  7. So you’re backing this claim of a mere “run” for Aston Villa with the same stats that told you that we’d beat them on Saturday? … not sure why you’ve left yourself to that admittedly cheap shot Dave but there you go Just a question, does comparing Watkins scoring streak with Miggy’s earlier this season have any relevance here? He stopped scoring and our results dropped off after the WC break, which correct me if I’m wrong is what you have suggested will happen to Villa once a team stop Watkins, or is that a completely different barrell of monkeys because “STATS” ?? I think medium to long term we’ll have more success than Villa but I think you can’t prove that by an applying stats that as Saturday shows prove the square root of fuck all. Some mentioned poor first half displays in our preceding two games before the game, it’s almost as if the stats only looked at one side of the equation though . Was there a set of stats that suggested we were going to play poorly for 90mins? If there was you had no interest in posting them on here . I get that stats can help you see things your eyes can’t (you were right about Everton’s early season form being an illusion 👍) but I think this is trickier to call. If Villa finish in a European spot that’s at least a good an achievement for their coach as Eddie Howe turning everything around for us last season, which will render their Xg & Xgc stats completely irrelevant. Villa are not without finiancial backing and Emery has improved the performance levels of the entire squad. What does that remind you of?.. am more than happy to be where we are but it just seems you’re ruling out Villa doing well because of trust in data that shows they’re over achieving. Isn’t that similar to us saying that NUFC are “ahead of schedule”? We’re ahead largely because Liverpool, Spurs and Chelsea have been comparatively fuckin rubbish this season. Xg doesn’t show that 👍
  8. You and Gemmill talk about this Villa “run” . How is it different to the good run of form we had after January last season, October /November this season and March/April this season? Strikes me that if a team is in a good run of form it will come to an end at some point regardless of who the club actually is, which appears to be the distinction you’re making here. Are you saying our good form at various points is built on rock solid foundations and any blips are just that and that Villa are just fuckin lucky? Or are you saying that we’re PiF’s Newcastle United and we’re just better than Villa in every single facet of the sport, except for actually playing the game of football itself going by the last set of available data ie last Saturday between 3 & 5 pm?
  9. Errr… as many have mentioned in the replies, he’s wearing a shirt with EMIRATES plastered all over it and watches Arsenal in a stadium of the same name
  10. Is there a stat for how unremittingly fuckin shit we were yesterday? How much more shitterer we performed for 90 minutes than any of the other shit Villa have beaten in the last couple of shitting months? We were a load of fuckin shit man, that’s the key stat . SHIT Thats the worse performance we’ve had under Howe since he became manager by some distance. I thought after an error strewn first half EH would get them in and sort things out like he did v Brentford and West Ham, give it 10, bring Wilson, Miggy and Longy on and we’d get more control in the middle, nick a goal and get away with a point from a below par performance . Instead Watkins ripped us a new arsehole. Not seen a performance as good as that for a long time. His movement was fuckin sensational. I don’t think Schar and Botman knew what to do against him . The space he got was criminal mind, no one could track him. Buendia and McGinn made our midfield look pedestrian and lethargic . When we did get on the ball we could barely string a couple of passes together but there were also the usual 3/4 decent chances missed by us . Trippier could’ve been subbed at half time for being the worst player on the pitch. I could go on but I won’t other than to say both goalies were good, especially Pope who prevented real embarrassment. My turn to drive yesterday and we were stood in the last row before the line of police and stewards who separated our section from the Villa fans in the rest of the stand. That, as you can imagine, was fuckin shit too
  11. odds on the 12 year old has a family nickname like “Scarborough” or “ Rhyl” or maybe even “Centreparcs 2001” (tbf @Christmas Tree I remember when you had your young ‘un, it seems like a couple of months ago )
  12. I think he’s Englands next captain too. If FFP allows it & our other main targets we should definitely try to get him into a room with Eddie Howe & the owners. That’s obviously dependent on champions league football . Shearer turned Man Utd down twice, first time was for newly minted Blackburn Rovers.. obviously it’s a vastly different football world now but there’s something about how he’s acted around the Newcastle players and staff this season…Tripper needs to get inside his head on England duty..
  13. Has someone posted this before?…very much an NUFC 2023 type signing if it’s true…
  14. Out of all the journos jumping on the “sportswashing” bandwagon since October 2021 the only one I’ve any time for is Delaney. He’ll actually answer a reasonable tweet, he appears to walk it like he talks it. There’s accusations of him having a different attitude when it comes to Qatar & the potential sale to Man Utd but I’ve not seen much evidence of that tbh. I think as long as journos in general keep focusing on the nature of the nation states now involved in European football then sportswashing won’t work…. I asked him in a tweet why Abramovich was left alone at Chelsea for 20 years and he said all major media companies were shit scared of ending up in the high court being sued by the cleverest most expensive lawyers in the country. This is a legitimate concern tbh https://amp.theguardian.com/world/2021/dec/22/roman-abramovich-settles-libel-claim-over-putin-biography Delaney’s piece on the symbolism of Man City’s win last night…
  15. Well yeah I can read that from what he’s said in his tweet but he’s using the phrase xG difference. Is that xG as you’ve been patiently explaining it or “expected goal difference” as in goals scored - goals conceded? 🤔
  16. So it’s “expected goal difference v actual goal difference” in the first graph, but not actual “xG (difference)” that’s been preoccupying certain posters on here recently, it’s almost actually good old fashioned GOAL DIFFERENCE itself, but just the “expected” sort? … have I got that right?…
  17. Ken Bruce is the go to mild mannered easy going mid morning broadcaster. Wykiki obviously doesn’t want his perusal of Ferret Fanciers Weekly spoiled by KB’s polished brogue whilst sipping a small skip sized cup of Yorkshire tea and nibbling on a Pontefract cake
