  1. Today. Wasn't sure if you were aware as it doesn't really affect you.
  2. Today. Its OK yours isnt until 30 November.
  3. One of his collegues gave him a slap when he complained about them flipping his screen.
  4. Stevie getting bullied at work tBH. Go to HR mate, they'll lend a sympathetic ear.
  5. Nah, maybe the scrutiny won't be as intense but it will still be more than all bar the top four as I said, and that's where the bitterness from people like yourself comes. It's good to exist, and we exist in the nations psyche far more than clubs like yourself ever will, it's not a pop at Tottenham, and in a roundabout way the writer illustrates that very point beautifully. Deluded Stevie. People have short memories. As more coverage than anyone outside the top four, I am not sure you even qualify for that now. I think we have this season. Obvious why though. Probably the most chaotic season of any top-flight club in recent memory. If the only objective is to get press, good or bad, Ashley is the best chairman you've had. It isn't and he isn't our chairman, let alone a good one. Stevie loves him. "Look at how many column inches eh pet" or some such.

  8. maybe he has a habit he needs to finance. Creosote doesn't come cheap you know.
  9. It was a big deal to me when Leeds went down. I hated the dirty fuckers, my first experience of being really scared at game was down to those fuckers and it gave me almost as much joy as when West Ham went down. Now they have been down for so long I really don't think about them, yes they still get the lion share of media attention in that division but compared to the premiership teams it barely registers. If Newcastle do an extended stint in the lower leagues it wont be any different. If you bounce straight back then I expect the media to be all over it like Leeds were (or even if you go into free fall) but if you settle in the lower leagues media interest will fade soon enough and someone else will have to entertain the premiership for all the wrong reasons. Step forward Daniel Levy.
  10. Ah yes - only the UK is affected so isn't it's its obvious the root cause is the FSA. How exactly would the BofE prevented this Danny? By doing what they are doing now after the horse has bolted. Stress testing, scrutinising bank risk profiles and exposures. I don't blame the FSA, they didn't have the expertise required to scrutinise the banks and their instruments in detail. The BOE didn't have the expertise either - the root cause of this goes back to Thatcher and Reagan - the market knows best philosophy compounded by later slackness and encouragement of consumer greed. If 5 or 10 years ago Labour had announced large scale regulation of the city and a huge clampdown on irresponsible lending via credit cards and mortgages what do you think the reaction would have been? It would have ranged from mild "Old labour stifling growth" jibes to outright rebellion and would certainly have lost them the last election. If Cameron or Duncan Smith had won on that basis do you think there would have been more chance of the Tories preventing the crunch or Newcastle winning a trophy? There is a massive difference between the stimulating effect of deregulation introduced by the tories and the free for all credit fest we saw under labour.

  12. What, like bankers, stock brokers and footballers? Good riddance. £150 K is a lot more than most professionals earn and don't forget you only pay the excess on money earned above this level. Danny B showing himself to be a good old Thatcher boy tbh. Like innovators, idea merchants, small company owners and sole traders. Nothing strangles an economic growth like over taxation. Of course Danny, all those people are going to up sticks and go exactly where? Funny how other economies with higher tax rates never seem to be affected by this so-called brain drain. They are.
  13. Isn't that one of the major reasons for the way those institutions who have had to bailed out recently behaved? "give us de-regulation, so we can behave in a financially reckless way or we, and our taxes (such as they are) will go abroad" De-regulation, the CoL's "Big Bang" etc, was all brought in under the Tories to keep their mates happy. By the time Labour came in stricter regulation in a global financial marketplace was virtually impossible for any Government. Yet Brown gets it in the neck for this. He's got plenty wrong, but it strikes me that there isn't a lot he could do on this. Horse, stable door and bolted springs to mind. Absolute rubbish, it was Labours decision to move control of the banking industry to the FSA from the BOA that allowed this to happen.

