  1. That's the fuckin end like Women....they're all spiders by nature, just waiting for you when you're at your weakest then they strike...
  2. Not as strange as villa apparently offering 6.2mill for Willo
  3. I think I joined not long before he stopped posting....from what folk have said he was a fuckin space cadet with knobs on?
  4. That sounds dreadful mate are there any other side effects? How's your barnet fairing?
  5. Right who's in? http://themagpiebrand.co.uk/
  6. Shearer always liked someone to do his donkey work throughout the majority of his career...Dowie at Southampton, Sutton at Blackburn, Sheringham for England, Ferdinand and Ferguson here before he got his last major injury and was about as mobile as a tank, which is when he used the pace of Dyer and Bellamy to create space for him to exploit. Obviously there was the likes of Nobby and Speed to create chances too. I dont see any reason why Mitrovic and Austin wouldn't work in the modern game, indeed what struck me about Austin at Loftus Road in May was his workrate and unselfishness in a team that was already down. Add to that the 18 goals he weighed in with in a side who weren't really creating much then for me theres no offensive reason why it can't work. Thing is we could end up swamped in midfield v sides who are only playing one up top, and that's probably every other team in the league. Thats why I think it's De jong & one striker, and macca is on record describing Siem as the best player in the league (along with Christian Erickson) when Steve was manager of Twente and Dr Hong played against his side regularly.
  7. Agree but am thinking plan A may be 1 striker with De jong in behind. That's going to be tricky assuming Austin comes in.
  8. If and when mbemba appears he's one of the first names on the team sheet. Hes Williamsons replacement 3 years too late though. That's where only going for cheapies, bosmans and those with a good get out clause gets you. Newcastle's transfer policy in the last 5 years has rarely addressed the real needs of the squad, its addressed what is good for the clubs bank balance.
  9. Fuck off man....they've been rubbish since the day after I saw them in Orange County CA in 94
  10. We're never, ever going to have a squad fit for purpose as long as Mike Ashley is at the helm so I can't understand why anyone is beating themselves up worrying about it. That's not to say am pessimistic about next season in any way, but as HF pointed out we spent 37mill last summer and didn't improve in any way shape or form. Try to enjoy the summer Fish.....winter is coming.....
  11. Absoloutely mate its all ancient history and McGee's book, for all it being a cracking yarn, is just him burnishing his reputation and self imposed "mythical" status. Don't know if you lived across here in those days but a lot of good bands played a dreadful Friday night tv program "the word" with brilliant trippy visiuals...
  12. The period you're describing is after the sale to Sony though, of course it was going to get corporate and faceless. Have you read McGee's book?... The "official" line is MBV took more than half a decade to record "Loveless" nearly bankrupting the label, making a corporate sale more than likely. Ride fizzled out, Swervedriver didn't have any real "fizz" iyam..after the money troubles the likes of Slowdive and Swervedriver were always going to be under threat..
  13. I'd not heard that but there was a major cull at some point including 18 wheeler and Travis I think, there were others too. Am not sure its accurate to claim that Britpop killed Creation, for me it was just another step in early 90s process in which the media changed the alternative into the mainstream.
  14. pop music popular, who'd have thunk it?? McGee had in 1992 3 of the biggest selling albums in the uk and still couldn't make any money. He got sober and sold it to Sony iirc. Great auteur (for want of a better word) but a shite businessman.
  15. Harry Redknapp was getting Bournemouth to the upper reaches of divi 2 at the same age as Sherwood is now on a miniscule budget after a very, very average playing career. Sherwood captained Blackburn to the prem league title and has been given a leg up due to the profile that gave his career. Am not entirely comfortable defending him but as a coach Redknapp had huge ability iyam. He spoilt himself once he personally got and was able to spend huge amounts of other peoples money.

  17. Looks like more paper talk, sounds like Van Gaal has told him to sling his hook like...he's not much of an upgrade on Willo tbh, better footballer but falls to bits when a striker gets physical with him. Attempting to intimidate the likes of Cisse by gobbing on him is about his level..
  18. As far as centre backs go we're being linked to James Chester again this morning by Shoot! website, which the last time I heard of it was printed on paper and was doing spotlights on various late 70s footballers, who almost always stated that their favourite food was steak and chips and their favourite singer was Rod Stewart http://www.shoot.co.uk/category/news/palace-join-leicester-newcastle-and-villa-in-race-for-defender/ Oh and Johnny Evans too, Pappis is looking forward to renewing aquaintances am sure
  19. Wonder if this idiot has ever posted on here?.... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/11758845/Ex-Newcastle-College-student-plots-Anders-Breivik-style-massacre-at-campus.html
  20. Chicken sheesh for his tea in that bag by the looks of it...
  21. Good point Owen... http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/jul/22/left-new-labour-blair-brown-child-poverty?CMP=fb_gu
  22. Ban him for acting like a 13 year old in the first day of his school holidays....if CT had started this thread he'd had been hung drawn and quartered by now
