadmill, meaning they'll be in hoc to wonga until they die or are declared bankrupt? More customers=more folk into huge spiralling interest payments. Forever. Nice work if you can get it. At least you seem to understand some people are blameless and get into trouble through no fault of their own. Ant on the other hand seems to have a sideline writing leader columns for the Daily Mail.
  6. Posted with all the empathy and understanding of someone whos never faced the choice between a loan shark and putting food on the kids plates. There are millions of foolish people out there who don't deserve our sympathy, you're right. But there are many others who are truly hard up. Wonga doesn't differentiate between the two. That's the point.
  7. http://www.theguardian.com/business/2012/mar/01/wonga-real-cost-payday-loan According to this, it's usually those with nowhere else to turn that use them. They may not use a baseball bat to collect their debts but the principle is the same; once you're tied into their system you're likely to be theirs forever. Credit unions would appear to be a better option, but am not sure if even they'd lend to those on benefits or if they'd say they were a better option than a student loan @ 1.5% after your graduation and are earning in excess of 22k? a year.
  8. The lad who sits at the next desk to me says the lad on the far right is Jeff Wrightson. They played together for Wallsend BC.
  9. But you put it very simply in the first post in this thread; todays fans moan more than those of yesteryear. You certainly hadnt mentioned the gentrification of the fanbase as a possible reason until Stevie put the idea into your head.
  10. Try this CT... http://spender.giftsuperstore.net/i/269770/spender-the-complete-series-on-dvd.htm Theres an episode of Spender filmed at SJP with footage of lads on the pitch with banners etc if you want to see what it actually looked like..
  11. Seeing as we're only 3 games into the season isnt it a bit difficult to answer that question? We can only base it on last seasons evidence, meaning the answer is no, in as much as the team suffered lots of injuries, the younger players weren't good enough when given a chance, there was little time to spend proper time drilling the first team due to the demands of Europe well into April etc etc... All you can say for certain is we've got a talented squad on paper.
  12. Ask how they felt when Randy Lerner pulled the plug on putting millions into the club, and basically let it fend for itself. And if they think Paul Lambert fits that system well or not.
  13. Steve Harper XI squad: Steve Harper, Pavel Srnicek, Shay Given; John Beresford, Olivier Bernard, Nikos Dabizas, Brian Kilcline, Darren Peacock, Alessandro Pistone, Steve Watson; Joey Barton, Lee Bowyer, Nicky Butt, Lee Clark, Kieron Dyer, Ruel Fox, Keith Gillespie, David Ginola, Rob Lee, Liam O’Brien, Scott Sellars, Nolberto Solano, Steve Stone, Alan Thompson; Faustino Asprilla, Peter Beardsley, Andrew Cole, Les Ferdinand, Paul Kitson, Alan Shearer. http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/football/10657631._/
  14. Do easy jet still do Belfast to Newcastle? Sometimes you've just got to tell work to shove it up their arse. Or at least throw a sickie.I spent my entire twenties and most of my thirties doing exactly that where football was concerned. I wasn't going to go, but now Barney has pointed out Boban's playing am hatching a little plot... You know you want to,single lad such as yourself etc etc....
  15. He's a sophisticated continental man of the world CT. He knows that fine dining such as what you practice is referred to "en Francais" as a matter of course. Capice?
  16. Can you give us your favourite pasta sauce recipe, so CT can give it a go and post pictures of the resulting mess on here, accompanied by 2 rounds of mothers pride avec le flora magerine?
  17. Do you think football is better to watch for the supporter today , rather than when man marking of strikers was common? Also do you think teams could still employ a libero/sweeper as was common in the 70s & 80s?
  18. Boban started the Balkan wars of the 1990s with this kick on a Croatian police officer...he was also fuckin mustard at the old footy lark as well... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NnrLuAzUPMs
  19. I know what you're getting at, but I dont think thats the case. Greater Barcelona has got 3.2milion people for a kick off. What used to be Tyne and Wear is 1.1mill. We may be the biggest City in the north, but we're not a fabled capital of a ancient independant nation with its own language either. All this counts.
  20. Thats maybe why he's still in charge If he can get 200mill he's probably here for another season after this, unless hes very fortunate.
  21. Dont think anyone would pay 250 mill for NUFC. Liverpool went for 300 mill though so is 200mill out of the question?...
