Generic small time football blather thread FOREVER

It wasn’t that long ago they were all squeezing into a rented transit van to play friendlies against non league sides .

Aye, a 33 year old Fabinho went for about £10m more

Why is Ornstein or these clubs bringing up market value? Firstly they need to stop crying any and everytime the club do anything, there’s nothing dodgy about the ASM deal - it’s a fair fee all things considered it’s not like we’re getting 55m for Hendricks. There’s also no such rule or anything about market value, they could give us 300m if they wanted. I also don’t get why they think the PL has purview over what a Saudi Arabian club do, even UEFA doesn’t - if our owners wanted to take the piss they absolutely could have as there’s nothing stopping them, but they haven’t and still these clubs and journalists whinge I can’t see the PL wanting to touch this one with a ten foot barge pole as they’ll know PiF are playing ball. I also don’t get all these conspiracies about the ASM deal, if the PiF was using these clubs to massively aid NUFC they’d never have given Liverpool and Chelsea large sums of money for their aging/unwanted players completely flies in the face of the idea they’re helping NUFC with this.

The knight Ryder has landed, I like that he records videos while zoomed in.

Really like the possible Livramento signing, he can play either full back position (as can Trippier), and a left flank of Livramento and Barnes is very pacey, strong, and direct. It’ll be interesting to see if we sign a right winger or if Gordon is the plan for that flank. I still think we need more this window but we will have a really strong first 11 that you can see clearly fits Howe’s system.
-
Getting blamed for shite that’s fuck all to do with us now. It’s cute that Villa fans think they would register in the PiF’s thoughts though. The fact that Man City, Chelsea, and Liverpool have been given large FFP boosts from these Saudi clubs completely undoes this weird conspiracy theory angle.

Because of his drink driving offense. Fair enough really shame as I’m probably going to the game against Brighton so was looking forward to seeing him play.

Believe me or not I’m not arsed, I’ve never claimed to be ITK and as I mention in that post there’s 3 people that make all the decisions now and even the scouts are kept in the dark. I’m pretty sure Hope at one point even wrote an article about it, it’s why transfer gossip around Newcastle has become very inaccurate. But sure cling to thinking Eddie Howe is fucking devastated about a player with 6 goal involvements and who last scored a PL goal 11 months ago being sold without him knowing anything.
-
Agree to disagree I suppose. I think Howe is a lot more ruthless than he’s given credit for which is why I read it the way I do.
-
I have a relative that’s a scout at the club, so I don’t need to have heard direct from Eddie. So shut your pipe you fucking idiot.
-
Twitter, I’d updated that post to mention. Not meaning anyone on here besides LTA
-
Spot on, we’ve already seen on here how ASM fan boys go after Gordon as they see him as some threat to their idol. Plus on Twitter the negativity towards Barnes is fucking rampant by ASM profile pics, thankfully it doesn’t seem to have put Barnes off.
-
It’s an easy thing to say, on the flip side behind the scenes he’s clearly fine with selling him given he works very closely with Ashworth to the point where generally it’s only him, Ashworth, and Nickson in meetings making decisions on players. Not sure why you think he’s going to be so devastated to lose ASM tbh, the reality is he may have kept him as a squad player but he’s able to get a few players he really wants in exchange for losing him and is answering the question posed to him in a nice way that appeases the idiots among our support that overhype a painfully average player and plays into the players ego in case the sale doesn’t go through.
-
I think that’s reading a bit into it. ASM is a popular player among fans so Howe is just trying to be pleasant, it’s not like Howe used him like an integral player throughout his management of us which is more telling to me than him being positive in response to a question
-
Like Gemmill mentions he’s bound to be positive about him, he’s not going to come out and say he doesn’t fit my tactics etc. Howe will have a say in incomings and outgoings, it will have been run by him.

Andrew is probably meaning Twitter and other areas, a lot of fans are so over the top about a player who puts out extremely average numbers in terms of actual impactful output. His dribbling is obviously very good which catches the eye but his goals and assists numbers are poor, I think 10 combined is his best season for us. The level of discussion about him far outweighs his actual contribution to the team, which is why I agree with Andrew’s post. For example he is often credited with keeping us up over the Bruce years, the reality is it was Willock, Wilson, and arguably Shelvey when you look at the goals, assists and the games they come in, he was no doubt the most exciting player but as others said that was a time we had no plan and his mazy runs that went nowhere had potential, now they’re just fucking frustrating because we have an actual approach to creating and scoring goals and many of those runs to nowhere just turn the ball over. I’ll remember him fondly as he really was the player that caught your eye for a few years but it’s time for him and the club to move on. We could basically go out and get Barnes, Goretzka, and Livramento for the fee under FFP.
-
Aye was going to say FFP works that way, it’s why Grealish being sold for £100m has allowed Villa to spend massively the last few years. We’d have the full £40m or so gain, and Barnes impact would be £40m divided by 6 so about £6.5m for the year and then the difference between wages of the two players. So it would free up a load of spending power.
