Generic small time football blather thread FOREVER
Howay replied to Sonatine's topic in Newcastle Forum
What a monumental prick he is. -
The lengths many in our fan base go to defend him is what’s extreme tbh. He’s not a luxury like, he’s not good enough to be a luxury. He would be a luxury if he was a consistent threat but then showed his disinterest defensively, but what we get from him is largely disinterest on both sides of play except the odd occasion where he decides he wants to play a bit. He’s a talented dribbler of the ball but he doesn’t lift his head or have a good enough footballing brain to pick out a key pass, or capitalize on the advantage his dribbling ability creates. We’ve seen enough of him now to know the glaring weaknesses to his game that he has, and they’re ones he’s never improved which is why he won’t fit in at a side like we are now. He’s a player you look at and think if only he could do xyz he’d be brilliant, but he simply won’t ever do those things. I don’t see any of my criticism of him as extreme, it’s fact imo. I don’t think he was the only issue today of course, but I do think he’s a wasted selection - Murphy would have done more than him to help us win today iyam. The issue I take with him is his disinterest and laziness, I can accept Murphy being below the level we need as he works extremely hard and gives us a chance in games due to that commitment and work rate - if ASM showed even half that effort I wouldn’t be this angry with him. Sorry like but he’s a player that come on in a semi final we were leading and he proceeded to walk around looking uninterested, given a chance to start today after we signed a £45m player in his role was a similar response. I’ve made my stance on him clear often on here but he’s taken the fucking piss the last two outings for me.

I’d accept if he just couldn’t fit in the system, but it’s more than that. Those players you mentioned all showed for the ball, took responsibility, made great passes and helped our attack - ASM very rarely does any of that. I think when people compare him to a player like Ben Arfa it’s a very favorable comparison, Ben Arfa had a lot of issues and struggled to fit systems but he knew what to do with the ball in terms of passing and awareness of teammates. ASM has zero interest passing to his team mates, while yes I agree it’s probably always been this way for him since he has talent in the dribble he’s also at fault for having no interest in adapting his game. As Alex said he wasn’t even showing for the ball, he was glued to the line and when a pass come his way he’d watch his marker move to the ball and he’d just throw his hands up. He played for us in a terrible time for the club and since his dribbles were exciting he won a lot of good will with many of our fans, I’m simply not one of them. Fwiw not meant to come across as having a go at you Holden, I think you’re being reasonable it’s more I’m exhausted with how much lateral our fan base give a bloke that I think simply doesn’t give a fuck.

I think he got it wrong, we should have started Murphy if we weren’t going to play AG. I get what Howe was probably doing though as we have had so many games and he was probably hoping ASM would actually put in some effort given we just signed a £45m player to play his position, he’s probably also had ASM chirping at him about how good he can be. Backfired on Howe and likely was a lesson learned, I personally feel that’s the last start we see from ASM.

Spot on. I don’t understand people defending him man. Gordon had more touches in his cameo than he had in the entire game, the bloke is glued to the line and wants the ball to his feet so he can dribble it about and not do anything with it. He’s been like this since day one for us, his laziness and lack of team play was forgiven as we had fucking nobody and no tactics but now we have a team all pulling in one direction and he’s simply not doing it. Sorry like Holden but I don’t understand saying he doesn’t know how to press and pass as if that’s an excuse, that’s embarrassing as a football player those are fucking basic things. He’s an arrogant player who just thinks about himself, he just wants to be a highlight reel and imo it’s clear his team mates don’t think loads of him. He comes out with stuff about wanting to play with players like Isak, it’s all arrogance to me this beleif he is of that level when he’s never ever shown it. As I said he got away with it in a poor side as he has talent on the ball but compare him to a Mahrez who pairs that talent with work rate. He doesn’t deserve the constant excuses our fan base gives him, he’s a lazy arrogant player who couldn’t give a flying fuck about the team, look at how he constantly threw his arms up all game like Ronaldo does. It’s time for him to go, maybe a side like Lorient will offer him a way out.
-
Poor performance but Wilson missed some really key chances. Has to be putting those away imo, hopefully Isak is back for next match as it’s time for him to be starting. I’m hoping that’s ASMs last start for us and he’s gone in summer. Total fucking embarrassment for him today, no effort or fucks given the same as when he come on for the SF.
-
He’s crap man, our fan base needs to stop defending the bloke he’s not a good enough 11 a side football player. He constantly stands in the wrong positions, doesn’t protect the ball when he gets passed to, he’s just wank and has horrible work rate. There’s a reason no fucker has ever bid for him even in Ashley era. We can say he doesn’t get touches but when Isak comes on he gets loads of touches - a lot of his lack of touches is down to him being in wank positions.

