Generic small time football blather thread FOREVER

Hmmm....someone feels threatened -
I was 12 going on 13, think the destroyers offshore started the whole thing off by shelling the runway at Port Stanley airport on the Saturday night after match of the day... BBC cut to a news flash straight away and we sat there watching the reports come in. Was still up when dad came in from the pub...he cheerily informed me " if it goes on as long as WW2 you'll be sent there to fight" , I think I protested that I was too young but he said "only 5 years till you're 18!" which gave me something to think about...his father was conscripted for WW1, so was his maternal grandfather as an ex regular soldier in the Boer war, and he'd been made to do National Service for two year in the jungles of Malaya... I think he genuinely thought I'd be next

Hadn't you had 9 pints of LCL in the Beehive before you did that though? 🤔 -
Theres a whole lot more to Joyce Mckinney.... looks like I'd only be 7/8 when this was going on but I think the thing round our way was the young mums in the street were bring visited by Mormon missionaries during the day whilst the dads were all at work I distinctly remember them being at our street's silver jubilee party... I think the interest in this case came from there, mum was reading about it in the papers and my older sister read alloud the lurid details to me and my brother...its strange the things you remember.. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manacled_Mormon_case?wprov=sfla1

Watching it made me think about something that I think was doing the rounds in the papers at the time….and by that I mean “the usual suspects”…. I think it was being claimed that the Welsh Guards were sat on Galahad because they weren’t fit enough to yomp across East Falkland like the Marines & Paras did…and l think that point was being slightly alluded to in the programme last night until the senior officers explained precisely what the circumstances were. I remember my father who was ex army talking about it, he said that he wasn’t sure if that was correct, but I could tell he thought it was possibly true…someone no doubt fed the story to the press to cover someone’s arse and the Regiment’s name was blackened forever….”The first casualty of war is the truth”….
-
I saw that….thought he might be Yemeni from Shields?… txtd my mate this morning asking him if he’d seen it, he joined the Marines at 17 straight from school in 1981, did his training & passed out at the beginning of 1982, just in time to turn 18 on Canberra en route to the South Atlantic… this is what he said in reply

Middle of nowhere…who’s your German side?…

“Guten tag Frau Battenburg!”

Yeah…it’s difficult to see the circumstances where he’d end up in the dock in The Hague….maybe because of the gigantic fuckin pigs ear he’s made of the invasion he’s just feeling intensely vulnerable and paranoid?

Does Putin just want to get rid of anyone who knows where all the bodies are buried? …bit like Jimmy Conway after Lufthansa? 🤔

Newcastle v Leicester tickets 17 April 2022
PaddockLad replied to Petedajag's topic in Newcastle Forum
It's folk with 12 loyalty points fuming that they now struggle to get away tickets due to the perception that those with 100s of loyalty points just apply for every away ticket and just flog them every week, preventing those with lower points values building their totals up....which tbf does happen. Its not mattered a fuck for at least 15 years....but obviously that's all changed now .. -

Yeah...put a spare away ticket on twitter at face value + postage and someone grassed me up to the club..banned for applying for away tickets for 3 games...the emails from the club beggar beleif. The title of the first missive was "ticket touting" ... I asked them to withdraw this, they declined... I came a lot closer to chucking it last month than I ever did under Ashley.. -

Trust me on this, passing any tickets on to others is against the club's T & Cs and they are clamping down heavily on miscreants. Other supporters are grassing up those who are selling their away tickets on twitter at face value. You need to befriend a season ticket holder, they are entitled to apply for two extra tickets for every home game, but if they're being advertised on twitter/Facebook& the club become aware of it the STH will have the tickets withdrawn and they will be sanctioned....bit like being an Oligarch -
There are 20 semi regular posters on here I'd rather hear from than Morgan on any subject tbh

Yeah thats all fair..I think maybe the other side of that coin is how many people were watching some comic take the piss out of his missus? 100 people at a comedy club is bad.....umpteem million is another universe..
-
Show me a comedian who can control the reaction of their audience? Especially if the joke is on one of the audience members? You're right, but surely any comic ultimately runs this risk?..

Tories. A case study...

Taking the piss out of Gwyneth Paltrow's daft fuckin magazine is one thing, having a dig at a woman suffering from a medical condition is another. Violence is a logical conclusion of that. Its not quite Trump and thr disabled journo but its wandering down that lane...
-
There’s a lot of men of all ages who would lose it if their missus was insulted in front of a sizeable amount of the world’s population tbf Not saying it’s right but Rock is lucky, Smuth is a fuckin big lad. Comics are perfectly at liberty to say what the fuck they like, but if you want to wind people up and then they get wound up am not sure what they expect and Rock isn’t pressing charges . It’s life, get on with it. Doubt if any of them deep down give a shiny shit about Ukraine either.
