  1. If Gamez's language skills are up to scratch I think I'd have him tbh... Rafa signed him, he owes nobody else anything, most experienced player at the club..
  2. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=eT7P7JOBSkM#action=share Shrimpers defending their nets...lots of holes?... Ok, I'll get me coat...
  3. Dwight Gayle is probably as good a signing as we can make given our circumstances. I think I can see the pattern of your wummery for the coming season, "try to discredit stuff Rafa does, that'll drive them fuckin mad" What group they come from is irrelevent to my point, for most normal people it's difficult to get excited about someone and indeed a subject they know fuck all about. Do you want a 23 year old who has been on loan to four or five different clubs, in and around the lower reaches of the premier league/bog standard championship sides, that he's quite plainly not good enough for, to provide excitement for you? That's basically what you're suggesting.
  4. I think we've been here before....."brilliant signinging, credit to Mike.....is he any good??!" Even if we signed the best young player from the u21 squad of a perennial champions league club how the fuck would you get genuinely excited about him when you're, by your own admission, the least qualified person on here to make any comment whatsoever about players from other clubs?
  5. It won the Booker, but I think at least one judge resigned from the committee because they thought it was "shit"
  6. He's too busy playing with his (pin)balls to read a book
  7. this review of Trainspotting from 93 mentions Kelman... https://www.theguardian.com/theobserver/1993/aug/15/featuresreview.review
  8. Think we're off to war again kids.... https://theintercept.com/2016/07/25/robert-kagan-and-other-neocons-back-hillary-clinton/
  9. If you're on about McIlvaney or Rankin then you've sort of got a point. But they wrote/write pretty formulaic pot boilers compared with Trainspottimg iyam.
  10. anyone with half a brain loves it.....not sure who on this board that won't apply to
  11. Because it was written in several different narrative styles, and they were all brilliant, as were the myriad plot lines and the incrediblly visceral but strangely recognisable and familiar characters. I'm certainly nowhere near as well read as some on here but for me it's the just about the best book I've ever read. I was 23 ish when It came out and I'd definetly hadn't read anything that blew me away in the same way up till then, and I've still not read anything since that had me nervous about turning the next page....am not sure if this style if novel had been attempted very much if at all at the time it was published in 1993, am pretty sure it hadn't, and that for me is why I'd agree with Alex.
  12. As I tried to allude to before, Bamford didn't get Boro promoted and I saw him look lost v AFCB in a crunch promotion game last April, he and Boro couldn't handle a pre promotion Bournemouth. So someone looking at things objectively would say he did ok but couldn't cut it when it counted. He's since played 6 prem lge games for Palace and 7 for Norwich. He's still Chelsea's player though. So, who has his total of 5 different loan deals to various championship and mediocre premier league sides benefitted most? The clubs? Chelsea? The player himself? Iyam loans are pretty much a waste of time for players and clubs. Rafa might bring one or two in but it doesn't look like it at the moment. Seeing as he's actually signing young decent talent on real contracts perhaps means he's thinking along the same lines. I certainly hope so.
  13. Was that the one with a TV presenter character with a strong regional accent who drove a around in a hearse, committing necrophilia in various UK morgues?....it might have been one of 3 short stories?.. What you're on about was called Skagboys
  14. I think short term loans would've been the way we'd have gone this season without Rafa, but he's building all aspects of the club for the future. Loans only really benefit the loaning clubs due to getting wages off the balance sheet. Loans from major premier league clubs nowadays almost certainly don't benefit the player or his host club. Definetly not both at the same time.
  15. Am not really disputing that there's some dead wood in the squad but for a change we've got a coach who can both improve players and the way the team plays as a whole. Let's see how some of them go at this level...
  16. February I think they're saying. Diane's character plays a pretty major role in the sequel novel Porno which John Hodge has vaguely based the new films screenplay on and Kelly McDonald was apparently "in talks"...Kevin McKidd isn't in it as his character Tommy died in the first one. http://www.theguardian.com/film/video/2016/jul/25/trainspotting-2-exclusive-teaser-trailer-for-danny-boyles-sequel-video?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
  17. You're (almost unbeleivably ) forgetting Emanuell "the rivet" Rivière, is he still crocked?....
  18. CT defending Boris for talking shit about something he knew fuck all about?....what's the old saying?.... "Birds of a feather"...
  19. Is he just about to bang a needle in his arm?
  20. Thing is if we can sus it why do they think professional recruitment departments will suddenly shit themselves?
  21. Blatantly placed to flush out a serious bid from Everton or Juve?...
