Moussa Sissoko signs for Spurs for like £30m or WatEVA
ChezGiven replied to Park Life's topic in Newcastle Forum
I just didn't have time to insert the obvious caveat that he hasn't had time to develop under Rafa, he was trying to save us from relegation not work on Sissoko's game. He is judged on his games under Pardew and McClaren and now will be looked at under Pochertino, I don't thin Rafa's coaching is that relevant.- 1745 replies

No I'm not. I said yesterday he played well under Rafa and others have contradicted that. They might be right, for some reason I had the impression that he played well in the few games Rafa had him. I do think he will have more good games at Spurs then he did for us but am not arsed really, I just hope you don't cry too hard when he does. He's not worth it.- 1745 replies

He will start well there, as he did for us. He will also work under the best coach he has played for too. Be interesting to see how long he gets into the team for, sure Pochettino will drop him as soon as he starts to disappear from games, fails to convert chances etc. I think he will get more assists in a better team.- 1745 replies

Not picking on you as I think everyone thinks this but it's a mad perspective for me to hope that we never play him again. I hope he goes now but if he doesn't, I hope he plays for us and does well. If he is there tomorrow, he is an asset we need to use to maximize his return to the club.- 1745 replies

Which is normally reputable but i wouldn't put it past them to be working with his agents to try and influence the Spurs deal.- 1745 replies

Not saying I want him to stay (although part of what i said was prompted by the thought that he might have to, as Ant alludes to), it's just the transfer fee the club has placed on him is too high. Yes he is irritating with his comments but he would be off by now if the club had put a realistic valuation on him. I'd be delighted with £20m and if people dislike him and don't rate him then their valuation would be lower than that. He's not worth £35m but would easily find a club for half of that. The situation has become a media driven irritation because the club intruding to get Pogba-influenced fortune for him. I can understand the club wanting to do that sure but if he does end up staying I would want him to play not rot in the reserves. Seems unlikely but there isn't long left until that becomes an issue Rafa might have to deal with.- 1745 replies

Expecting players to pledge undying allegiance to the club whenever asked about their futures is unrealistic and outdated. As for thinking he is better than he is, thats based on the assumption that he wasnt asked about RM or any other club, he actively came out with that. Is that true? If a reporter asks about RM, do you expect him to reply 'my considered opinion, along with those of the esteemed fans i play for, is that i am not good enough for RM and therefore reject your question'.- 1745 replies

I thought he just reacted to reported interest in the press from RM? Did he actively speak about RM in a void of context? If no, then its not laughable and he isnt a mad fuck.- 1745 replies

He doesnt want to play in the championship and has been priced out of the market by the club. I am perfectly happy for him to talk about which clubs he would like to go to and think its childish to wish ill of him for that given our circumstances. He played well under Rafa and its not his fault he had a few good games for France, he played well in the final but not all the way through and he was in a very good side playing out wide. Apart from being the one of the best players on the pitch in the final of a major tournament and not wanting to play Reading and Burton the season after, he has done nothing more than be an average player for us, neither worse or better than what we have and cost us pennies. Its not arrogant to want to move on in this circumstance, its perfectly rational. I wish him well and at this stage, he could even end up here after tomorrow. In which case, wanting him to 'rot in the reserves' is clinically suspicious.- 1745 replies

Just back from 3 weeks away with the kids, easier this year as the eldest looks after herself in the morning and the lad just wants his mam He is still a pain but the days of worrying about all the little details in case they get arsey is pretty much over. Going to enjoy this idyllic period until the moody teenager phase starts. Where we have a house in south west of country is a surfers beach, so looking after the kids playing in the sea is definitely a bit more stressful. Fortunately, the surf is so big / currents strong, that the areas where you can swim are tightly controlled and (unlike Camber sands), there are loads of life guards around.

I wasn't referring to Murphy earlier, more the overall approach of who to buy to get you up. The strategy can't be to buy players that are top premiership players as that obviously makes no sense whatsoever on any level. So what do you do? Only buy players that want to drop down a level for money? Buy players that are clearly going to be top players but aren't there yet? You need a mix of players in the recruitment mix. I would have thought the thinking would be somewhere along these lines. Firstly you need players who are good enough for the Orem, like Ritchie, Gayle, Mbemba, Elliot, Perez (you can argue who goes in which category). Then you need a whole plethora of players who are young and in development who look like they can develop into better players and move up a level. Those players are the hardest to identify so you need to have a few shots on target and fill the squad. You plan to keep only the ones that do well and buy up if you go up (Hayden etc). Then you need players who can do a job for you in the championship (we had plenty the last time). This third type of player you definitely don't plan to keep. The difference being this time we don't have players like Ranger, Lovenkrands etc to do a striking job already on the books and getting a Harewood type of player costs a bit more nowadays. So 'wtf' in general to Murphy but don't think it makes sense to view each transfer with the same perspective.