I love them making up a nickname purely to gatekeep it. They need to get a grip like “daint enjoy the final youse are going to cos weeeyah went to the Callum Smith LDV vans rental centah community cup theeyah before yaz” fuckin plums, just enjoy your imaginary Barca tiki taka football.

Only a mackem could try to turn a comparison to Simeone into a negative. “Ahhhh marra Simeone? Knaaas nowt his team just bullies, don’t play proper football like the lads”.

Agree with this. It’s a risk but our owners see it as a measured risk to get us to our long term aims. We are establishing ourselves as hard negotiators who pay a fair price but won’t be taken to the cleaners, or panic. We did this in the most uncomfortable position imaginable 12 months ago when we refused to give in to demands for Botman, or Carlos, and it’s worked out for us. We now have that to fall back on in negotiations as proof us walking away isn’t a bluff, players know it (see Gordon quotes regarding not wanting to miss his chance) and clubs are learning. Contrast that to Chelsea who are a complete fucking laughing stock, tried to play hardball with Benfica and have ended up paying exactly what Benfica demanded. While Chelsea are an extreme I think Manchester United are another example who get their eyes ripped out on basically every deal because they’ve established themselves as a soft touch who will overpay/panic (I think Ajax wanted 80m for Anthony earlier in the window which Man Utd walked away from before coming back and paying 20m more). It makes me nervous and I really wanted us to sign a CM, but I trust the owners plan and Howe to get us to where we need to be. It could mean we miss CL this season, but the upside if we manage to get it this season is fucking huge as Isegrim points out.

Just being straight up racist now, what a fanbase. In fact another of the racists decided to hop in and double down on the racism.
-
Apparently Chelsea forgot to submit any of the paper work for Ziyech’s move to PSG, so his move collapsed while he was sat at PSG’s general office. Considering some are making out that Boehly and his lot are cunning geniuses navigating FFP in ways no one has they look more like a bunch of amateurs who will cause severe issues down the line imo.
-
He was booked, so there’s a fucking ridiculous rule where if the player was booked it’s deemed the ref hadn’t missed the incident he just saw it as a bookable offense so they won’t upgrade the punishment despite everyone and their dog knowing the decision was completely wrong. Makes a fucking farce of the entire thing but here we are.
-
Aye, I think it’ll be a big indicator of ASMs future if Murphy starts. There’s surely no argument that ASM isn’t fit at this point so if he doesn’t start it’s clear he’s just not favored.
-
Absolutely fucking buzzing, can’t believe we’re in a final this soon after take over. Good finishes by Longstaff for both his goals, if he can start hitting the target like that more often it’ll really help us in the second half of the season, we went to bits second half and lost our cool at times but fortunately it didn’t cost us. Losing Bruno for three games is wank but the rest might actually do him some good.
-
Class. I always love them bringing up play-off trips to Wembley as being a point of pride, you only go because you’re not good enough for automatic promotion if we’re at the stage of counting that shite then we’ve got two recent league titles, fucking morons.
-
We did the right thing, the deals weren’t there so we didn’t overstretch for lesser targets. Getting rid of Shelvey is a no brainer, I know Glooms view on him but my personal opinion is he’s absolutely no miss whatsoever so I think we’ve done phenomenal business getting shot of him for what we did, plus the bloke is a cunt (Jonjo not Gloom 😉). Maybe we could have made our top 4 challenge stronger, but at the same time I fancy our chances even with the current CM especially with Gordon coming in meaning J7 can drop to CM as and when needed. We will have a lot more firepower in the second half of the season with Isak and Gordon, having those two in will also stop Almiron getting the coverage he’s received recently. I don’t think Connor Gallagher was the separator between us getting Top 4 or not tbh.
-
Aye it seems very PR-ish, I think Man City will focus on Bellingham in summer. I’m not bothered either way, if we get top 4 (tbh even if we don’t) the summer is going to be a completely different market for us compared to the one a year ago. We’ve kept our powder very dry and could make a big splash with CL income coming in.
