Love how Carroll is suddenly the best thing since sliced bread when a couple of month ago they all called him shite. Don't rate the lad one bit and he's obviously a heed the baal in all, I also get the impression he's got a massively inflated opinion of his abilities and would demand a large wage. Agreed, it's just a big show by Ashley and co. Carroll's had his head turned by more cash and Ashley obviously wanted to sell, it's just like you say they needed a way of damage limitation for the fans so turning Carroll into the bad guy gives them a good out.