  15. Well if it was the same people who were getting hit at 40% before, then is it not anyone on around 35-40k p.a.? Am not sure about that, am far from up to date with these things, but the figure may well be not as high as you think. You'd need to earn £150,000 to be affected by this new rate. My heart bleeds. Has the earnings for 40% not changed then? No
  16. Watch this countries bright sparks and wealth generators move abroard.
  17. In the budget. Surprised the LLs on here aren't partying like its 1999.
  18. Funny that as they said the opposite on sky. They made the comment that while Shearer has changed formation just before as well as during the game, Kinnear pretty much stuck with the same and played more players out of position. Thing is your mention Stoke, we changed the system during that game as well. Against Spurs, we looked better during the game once that was changed as well. As someone else has already said, its a shame Shearer has to do now what most people do pre-season. Are you saying when the game was going against us he should not be reactive and just leave things as they are? No if there is a problem you need to sort it but with Lennon and Modric on the wings as an outlet with no covering full back our possession and dominance was assured from the kick off IMO. The fact that sky disagree I would say is complete vindication of my point. Bit rich like. Shearer's reactive rather than proactive i.e. wise after the event but it's took you 4 days to work this out I thought it unwise to criticise the new messiah so soon after what was a comprehensive defeat.

    Owen

Cockney Press aim at Owen again but Shearer is no mug By Lee Ryder on Apr 21, 09 09:28 AM So hold on a minute, Michael Owen goes on a barren run, loses his England place and then has a bad game in London and suddenly he should be dropped for Newcastle United's game against Pompey. Make no bones about it, Owen is suffering at the moment and is playing way below the level we all know that is locked away inside him. But then again, name one Newcastle player who is pulling up trees at the moment? The answer is nobody because the team has been drained of confidence and belief. They are all suffering at the moment and the only reason that Habib Beye and Sebastien Bassong have stood out so much in the last two games, and they have done well, is because Newcastle have been under the cosh for so long. The Toon stars are not immune from criticism by any stretch of the imagination. And on board we have players who have played well for other clubs and failed to do the business here at Newcastle, in truth they have been a let down, Mark Viduka, Damien Duff and even Nicky Butt, by his own admission, haven't lived up to their reputations elsewhere. And when you look at Obafemi Martins, a crowd favourite all the same, he is by far the poorest of Newcastle's number 9s during the Premier League years. I don't think there is anybody who could say he's better than Alan Shearer, Andy Cole or Les Ferdinand. But getting back to Owen, suggestions that Shearer does not have the bottle to drop his old pal are a nonsense. Yeah, it would make a sensational story but Shearer understands better than anybody that if his best goalscorer isn't getting the service, then how the heck is he meant to score? Owen has always been a poacher and although he isn't the lightning quick teenager he was when he burst on to the scene, he is still a major threat if used in the correct way. His poor performance was as much down to those around him on Sunday than anything else. I lost count of the amount of times that Ryan Taylor failed to get past the first defender from corner kicks. Or the amount of time that R Taylor crosses were spat out by the Spurs defence and left unchallenged by any of the Toon's target men. Shearer knows about goal droughts, he went almost two years without scoring for England before Euro 96 and then what happened? He lost his form and had his patience tested by Ruud Gullit before Sir Bobby came in, and then what happened? Then after a good first season under Sir Bob, he lost his form again, and then Newcastle signed the little man Craig Bellamy, and then what happened? Things change for strikers and they go through barren runs. Owen has 10 goals this season for Newcastle and to be fair his face has been tripping him. Do you blame him? Has your face not been tripping you as well after this farce? For what it's worth, Shearer would be wrong to drop Owen and certainly wrong to do it for the Cockneys. But whether Owen is the right man for the captain's job is another matter. Shearer was an all round battler in his day and in many ways a different type of player to Owen and probably more suited to the captain's role. It could be argued that taking the armband away from Owen could lift some of the weight on his shoulders and let him get back to what he does best. Yet for crying out loud, don't drop him now. Don't drop him for this must win fixture against Portsmouth. Shearer doesn't have time to get results and unlike Kevin Keegan last term he hasn't the time to get the confidence flowing. But if Newcastle do finally turn the corner against Pompey, what price Owen plays a big part in it?
  20. It was his THIRD F***ING GAME AS A MANAGER. And? He's only got eight games in all. 1 point from 9 isn't good enough. Sounds like your start to the season tbf. Lets hope you accumulate more than the 2 points from 8 games we got.
  21. Funny that as they said the opposite on sky. 22. Squad limitations I'd say, given it didn't work well against Stoke. I thought the general concesus was you improved when you went to 3 at the back.

  24. Has anybody else wondered why Shearer thought a system that worked well against stoke would work well against Spurs? You couldn't get two more different teams in terms of style. His changes only happened when you were getting battered, showing he is reactive rather than proactive.
