Rather ironically, one of the Newcastle owner's circle of friends has publicly backed his judgment - and appealed for Ashley to be given time.... Former Spurs vice-chairman Paul Kemsley said: "Mike will deliver exactly what the Newcastle fans want. "People have got realise that Sam Allardyce was not Mike's choice, Mike bought the club with him already employed. "Mike took the view that he is in the job, let's see if he can deliver what I want, which is good-quality, attacking football and to win games. I'll give him time to see if he can deliver that. "Mike has put £250million into the club and is about to invest more, no doubt, in the window, and I suspect he wants to invest that in his own man and his own team. "Mike's a very considered guy. It is certainly costing a lot more initially than he thought it would. "He, along with everybody else at Newcastle, wants to see good-quality football, they want to win, and he's a winner. "It's a difficult decision whenever you get rid of a manager and there are always a thousand opinions. But he thought about it and decided it was in the best interests of the football club. "I know Mike well enough to know that he doesn't make decisions rashly. He will know where he's going, he will stick to his plans and deliver what he believes will please the Newcastle fans. "If you give him time, he will deliver exactly what the Newcastle fans want. I'm sure he's got a plan." Id like to think this was true, reafirms what i initially thought of the guy, im sure he'l get the right guy in and give him money to play with. After all this will be his manager and his team!

So Sam Allardyce has become the latest managerial casualty at Newcastle. I thought about choking over my coffee when I heard the news but then decided against it. For while a manager being sacked after just eight months would be shocking news at most other clubs, only at Newcastle can we take the news with a sigh, a puff of the cheeks, and a tut or a smile depending on your allegiances towards Big Sam. We've been here before of course. Many times. Though this time perhaps the surprise is slightly greater for the sheer fact that Big Sam brought with him a long-term plan, something that appeared to have been swept under the carpet ever since Sir John Hall wondered aloud that a team of 11 Geordies would be rather nice. Granted the football has been a bit of a shambles this season. Let's not get away from the fact. Any team that struggles to score goals when Michael Owen is up front has to be doing something wrong. Allardyce also spent so long concentrating on defence that he forgot we had no one in midfield with the simple ability to pass a ball through the middle. Watching Michael Owen run channels, and Viduka just not run, is not a great combination when you're looking to finish off games. Lazy critics may mock the defence time and time again, but for me, the greatest problem was that lack of creativity in midfield. The way Man City's Elano opened us up time and time again at the City of Machester stadium earlier this season only rammed home exactly what we lacked. It was a masterclass that the likes of Alan Smith and Joey Barton could only aspire to. My early pre-season optimism surrounding the blossoming career of young Aussie midfielder James Troisi disappeared faster than the plane carrying him to Roda JC this week. And which first team players have we been linked with so far in January? Defensive midfielders and central defenders. You don't unlock a door by buying a padlock. That to me was Allardyce's biggest downfall. No wonder he played a long-ball game. Bypassing midfield wasn't actually a bad option, especially when his most creative midfielder was being played at left-back. His signings have been suspect too. Decent wheeling and dealing saw him land Viduka, Faye and Beye on the cheap, but the real money signings like Joey Barton, Jose Enrique and Alan Smith simply haven't worked for a whole variety of reasons. And the gutless performances against Wigan and Derby in December simply was as bad as it has got since the Latics knocked out Graeme Souness' side from the League Cup a couple of years ago. With Allardyce's priority appearing to be to stop the opposition first and foremost, rather than making them worry about our strengths first, his reign at Newcastle would always be limited. You cannot go to Reading or Sunderland looking for a draw. Even teams below us in the league would be plotting the downfall of these teams, rather than looking for a 0-0 draw like we did. Draw first, and a win is a bonus. That appeared to be the mentality, and that simply is not what people pay their money to see. Not here, not anywhere. A team boasting the likes of Duff, Owen, N'Zog, Viduka, Milner, Barton, Martins is simply not set up to grind out 0-0 draws. Allardyce was fixated on defending, when the attack was crying out for some attention. Allowing Allardyce to leave after just eight months was probably just putting an end to the inevitable long-term. Sure, it doesn't feel quite right to get rid of a manager so soon, but will anyone shed a tear if it means N'Zogbia playing at left-wing, Milner on the right, and Martins and Owen upfront?

