Yeah, but at least they are creating chances every game aren't they? If I am a striker looking for a new club, would I be more interested in joining a club with a good midfield creating chances or a team like newcastle in which I will get 1 or 2 chances a game, and am expected to score those?

Do you play a lot of Football Manager then? No I don't actually. But its common knowledge that you build from the back, whereas you are trying to build from the front. If you are creating 10, 15 chances a game, your strikers will finish a few of them. But you guys are creating 1 or 2 a game, and thats not good enough. Am I wrong in my assessment? Yes. We don't have a manager long enough to build from anywhere. Please if you're just going to bleet out like that piss off. Why did we lose Keegan? Partly because he wanted 2 more defenders and Mr Wise he said no. I'm just calling it as I see it. I can't think of any other team that has such a quality gap between their midfielders and their strikers. Usually midfielders are better than the strikers and there's a good reason for that. It wouldn't be the end of the world if you sold Owen and Martins to buy some quaility midfielders. Obviously if you can buy quality midfielders without selling them that would be better, but you need people who can create. Not 1 player who can create, but 4. Overhaul your midfield and the goals will come, and with it wins. Then you can sing ei i ei i o

You think you have created a lot of chances? Wow, you must have really low expectations. I think you should sell Owen and Martins for a lot of money. Use that money to buy some really quality midfielders, and some decent strikers. You don't need world class strikers like you have when you have total crap midfield. Build up from the back. Defence is decent, now make the midfield great, then once you have then, then you can recruit quality strikers to the club. Right now its pretty obvious where you need work, and thats in midfield. Not sure why your management can't see something this obvious.

Your midfield is terrible, you don't create any chances. You can have Pele and Maradona up front but with the midfield you guys have, you would lose every single game. What the hell were you doing all summer? You sold Milner and didn't buy a replacement? Sell them all and buy good young players that actually have ball control/vision. I mean, you basically have Butt playing CAM! Geremi can't cross to save his life, I don't know what happened to Duff. Where is Guttierez, he looked good when he was playing. I would be so upset if I was Owen. He comes out every game ready to go, and your midfield gives him like 1 chance a game. Put N'Zogbia in CAM!!!!!!! He's the only creative player on your team!! You might as well try it, he's wasted in LB!

If Newcastle won the cup, Joey Barton would probably shoot someone as a celebration!

Adebayor vs Bendtner - A little unfair?
blaugrana909 replied to mattypnufc's topic in Newcastle Forum
I don't think there's any difference between the two, I don't see how the Dyer/Bower thing was a full blown fight when no punches were landed and yet the two Arsenal players make contact and draw blood but that's 'handbags'. If the ref had given the two of them reds I'm sure they'd have taken it further walking off the pitch, ridiculous double standards by the London scum, the FA and the police as per usual. Not fully sure why Newcastle fans are always playing this "victim" card. Why there is this general mentality that everyone is out to get you because you are Newcatle. I've seen it time and again, and it's really a bit ridiculous. You saw "I don't see how the Dyer/Bower thing was a full blown fight when no punches were landed". So if a man shoots somebody with a gun and misses, that's not an attempt to kill him? No action should be taken, just because the bullet missed? Because that is essentially the arguement you are making here, and it seems like you'll go to all lengths to make yourself and your club feel like victims and treated unfairly. Maybe try reading the post properly. I did read the post properly, and it's not specific to this post. The Dyer/Boyer incident was a huge, violent, and extremely public. Any referee in the world would have sent them off, and rightly so. But this current incident was extremely minor compared to that. You're making it a case of double standards and what not because you think you are being victimized. Let's reverse the roles. If you take the two incidents and reverse the personnel involved, so Adebayor/Bendtner are violently punching each other and Boywer/Dyer have this incident that took place yesterday. Are you going to tell me that if your incident had happened with Arsenal, they would not have been sent off, just because they are Arsenal? Would the Newcastle players have been sent off if they were involved in the incident last night? Of course not! Any sane ref would have sent off ANYBODY, irrespective of which club they play for, if they were involved in what Dyer/Boywer were involved with. But some Newcastle fans insist on viewing everything through such a lens that makes them "victims", and I don't understand why. -

Hitzfeld, Houllier and Van Gaal now in the frame
blaugrana909 replied to Tribal's topic in Newcastle Forum
These are the types of managers you guys need. People with experience, people who have won titles and cups. Not Harry frikkin Redknapp. van Gaal was Barcelona manager for a good 4-5 seasons and did a decent job. He'll certainly give you the attacking football you crave, provided you give him time to make signings beyond one transfer window. Don't think Houlier will quit his current post, but he also has Premier League experience which is a bonus if you can tempt him. Hitzfield is another fantastic coach, has been instrumental in turning Bayern Munich into one of the best teams in Europe. Hope you sign on of these men! -
Just 2 quick questions I have about all this. 1.) Now that Big Sam got sacked, how much did Ashely actually have to pay him for the remainder of his contract? 2.) Assuming that Redknapp is appointed manager, how much would Ashley have to pay Portsmouth as compensation? Thanks!

