I’d be more against it if I didn’t believe that FFP was a total heap of fucking bullshit that was designed purely to keep the established elite in place. When you look at how little we get from the CL compared to others and the minor punishments Manchester United and teams like that receive for breaking FFP it just shows how nonsensical the whole thing is. FWIW I think multi club ownership is one of the biggest threats to fairness, but kind of how KD mentions other clubs do it, while not directly funding a purchase of a top player they’re strengthening - the fee paid for Sesko was a joke for example, the Harrison and Mooy deals both of which were sold on for huge profits. Brighton and Villa have both been called out by UEFA, Arsenal and clubs like it historically used their status and sometimes minor ownership to funnel African prospects into their club using that ability to get around visa requirements. We have more weak points in the squad than a few of the teams listed but we still have around 2 months. Speaking of: £40m would be huge for FFP purposes, especially given ASM would have amortized most of his original fee by this point. I was worried the recent UEFA rulings against Villa and Brightons use of sister clubs would be an issue but since Saudi Arabia isn’t in UEFA we should be clear to do this.

ASM averages about 9 turnovers per 90 excluding misplaced passes, Barnes under 6 per 90 over the last 3 seasons. The defensive stats for Barnes are poor but they’re still better than ASM and it’s a season his team were relegated, his defensive stats for the prior season are a lot better and show how he contributes to the press especially his attacking 3rd number (the key one for how we play). Key passes and shot creating actions aren’t the best stats. A key pass is simply a pass that leads to a shot (so not a line breaking pass), so that could be a sideways pass on the halfway line that ends with a 30 yard shot into row Z, and again it’s stats from a relegated team. Shot creating actions will always heavily favor ASM, it counts every action in the lead up to a shot - so a take on then a pass to a player who then shoots means 2, whereas Barnes using a 1-2 pass to beat his man then passing to a shot taker creates 1 SCA. Tbf to Edwards I could see him being right here. The Romano link to Diasi seems a little weak to me, it’s in his typical vague fashion and I’ve not seen it elsewhere - Diasi was heavily linked to Man U but they’ve been focused on other areas so it wouldn’t shock me if it was Romano doing one of his agent mates a favor and linking us in the hope it sparks Man U.