Now that we have got rid of the "clueless" numpty that was BSA we can collectivly move on strong from this. I think the albeit short tenure of BSA has opened alot of geordies eyes to a few underlying issues. Firstly just how split we are amongst the terraces. We all want to see our club do well but first and foremost play attractive football and shed the "Mug" tag over our heads and regain the "entertainers" tag for which we have come to know our football. Sadly since the departure of KK and the brief spell of entertainment under SBR we have been forced to watch negative, frustrating and at times down right baffling teams walk out onto the pitch. When we look back to the times of the likes of Dagleish and Gullit and to some extent Souness it wasnt so bad compared to the awful football we were subjected to under BSA! At least we had 11 players in their favoured positions 90% of the time. I just think we can all look forward to the rest of the season now instead of second guessin our line up and essentially the losing outcome on a saturday evening. Who ever we bring in will be of substancial quality i think, ashley has heard the fans when he has been in the barracks and he knows we want attractive attacking football so id go as far to say i totally put my trust in his and morts hands. At the crossroads now we should take some time to reflect on where we are now compared to where we were 10 years ago and realise we are not the force we once were. Lower our expectations and put some faith and patience in the guy we get in. We can only move forward now and put this well and truelly behind us and watch re-emergance of the entertainers!! Come on boys!!

Former Newcastle striker Mick Quinn believes it was the Newcastle fans that forced Sam Allardyce out - and it will be those fans that get Alan Shearer the job. Allardyce left the club "by mutual consent" after just 24 games in charge as reported first on Sky Sports News. Quinn, who scored 63 goals in 126 games for the club, did think the former Bolton boss was starting to win the supporters over, but feels that owner Mike Ashley eventually bowed to public pressure. "If anyone's been to Newcastle, it's like a goldfish bowl," he told Sky Sports News. "I call it the People's Republic of Newcastle and if they're not happy, they will have their say - and Mike Ashley has been amongst them and has been listening to them. "I did think that in the last two or three games he had won them over, because he had been getting a good reception. Look at the reception at Stoke - but I suppose that was more relief than anything that they didn't get beat! "To be fair it's been building and building. It doesn't look they'll win anything this season, or like they've moved on from last season. Looking ahead it doesn't really give you anything for the future either. "Sam will be disappointed, because he's a passionate guy, but I'm afraid the fans have won again. And they'll want one of their own now." Favourite Geordie legend Alan Shearer was immediately installed as the bookmakers' favourite to take over at St James Park. Jose Mourinho, Steve McClaren and Martin Jol are among those also being linked with the vacant post, but Quinn is convinced that despite his lack of managerial experience, the former England and Newcastle number nine, will get the nod. "Kevin Keegan went back to the club as manager and that worked out quite well and they'll want something similar for Alan Shearer," he said. "He turned down Manchester United to go to Newcastle and they are eternally grateful for that - forget about all the goals - and now they want him as their number one. "Alan Shearer would be as good as anyone and I can't really see beyond him. They've tried Graeme Souness, Kenny Dalglish, Ruud Gullit, they've tried the big names. "They've gone for Bobby Robson and experience and it just hasn't worked out. They need a fresh face and maybe an old head to advise a younger man like Alan. "But when I was up there, they were screaming for Shearer - and they'll be disappointed if they don't get him."

Like I said its all instigated by the southern press - wait and see - Ashleys no muppet he wouldn't do this if he hasn't done the deal with someone Correct! I think the fact this has come out the blue and ties in with the "blow your socks off" article last weeks, we might just see the special one here, if not a very good attackin manager at least!

Me too, worth a tenner ay?

Great minds think alike.....that was my 1st impression anyway. Yeah but it really does sound like bollocks though. Your smokescreen idea, that is. This is NUFC, we don't do smokescreens, we do incompetence. Well the NUFC of recent times yes, but ashley is a very shrewd businessman, i think this could be his way of transforming the club into his own. Doing things his way right from the start........Mourinho in by end of next week! You are setting yourself up for a very VERY crushing disappointment. Well while im an optimist i am also a realist, so though i have a feeling mourinho has a shout im not holding my breath because this is nufc afterall, and iv got the pessimist inside screamin "mclaren, mclaren, mclaren" haha Id be happy with....Lippi, mourinho, strachan, van basten and possibly shearer!