here's an interesting article i just read from goal.com. i know some of their stories are crap, but this is an interesting editorial: Newcastle's Next Boss: Shearer Or Else As Sam Allardyce departs Newcastle United, attention inevitably turns to the question of who his successor shall be. There’s only one man who will enable this club to move forwards, and that’s Alan Shearer. Even if he proves to be a terrible manager. ‘Mutual consent’. Football’s favourite cover-up phrase. But let’s cut to the chase: if you weren’t expecting Sam Allardyce to be sacked as boss of Newcastle you are clearly new to the topsy-turvy world that is Geordie football. Allardyce has been a dead man walking for weeks. It was a question of when – not if – the axe would fall. Admittedly the former Bolton man hadn’t set the world of football alight since arriving on Tyneside in the summer. He hadn’t created a new mould of super humans clad in black-and-white stripes to dominate the Premier League. But apart from that, what did Allardyce really do wrong? After all, he was given a mere eight months to make his mark and 11th in the table is hardly a disaster – it’s higher than at this time last season and this should have been regarded as a transitional year. Sir Alex Ferguson’s march to glory at Manchester United was far from instant. But he was given time fashion success. Caretakers included, Newcastle have now gone through 16 bosses since Fergie crossed the border into England – time is clearly something Magpies managers cannot enjoy. Fergie’s recent claim that Newcastle fans expect their team to win 5-0 every week also bears more than a hint of truth: for a club that hasn’t won a major domestic trophy since the 1955 FA Cup, expectations among supporters are immense. There are many things that turned Geordies against Allardyce, but the Yorkshireman’s biggest weakness was this: he is not Alan Shearer. Owner Mike Ashley is clearly a man of the people, and fear of being rounded on himself has hurried him into caving to the demands of those baying for Allardyce’s blood. This is a club where supporters often hinder more than help – Ashley would do well to listen to their wishes once more by installing Shearer in the St. James’ hotseat. Because he’ll be a great manager? No, because the team – and it’s fans – need to move on. Since signing for his boyhood club from Blackburn Rovers in 1996 for a then world record fee of £15m, Shearer enjoyed an illustrious spell in which he captained the Magpies to, well, nothing. But regardless, he is revered by the fans. While Shearer has acquired his Uefa coaching badges he has refrained from taking jobs at lower division sides in the mould of Roy Keane or Paul Ince. It appears to be a case of Newcastle or nothing. His repeated refusals to rule out the possibility of taking the manager’s job have only harmed the club he loves. You, I and the fans know he wants the post one day. But until he takes it, every other Newcastle United boss will be undermined. Football management is a popularity contest, and on Tyneside nobody beats Shearer. Only time will tell whether Shearer will succeed at St. James’. My personal opinion is that he would be a disaster. But a good disaster. I severely doubt his ability to turn around the fortunes of a side in whose system he himself was entrenched for nine mediocre years (mediocre by Magpies fans’ lofty standards, at least). Master motivator perhaps, but Arsène Wenger he is most certainly not. Nevertheless, Newcastle need Shearer now. In the worst case scenario, Mike Ashley can diplomatically move him upstairs, bring in a replacement with superior technical and tactical capabilities and allow the new man to focus on the task at hand without having to endure the constant whinging about how Shearer would be the saviour of the side. Until Shearer has had his chance, Newcastle are doomed to repeat this sorry sequence over and over again. Chris Williams http://www.goal.com/en/Articolo.aspx?ContenutoId=541164

I'm very surprised you guys have sacked him. He's a proven manager in England, one of the few, and he's barely been in charge. Just wonder which top manager would want to take the risk of joining you?? Few bad games and you guys will want the man shot! So which top man would actually want to subject themselves to that? Furthermore, I think Alan Shearer has to be appointed now. Until he is appointed, I don't think anyone will be able to manage Newcastle because "the threat of Shearer" will always be looming. I think he need to be appointed, it is almost inevitable he will fail, and then he can leave to get real experience while fans give the manager after him proper time to build a team. Good luck guys, I hope you can get yourselves back to the caliber you once were. Hope you guys did the right thing...

you guys are playing very well, but nobody giving credit to big sam on here....?

Given Beye Faye Taylor N'Zogbia Milner Emre Geremi Duff Smith Viduka? Wonder if he's given into fan pressure by dropping Rozenhal and Barton and moving Milner to RM. fans like you certainly complain enough, i'm not surprised he's given into the pressure!

Hello Newcastle fans, I'm a new member on this forum, but I've been reading it for quite a while. I've been a barcelona fan for my whole life, but one of my friends is a huge newcastle fan and a member of this forum, so I have started following Newcastle a bit too. Just thought I'd make a few comments about this managerial situation. When Barcelona first hired Frank Rijkaard, we too were promised tales of glory. However, in November of his first year, we were sitting in 10th place, and were just about the laughing stock of Spain. Everyone was calling for Rijkaard's head. He had tons of players at his disposal, but was unable to make them do anything on the pitch. However, our president stuck with him instead of firing him. In January, he hired a new assistant coach, and brought in a new defensive midfielder to help out the back line. Our team was unbeaten the entire second half of the season, and finished in 2nd place after almost being in the RELEGATION ZONE earlier in the season. Yes, in Rijkaard's first season, we were almost in the relegation zone. But look at where we are since. After his first year, he got rid of a lot of underperformers from before, brought in youth players from the academy, and bought good new talent. From being close to relegation zone in 2003, we were the best team in the world in 2006 when we won the La Liga and the Champions League. My point is that good managers, no matter how clueless they seem, should be given time. I'm not saying you guys will win the Premiership anytime soon, but you have nothing to gain by sacking Big Sam. For all you know, Alan Shearer might get you relegated, given his experience! So give the man a chance. At least wait until the end of the year. Another thing, if you sack Big Sam, who is regarded as one of the better managers in England currently, after just 15 games, which top manager would want to join you? Just what I think, thanks for reading. Hope to have good conversations with people on this board!
