I’m of the same thoughts as Alex, that I’ve thought about the human rights issues far more with regard to our takeover, I can’t really think of discussing the background of the Abu Dhabi lot. I don’t view football as some exception, if they have the ability to freely invest elsewhere then investing in football shouldn’t be off limits. I find it hilarious that we’re now hearing people calling us a ‘community club’ and that this ruins that, did they miss the prior 13 years of some arrogant fat carpet bagger just stomping all over each and every tradition, legend, or hope for the club? They can all do one as far as I’m concerned.

So Ashley has taken a non-refundable deposit (which definitely is contingent on them having exclusivity) and signed away the club pending final PL approval, and then agreed to another deal 3 weeks or so into the PL checks? You know what I find disgusting? It’s also worth noting that the majority of those you think are defending the Saudis are now doubling down on this to further wind up people like you. We are a fan base that have had an utter leech as owner for 13 years, we’ve watched every facet of the club we love being torn to pieces. From having past legends of our club treat like shit (see Kevin Keegan suing the club, and Alan Shearer having his name removed from Shearer Bar), to our stadium being renamed to simply kick the fans further after relegation, ambition strangled, terrible football, arsehole managers etc. Then just as news breaks the club might be sold, before fans even have a moment to breathe and take stock of who the potential owners are, an onslaught of wankers like you jumped down the throats of the fan base labeling anyone who is excited about this to be monsters supporting the Saudi regime. That’s exactly how you put people on the defensive and the wind up, which is what happened and you’re now getting offended over it.

Agree with the above points by KD, also think it highlights in a way that if people are interested in trying to change the house of Saud then allowing them to invest and become involved in western culture is a potential avenue. Shutting them out surely severely hampers the chances of them changing at all, and if anything could make them worse. I’m not going to pretend that that’s my main motivation behind being excited about this takeover, but there’s an argument to be had there.

It would be fantastic to see all this go through, Bein to end up bankrupt as the Saudis beat them out on the next TV rights deal, and the Saudis turn around and sue Keys for his throwing around of accusations as fact. The part that makes me laugh the most about all these journalists suddenly on their high horse, is that if they were successful and the bid was blocked they’d all pat themselves on the back, then immediately start writing articles about how shit we are, and questioning why we sat back and got mullered the next time we played Man City.

It’s getting absurd now like. I googled it and he’s chairman for the Human Rights Foundation, I get it now from the same angle I get the Amnesty International letter and while I do accept them opposing this do they perform similar actions to every investment the Saudis make? It’s made up bullshit imo, it’ll be misinformation from the side that wants to block the Saudi bid in the hope of turning Newcastle fans to that side, since those that would be conflicted would be happier for the deal to fall through if we also still got rid of Ashley.

Aye he’s sharp changed his tune from last week. I agree with his points on FFP, that it’s set up to stop Man City type clubs rather than help avoid clubs going bankrupt. However, I can’t see it that the potential new owners don’t have a plan of working within, and succeeding within, the FFP framework. FFP’s been around a while at this point, and this lot are clearly very sophisticated and are surrounding the bid with very switched on people.

Wow it’s such good logic. The investment into Chelsea really saw a big benefit for Fulham, you can totally see their point. Fucking deluded wankers. The only plus for them is if the Saudis do invest heavily and make Newcastle even better as a city they may be able to use that to attract more League One players to live in Newcastle.

Keys really is a desperate cunt. So he’s accepted and signed everything to do with the Saudi bid, but he’d rather some other bid that Keys made up in his head would succeed. That’s an additional point as well, the PL know this is coming from the owners of PSG. So that’s a rival leagues super club attempting to block the creation of another super club under the PL brand.

I understand people would be worried about the Bein letter, but there’s no chance they would actually do something like pull out of their deal with the PL (that would hit them hard financially) nor will they avoid bidding for the rights in future - losing the PL rights would cripple Bein, the PL would know both points. The Bein note is based on allegations, they’ve not proven any connection between BeoutQ and the Saudi Government / PIF. The Saudis would probably get around any worry as well by saying they will be bidding for the Middle Eastern TV rights when they go open to bid is 2022 (iirc), which will make the PL’s eyes glint even more. I think it’s also worth noting that the PL, and English football in general is fearing the fallout of COVID-19, here’s a group coming in that are highly likely to trigger a huge cash injection into the English game, and getting many long chains of transfer deals started, I can’t see the PL turning that down because one of their many TV partners are trying to half bluff that they might walk away from a new tv deal in 2 seasons time. I think we can look forward to a lot of this proxy war type behavior between the gulf states over TV deals etc going forward.
