It's brilliant that Colback isn't even on the bench. Wonder what's up with De Jong, he seemed to feature a fair bit in pre season but he hasn't even made the bench for either of the first two games.

Can't say I know much about this lad, his goal record is a bit naff but Rafa seems to rate him so thats a plus. I was underwhelmed with Clark and Atsu as their prior records were also a bit naff, but both have proven canny so far. Of course there have been a few whiffs such as Lazaar but I'm trying to see the positives in this one.

It looked like he was struggling to put any weight on it before he went off down the tunnel. Its frustrating that Kane will face no punishment for what was a terrible and malicious tackle. It's going to be a massive blow if Lejeune has broke his foot.

Agreed, I'm also happier to place more blame on Shelvey than the defenders as that pass would have been harder to make if there was another Newcastle player helping in the area of the pitch it came from...

Aye I saw a fair amount of positives today. This one was always going to be an uphill battle but I thought our lot did well at the back and thought it was somewhat even until Shelvey decided to be a total fucking bellend. Their first goal was quality, we can blame the defenders for missing Alli but his movement was class in the build up. I was really hoping we'd get a goal when our lot had that spell just for the confidence if anything, Merino looked a touch of class in his 20 minutes and the rest of the side seemed to play with a bit more expansive play after he came on which was good to see. Manquillo had a good game which was nice to see, Lejeune looks like a player so hopefully he's not badly hurt. It'd be class if this Merino lad had a quality 3 games in dickheads absence so we don't have to depend on Shelvey anymore, he's proven he'll never fucking learn today and the worst bit was Alli had barely even done anything other than petulantly kick the ball away, if that's all it takes then we're fucked . Oh aye, also Atsu had a good game. No idea how Kyle Walker #2 was given man of the match, he was lucky offside was given against Gayle as he gave away a stone wall pen, he looked weak as piss all match as Atsu manhandled him. The lad might be decent but I thought Eriksen and Alli were head and shoulders above the rest today.

Aye, Manquillo is quietly having a solid game. Really hope Lejeune is ok, I think Dummett will be out for a couple games mind as it looked like a hammy. Happy with the first half, clearly we were frustrating Spurs. Robbie Earle commented that "if that tackle was Jonjo Shelvey on Kane we would have been talking about a red card" and he's spot on imo, if Lejeunes leg had been planted it could have been broken.

Nasty challenge that by Kane, verging a red for me as he clearly went in with malice the cunt. Hopefully Lejeune is okay as he looked solid.

They'll be telling everyone how they'd easily win the Premiership if they played in it after rinsing perhaps the most embarrassing club in the divisions history. It is nice of their fans to make improvements to town of Sunderland though.

It is a total disaster of a central midfield. The main thing Diame has over Sissoko despite being about as frustrating is he doesn't think he's a world class talent. I know I say it a lot but I genuinely look forward to the day where we don't have to watch Colback play. The lad is absolutely fucking tragic, it's actually impressive he has lasted this long as a professional football player never mind spending his whole career in the top two divisions.

Aye, it's a shame as I do genuinely want the lad to somehow get it together and become a solid defender but it's not happening. I'm not saying we're fucked if he starts the season but it just needs addressed after this many seasons of him being there if we ever want to properly improve.

Nice to see Dummett picking up where he left off , genuinely don't understand how him and Colback still get regular games after 3 or so seasons.

I reckon Krul perhaps made a fuss and forced the loan move last season, that probably made Rafa question his character and commitment so now Rafa just wants rid.
