  1. I think the banks are in a large way to blame. They lent money for new goverment contracts expecting the taxpayer to back them up. Not fuckin this time, although a lot of the vital services Carillion (used to be Tarmac as recently as the 90s) will be picked up by us e.g. hospital maintenance, school dinners etc. I happen to work for one of their major competitors on an nhs contract and it could end up being good for our lot...
  2. Yeah, shit way to lose a final but spurs had put us out that year (If my memory serves me well :D ) Hillsborough type crush was only narrowly averted at WHL that day?
  3. 31 year ago man! At least I didn't say he scored one of the all time great cup final goals with a diving header in that final blah blah blah...
  4. Only 5 caps. Christ knows how many the likes of Mark Hateley got. Played like Drogbas older, quieter, harder brother. Tony Adams talks about marking him during TAs early days at arsenal, just a phenomenal athlete he says (CR and Olympic sprinter John Regis were cousins) with the touch and pace of a very good inside forward. Cup winner at the last truly romantic cup final in 87 with Coventry, pretty sure he scored that day. Saw him rip us to bits in Willie McFaul's last game as our manager. Rip Cyrille.
  5. I understand knee jerk doom and gloom after a poor result but we're really no better and no worse than the rest of the shit surrounding us. Ashley in all likelyhood knows this too and is maybe gambling on Rafa being the difference, with the kicker of him being able to say " fackin champions league winner should've kept us up!", should the worst come to the worst. As it stands, it's a toss up whether we go down or not. Fairly plain if you ask me Rafas got to deal with the deck he's got and with PCP playing hardball on the price for the club then I can't see anything changing till we know which division we'll be playing in next season. Have a pleasant Monday everyone
  6. Didn't Southampton put 6 past Manu the week after we beat them 5 nil? ....
  7. Theres literally been nothing that gives me any sense that we''re even prepared to do that this month Strange thing is am not that worried. A relegation this season hurts Ashley a lot more than it hurts the supporters. There's a buyer out there with a fair offer on the table. That offer disappears if we're relegated. Another gamble, another possible loss of millions of pounds, for MASH Holdimgs Ltd and Newcastle United FC. Not me. The supporters don't get to "enjoy" the visits of Manu, Chelsea, Arsenal etc. Big fuckin deal. The rest, as we're proving this season, isn't much different to the top of the championship. Loss of prestige? and this is basically the key to all of the above, for the third time in a decade am becoming immune to it.
  8. Nah, he and us are being strung along by Charnley. As I said in the week "Rafa doesn't know his transfer budget " is code for "it doesn't exist". If someone was knowingly taking the piss out if me that much at work I'd jack. Same as when KK left. Rafa appears to be a bit more tolerant and less emotional than Keegan but he's about to be shafted in precisely the same way.
  9. I don't know why you're all torturing yourselves If we bring anyone in, treat it as a mildly diverting surprise. But I personally don't expect anything to happen. If that is the case then whether Rafa can be arsed to try to keep us up after January 31st am not too sure...
  10. Barney Ronay... In the end a lot of this boils down to what you think sport is for. If it is to be a distantly consumed third person spectacle, a series of coloured blobs moving on a screen, just one part of the digital leisure experience, than perhaps it does make sense to analyse endlessly the precise, elusive mechanics of why a man has fallen over https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2018/jan/13/var-football-referees-emotional-game?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
  11. Aye, and a player from a team threatened with relegation, a situation neither of them have experience of. Fuckin gobshites
  12. I'm of the opinion that our captain is one of the few in the modern game who can be seen both anecdotally and literally leading his teammates partly because of the abysmal example set by Collocini when he joined the club http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-5260199/amp/Jamaal-Lascelles-Newcastles-tactics-against-Man-City.html?__twitter_impression=true
  13. I've been thinking that too To save any confusion @trooper & @Andrew just start from what we can logically deduce from what we know.. 1. "Rafa doesn't know his transfer budget" = THERE IS NO FUCKIN TRANSFER BUDGET 2. "Rafa has to sell to buy" = SEE 1 ABOVE Hope this helps x
  14. Would anyone want big screen replays of incidents that are referred to VAR? fans actually at the the ground not happy last night...is it just because they're a bunch of jumped up cockney twats or do they have a point?....
  15. Denied.... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2018/01/09/peter-beardsley-suspended-newcastle-despite-denial-racism-bullying/amp/?__twitter_impression=true
  16. Goal line tech was brought on the principle that its either a goal or it's not. Whether a challenge is a pen or not is an opinion. Look at Lallana the other night v Everton, the replays were clear on one thing, that what they showed was inconclusive. I thought it wasn't, but others thought it was. All technology proved that it wasn't clear cut and you just had to make up your own mind. The key opinion in this therefore isn't the refs, it's his colleague looking at the video. It's him who stops play for the review, not the ref on the pitch as you say. But apparently a lot of players have been appealing to the on pitch ref, this happened between Lazio and Fioretina before new year, the ball hit a Lazio players hand in the penalty area and the on pitch ref went to video instead of his colleague on the touchline. Perhaps it's all just teething trouble but ffs football is the world game and it became that long before and without the need for world wide media driving bullshit like this just because they can. Ive frankly had enough of self important pundits and the witless morons who parrot what they say. This will just make it all fully worse.
  17. Aye http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-5246317/England-excited-VAR-Germany-sick-it.html
  18. There was a thread on here years ago (if anyone with search skills better than mine wants to give it a go feel free, i couldnt find it) awhere my complete pedant/ludite side annihilated anyone who was suggesting that goal line technology wouldn't lead to technology being used for matters of opinion and not just fact on the field of play. Well here we fuckin are folks... https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/var-explained-how-the-video-assistant-referee-system-will-be-used-in-brighton-vs-crystal-palace-fa-a3734186.html
