This is what gets me, we are fucking bottom, have managed 3 shots on target in all the games under Jones so far, yet we still sit deep as fuck, don’t bother pressing, and honestly don’t even look solid in defence. It is a weird one like, these staff must be fairly impossible to negotiate with since it’s now cost him two jobs. Saying that there’s also the chance they tried to take the piss knowing we are over a barrel and our lot chose to play hardball, which would be worrying to given we are desperate.

Fair play to Emery for turning it down if he just didn’t feel that interested in the role, I’m sure it was a fairly sizable pay bump. My worry here is that it’s more leaking and an attempt to save face. If it is that they seriously need to pack in leaking what’s going on.

Likely due to convincing him to come and manage in the SPL, I don’t foresee it being a similar issue trying to attract him to a PL side. I could be wrong but I don’t know why else he’d have took so long faffing about over the offer from Celtic.

I’d heard from somewhere it was in his deal that if he got sacked within 6 months he’d get no pay off. That could have been why they moved so quick after appointing him rather than giving him a chance. He’d be a better option than Howe imo.

I do agree, my worry is I don’t see Howe as the bloke to keep us up. If they’d have come in and appointed him within a week when we had played 6 or so games that would have been one thing, but appointing him after scrambling around for a month with 10 games played makes things a lot harder. I wouldn’t be as worried if Howe was a manager that was known for grinding results and making a hard to beat side, like a Dyche maybe, but he’s not that type of manager. Obviously if he comes in I’d support the bloke and root for him to prove me completely wrong, but I’m not positive about the rumour.

Spot on. The other point for me with Howe is he’s an unknown for me, Emery has history turning teams around in contrast we have no clue if Howe is capable of that. He did well at Bournemouth but it’s a club that built around him over years, and when he tried somewhere else he failed before going right back to Bournemouth. Coming into the PL with a club you’ve been building through the leagues for a few years is a stark contrast to taking over a struggling side mid season, add in that I don’t rate the bloke very highly in general he spent a decent amount of money with Bournemouth and they never kicked on. Howe was a good option when we had Ashley, I really don’t see him as a good option now.

If we end up with Eddie Howe that’s tragic tbh Not just because I think he’s a fairly shit manager, but also because he could have been appointed day 1 and it’ll have took them a month to end up with him.

I agree with others that they really need a footballing structure in place ASAP. It’s taken far to long to bring a manager in, and the approach has seemed a bit haphazard especially if this week was the first time contacting Emery. If the options here are Emery or Howe that’s also fucking weird, it could of course be the media just making shit up but that’s a hell of a difference in terms of stature and quality. If we get Howe I’m doubtful we’d stay up tbh, the bloke was a disaster at Burnley and has only ever achieved some level of success with one club. Fwiw it does seem a bit like posturing from either the Villarreal chairman (to try and hang on to Emery) or Emerys agent (contract negotiations starting), as it just seems a weird turnaround for Emery to have discussed with the chairman, then went out of his way to not deny it to the press, only to then hours later supposedly leak to only Balague that he’s not interested.

Hopefully he’s wrong, I’m not sure of the guys track record but I do know his nose seemed to be put out of joint a bit with our takeover so possibly he has some ill will there, but again maybe he’s right. Would be a pretty quick turnaround from the Emery quotes following the game which imo read like him giving his boss the heads up that if a contract came in he would likely sign. Would be a shame as for me this bloke is the best we’ve been linked with besides Conte. I’ll be pretty gutted if we end up with someone like Howe.
