Forever reliving that couple of months as a good player. -

Not sure what happened to him, his touch and awareness of players around him is terrible so with Leicester's pressing he constantly looks panicked. -

It was a pretty good defensive line, don't think it was intentionally a high line, though if they have many chances to play that through ball then at some point (or many points) we'll be badly caught out. The earlier one where they almost scored (when they turned to Arsenal in front of goal and forgot to shoot) they looked to me to be marginally offside as well. -

Really enjoying Joelinton's metamorphis from a striker who can't score to a winger who can't pass. -

Prepared for shite. Tactics with Steve: "Alreet lads, these lot are good, so we'll have to be better." -
Indeed, what a load of shite that was. Michael Owen was providing his expert opinion on it, suggesting that if Mane went down he would have been likely to get a penalty, but then he went on to say that the VAR was right not to award a penalty because it wasn't a clear and obvious error. Thanks Michael, makes perfect sense. Let's not forget that Darlow was on the ground after making the save and Mane trampled on him in trying to get to the ball.

Shola was the Geordie van Nistelrooj. Just watched all 72 Shola goals on youtube. Not hesitant to take a shot and with either foot.

It's true, Wilson is a step above the rest, but what I felt was much better from the rest was that we didn't often resort to slinging long balls in his general direction immediately after gaining possession. Liverpool are normally very good at closing down and pressuring the ball, not sure whether they took it a bit easy today or whether someone reminded our players that they're fucking professional footballers and can just turn away from the defender and look for another passing option or retain possession until that option presents itself. Shelvey, Sean Longstaff and Almiron not being out there helped in that respect. To hus credit when Almiron did come on he valued possession more than usual. Pretty sad that I'm saying that with sincerity when we had 26.8% possession. That's our reality. Honestly if they scored early on, which could easily have happened, I'm sure we'd have resorted to our panicked useless rush to get forward and have lost our defensive resolve and structure as a result.

It's true, and yet if we get tonked by Leicester next they won't correct themselves the other way. We've never received accurate punditry outside of the odd ex-player (that's no guarantee) so as much as it's frustrating we should be well used to it by now.
-
Well that was wholly unexpected. Our best performance in quite some time, defended as a team and what for me stood out as the biggest difference was individual decision making and application. We understandably lost a bit of that towards the end, but earlier on our players were making the right decision to hold on to the ball and look for better options. At the end of the day if you're in the premier league you're an elite level footballer and you should be able to get the simple stuff right. They did that tonight and that solidified them as a team and gave the defense something to work for throughout. Smart and decisive defending and some very good saves from Darlow. We badly needed a performance like this, it will be interesting to see how this contributes to our display against Leicester.

Wilson is such a good player.

Newcastle rated 20th and Liverpool 1st on the following: - Touches - Passes - Shots - Passes in opposition half - Passes into final third - Touches in opposition box Should be a close one, good luck Karl.

From NUFC.com If ever anyone needed any proof that Bruce is a fraud. It flat out doesn't matter if he's a good bloke, gets on with the lads, helps old ladies cross the road, writes cracking crime fiction or whatever else is alleged of him, he has a shit record because he's a shit manager whichbis why we're playing the worst football we've played in more than 25 years (I can't comment on prior). He's in the job because we have a shit owner who is a stubborn prick who refuses to learn from his mistakes. The mainstream media are completely and utterly out of touch with juat how bad things are because they aren't watching us week in and week out. At best they catch the odd game against darling opposition where we willlingly conform to our rightful role as fodder, then looking at the table thwy can smugly announce that Bruce is doing a good job with a tough crowd and the weigh of expectation up north. Except there is no tough crowd, just another ill informed misjudgement from pundits who couldn't care less about our current situation. There's not even an expectation that the removal of Bruce will have any lasting effect ok the overall trajectory of the club, the end of the Ashley era is the only ticket for that ride, but it does at least offer the hope of the odd game of football where we're not left wondering yet again why we bothered to watch.
-
You would have to think that this would be Bruce's last managers job certainly in the premier league, probably in the Championship. That said there does seem to be an incongruous practice of employing known entity managers despite the known element being that they are shite and play dour football and struggle tactically.

Not currently shitting, but Merry Christmas to the lot of you anyway. What a shit year in general but also for Newcastle. Can't believe I still watch the absolute shower that we have become week in and week out, I'm pretty sure it's because I have you lot on here to moan to about it, so thanks for that.

Not upwards anyway.

We've never, in 20+ years, looked so consistently lacking in structure, strategy and general impetus for such a sustained period of time against such a variety of opposition. That includes two seasons that culminated in relegation. If the board were at least semi cognisant they'd have to be incredibly worried about the current state.

"It was always going to be a tough ask"

Geez, the ref was keen to get back to the change room there, 2 seconds of added time. Unsurprisingly Wilson has been our best player, with Fraser also lively. Worryingly Lewis has looked out of his depth on a few occasions.

Blocked and reported.

Steady on there Luke Edwards, as if Bruce has a formula.
