It was fraternal feuding that induced the admittedly expationist (he had a thing about Cnut and his north sea empire) Harald Hadrada to sail up the Ouse to Stamford Bridge for a punch up with Harold in September 1066. The English king's brother Tostig sailed with the Norwegian fleet after he was banished due to an earlier attempt to grab the English throne. Agree that there's not a lot if any evidence to suggest any collusion between the Normans and their distant cousins. The British Isles had successive waves of invasion/conquest (or immigration as we now call it ) throughout pre history and right through what we call the dark ages, but that also goes for pretty much the whole planet tbh

Sooooo.....what are the chances of signing cheeky Charlie Austin now then?....about as much chance as CT being in general agreement with someone else, on any given subject, ever?

Of course your getting a payrise to cover losing your tax credits Davey, George said he was going to encourage your employer to take up the slack and CT thinks all this is "good". What more proof do you need that this is all going to be fine and theres nothing to worry about for goodness sakes?

My plan is to sleep late and go for huge tapas and Rioja lunches then a long siesta before hitting the bars in the old town about 11pmish

We've booked Alicante now, it was the cheapest and we just want to chill for a week. We almost went to Granada and Cordoba last December for a winter break to see the Alhambra and all that stuff. Tbf Alicante has got a Moorish castle and the Cathedral used to be a mosque so its not without its historical stuff

Palace agree a fee with PSG for Cabaye...12mill for a 29 year old + 12 million for 30 year old Ashley Williams from Swansea= the reason Alan Pardew left Newcastle United... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3152737/Yohan-Cabaye-close-Crystal-Palace-club-agree-fee-Paris-Saint-Germain.html?ITO=1490&ns_mchan tbf these are the sort of deals that can sink clubs for a decade or so should the worst happen....and lets face it, in August there is usually a dozen clubs who could conceivably go down regardless of how much they've spent. Norwich spring to mind the last time they went down, spent a fortune on players that summer....Ricky Van Wolfswinkel Am a tiny bit surprised theyre back so soon, but Alex Neil had a huge impact on arrival and the parachute payments obviously help.

The current Mrs PL changed job 3 weeks ago which put paid to our planned 2 week early July shenanigans. We hadn't booked anything but we were looking forward to a cheapish pre school holiday 10 day piss up somewhere semi classy, Amalfi Coast was looking favourite. Her new employers have turned round and (generously?) said she can have the last week in July off paid so we've spent the last week looking at what we can get....best value flying locally we could find was a week in Alicante....anybody been lately?...it actually looks ok, or better than what I imagined it would be i.e. full English available in every other shop doorway, in betweenall the straw donkey peddlars etc etc...it appears to be quite cultural, with quite a few museums and a fairly lively old town etc etc..

Agree with this... journo been sold down the river by his bosses iyam....spent last season criticising the club for their relationship with the sun only to be put into the same situation himself. Possibly given the Austin "exclusive" to keep.him onside...??...

I'm already struggling a bit physically, adult onset asthma for my 40th birthday, I mean what the fuck is that all about?? I'm signing up to do the GCSE maths this winter, the local council runs a free evening course so I might as well. My old next door neighbour has just got her masters in mechanical architectural design and she works for a world renowned mech/elec. consultants and she's going to pass my details on to one of her colleagues so I'll see what they think my prospects are. Good luck with the teaching, hope it works out well

What are your policies?

I've been thinking about this too. I want to get out of getting my hands dirty for a living and go into elect/mech design. I have the advantage of no kids and have just sold my old flat too so there's a bit of cash to support me going into full time education for a couple of years, but I'm 46 in October and there's absolutely no guarantees about future employment prospects. I'd have to do an access to higher education course and/or maths GCSE before I attempted the HNC that I'd need to get into a half decent job. It does seem a bit daunting but I really don't want to be trawling around shipyards or building sites at 60+ like I've seen a lot of older lads do....one got let go the other day, 62 he was and still in a position where they could tell him " pack your tools, you're being finished up" with zero notice. Fuck that.

AFC Bournemouth on the local evening news down here, interview with the excellent Eddie Howe, enthusing about the 6 (SIX!!) new players he's signed before the 1st July EDIT: another one for the detention centre....

I'm working on flats in new money wankerville Sandbanks at the moment and the poon is out of the top draw... some young shaver wandered past with his bikini clad lass this morning....they looked like Yull Brynner and Telly Sevalas fighting in a sack...I think we passed on a life lesson to the lad tbh...don't wander past a building site with your semi naked hot-as-fuck bird
-
I thought it was a poorly taken selfie tbh....

I remember seeing the old boy on that's life at the time.... all these extraordinary people seem very unassuming characters, we could do with a few more like him at the top nowadays.
