It’s from 92. I didn’t realise it was Loughborough (assumed it was Nottingham where Al is from). He’d have likely been kicking about the place when I was at uni there. I’ll probably watch it properly tonight. Incidentally the early 70s doc they mention on an episode of Chart Music (All Dressed Up And Going Nowhere) is available on YouTube. That’s the one about youth culture in Newcastle and Skins v Rockers violence (featuring the Scotswood Aggro Boys, some narration from a young Mike Neville and a cameo from Frankie Vaughan - rhyming slang for ‘porn’ when I was younger  )

92 explains it. Can’t remember much at all from around then

The one way system makes it seem like there is no escape too iirc.

I’ve just driven round Yeovil’s one way system 3 times to find a carpark. This after:

    1. Dude in cafe couldn’t understand what I was saying, when I asked for milk he gave me sugar

    2. Dude in premises I’m attending this morning laughed in my face and said “WELL I DIDNT UNDERSTAND ANY OF THAT!” when I was explaining what I’m there to do, in front of his clients and colleagues

    3. Car play has stopped working, no audiobooks/podcasts

Hope you’re all having a better morning than me :cuppa:

I understand that the unintended consequences of the current PSR model means that the most profitable source of income is by selling your homegrown player. And I get that we're fishing in a very small pond. And I understand that we don't have European football to entice a player with.

But this is the bit I don't get; for people of that level, working on 2, 3, 8 potential deals shouldn't be beyond them. I know I have to have 3 workable solutions to present whenever I'm tasked with creating something. All 3 have to be good to go when the final decision is made, so I have to iron out all the particulars for each. I can do this and still dick about on here for most of the day.

Transfer business does not have to be restricted to the transfer window. They had months to sort out the Tosin deal, the Guehi deal, the Elanga deal and so on. The second Tosin signed for Chelsea, we should have seen if Palace were open to doing business around our price. If not, don't chase it, leave it on the back burner while you approach other targets like Thiaw or Samakin. If none of the right CBs are available at the right price at the beginning of the window then shift focus to another position while keeping communication open with the CBs' clubs. If we could have agreed a fee with Forest for Elanga, we'd need not have signed a 4th choice 'keeper for £20m. Also, Almiron would likely have been more keen to leave had we his replacement in already.

Then if Palace are more open to our price at the end of the window go back to them at that point.

Vlachdimos and Pliers aside, I think we've made some sensible signings; a few kids for the youth teams, a young striker who shows promise and can provide more depth up front, a utility Premier League defender, an experienced keeper for coaching and so on

And hey, at least we got rid of the two department stores; Fraser and Lewis.

    it's a 3/10 for me.

If you read Caulkins spiel from the Athletic it’s a variation on this. They could’ve been working on deals for months as you suggest but when the TD is appointed just as pre season started that would have left the recruitment team in limbo for some time until they received some concrete direction. Tosin joined Chelsea on 7 June so that left a month till Mitchell arrived when very likely not a lot happened. The vain approach for Friedman before the season ended would’ve stalled things too.  The point at which our window was doomed strongly appears to me was when Ashworth went on gardening leave. It wasn’t inevitable that it’d be a crock of shit at that point but with hindsight it can all be traced back to that point. Dealing with Parish at three different points in the window probably wasn’t a good idea either but again that’s probably down to lack of leadership/guidance.

It was a fuckin mess from start to finish.

  4. To get the pipes and cabling into that service riser they would’ve had to have drilled from the inside and shoved them through ready for Bonnnington/Fist there to swing round and connect so why didn’t they just go the whole hog and drill out an access hatch? :cuppa:

Why did Neville think Man U would finish in top four?

Because he’s not allowed to think for himself when he’s put on the spot like that lobe on tv. The honest answer is “fuck knows Brian, lets see his it goes”

Anyway, how good is Man Utd’s window looking now?? That question is for you, Mr Ashman😀

I actually looked at the podcast after listening to the clip, but those episodes are so fucking long. Do you need to be watching the episodes of TOTP along with them for it to make sense, or can you just listen without that?

I might not anyway like, just wondering.

    Chart Music pod isn’t a podcast, it’s a way of life 😆

I can listen easily in my van. I can do an episode in 2/3 days. I get some folk won’t have time for it. You being (am led to believe) an actual musician you might get a lot out of it if you can stick with it. It also has Taylor Parkes, who makes Frankie Boyle seem like a dandyish fop.., and it obviously helps if TOTP was a central part of your week when you were a kid…

If you get upset about most people having shite taste in music, you’re going to get upset a lot. Although his assessment in the subtitle is pretty much spot on ;)

Simon Price is a good lad really, you’ll know him from CM pod. The article is bollocks . He claims to be more working class than the Gallaghers, despite having a dad who had a show on bbc radio Wales and a teacher for a mum. Then he described Burnage as “leafy” Someone on Twitter pointed out that this was about lack of media access to the Oasis at their peak. Price was house journo for the Manics at the time, he’s written a book about them etc.

    This is good on Oasis…
