The Entirely Reasonable Potential Transfers Thread

If that’s the case I’d absolutely love us to go mad hoying in bids, and offering increased wages to loads of player in the PL knowing it’ll all get rejected and unsettle the players while we actually go after players outside of the PL. -
Aye that was my takeaway from that too.
-
They were so close to six in a roweh as well, which of course meant they could have held up one full hand of fingers to show the wins.
-
Once Joelinton settles in the Yaya Toure role we will be safe.
-
From the same token we play Southampton, Watford, then Leeds in January with a potentially much improved side. Also it’s West Ham away they have to play in January which isn’t good, they play Villa at home after hopefully getting pumped 4 games in a row (they play Arsenal in December too). I’m more looking at us staying within touching distance up until the January window, I think after January we will hopefully be able to accumulate more points than those around us - my biggest worry was we’d be 15 points behind by January which would have been a massive ask but fortunately no one looks like pulling away especially with a run of fixtures like Leeds have which is actually a worse one than ours.
-
If these results all hold it’s been a great weekend for us. Think Leeds have a rough run of fixtures coming as well. Just checked and aye Leeds play all of the top 3 away from home this month

I don’t really see it being relevant in that respect especially if the intended aim isn’t to be some super club. It would be fairly low interest advertising on an expensive billboard. Think we agree there’s no way of knowing the true intention until things start to move. I don’t think even if they come out and said it that it would be more likely as again it’s just words, Ashley himself said he wouldn’t leave unless he won a trophy and then made the team even worse. I’m wary myself but I also don’t see many reasons to not be somewhat confident that their sights are set high, I’m not particularly worried either way as tbh it’s already miles better than Ashley era given we have a manager we like. My real point here was more don’t take any messages of low ambition from these journalists. They’re speaking completely out of turn and know fucking nothing - as clearly seen by Law getting an absolute smack down from Mehrdad likely brought on by yet another senseless and snidey insult made by Law about Amanda (funny that Telegraph writers seem to have it in for her).

He’s absolutely embarrassed himself that Law, come out since claiming Emenalo was offered advisor to the board with a view to become DoF firstly why did you write a ton of articles over months stating it was DoF, and secondly that literally makes zero sense anyway. Why would someone be an advisor to the board with a view to being DoF with the DoF role open? What’s he going to help with? Appointing a DoF? So he helps appoint a bloke in a role he has a view to occupying himself? I know who I believe in this discussion. Seems like Emenalo is Fonseca mk2 here, and was using Law as his mouthpiece to tout himself for the job. -
Why diversify into what would be a purely loss maker? They’ve sunk £1.3B into it already which they’re likely never recouping, I can’t see it being any benefit investment wise even tight arse Ashley made maybe £200m profit maybe total? Between the gain on sale and his bleeding of the club through loan repayments, not sure how that would ever be worth their time. The only way it would ever be a relevant asset in that manner would be to turn us into a Man City type club - but even then who the fuck out there is paying £3B to buy a football club. We won’t know until years down the line but like we’ve seen in my post above the whole Emenalo link was total bullshit by Law (seems like the Telegraph writers in general are a waste of time now btw), who was using it to further his little agenda of spinning the new owners as having low ambitions. Again I’m not claiming to be some massive ITK but I know for a fact the links to Trippier and Sule are genuine and there have been talks with both to bring them in for January - whether that happens is one thing but to me it’s a far greater indicator of their ambitions than idiots like Law embarrassing themselves. He didn’t count on the new owners being willing to call him out in Twitter did he
-
Also… So seems to me a little bit of bullshit spinning by Chelsea fan Law. funny that Law never said that before isn’t is? Bullshit artist.
-
Note, he didn’t even quote anything the bloke said he’s just reported it and as AH said it’s the bloke that originally made the link. It’s entirely possible that, similar to Fonseca imo, that it’s all a made up link anyway. Then it’s an easy claim and one as I mentioned the media is more than happy to make to say there’s a lack of ambition. If it’s true and there is a difference in that then I imagine it will be more to do with the speed it happens rather than the end goal. I get what Rayvin means to a degree but I just don’t see how it does any good if they come out and state they want to dominate football and be the next City/PSG, that would just confirm the fears of the established top sides throughout Europe, it’s better to say something vague about challenging for trophies and let them spin stories about lack of ambition etc for the next few years as the new owners go about sorting the club out.
-
I don’t really see Saudi Arabia investing in a club that competes in the same league as a club owned by the UAE and be content with it being a shit mid table side while the UAE owned side dominates. Same goes with owning one on the same continent as a Qatari club. It just wouldn’t make any sense to me, what would be in it for them to turn us into a steady mid table side? It’s basically cost them £1.3B to buy us if you factor in the payment to settle the BeOut issue, so they’re never making a profit (especially if we are just destined to be a mid table side). I know the media are licking their chops at any sign/mention of a lack of ambition from the owners, and constantly spinning any player linked/any imagined link that ‘turns Newcastle down’ as evidence the owners have some weird ambition of buying a football club to watch it stagnate in mid table. As Gemmill says the only things the owners have said about the matter are discussions about competing at that level/challenging for titles, they can’t exactly come out and say we are going to spend £5b on players and be the best side in the footballing world as the reaction from the other clubs would be even larger as they try anything to stop it, better to play their cards closer to their chests.
-
Aye I can see the owners maybe wanting a slower turnaround than he might want, then it would make sense imo. It also makes sense those saying he might have lost the chance at the job and this Journo is his pal since Law is a fairly Chelsea focused journalist.

Generic small time football blather thread FOREVER

Aye as you know that would be a dig at his ‘haters’. Social media is brutal and if you put yourself out there you will get plenty of people having a pop, similar as when Bruce whined about it you can ignore it or you can get pissed off about it but it’s not going away. I think he needs to concentrate on his content tbh, I’m not a fan of the True Geordie but he’s worked hard and been adaptable with what he has done to get himself attention, he didn’t just stand outside the training ground repeatedly for entire days then announce he’d sacked everything off so he could carry on standing outside. He also surely has to realize that when he responds to people trolling him with stuff about how much he’s making from YouTube etc it’ll only lead to more abuse and trolling… -

I don’t think going back to a prior manager would be an answer. I also would have massive faith in Howe absolutely bossing the Championship, tbf even if Howe had the squad we have now with a whole pre season under his belt I don’t think we’d be any where near the position we are in. Obviously that’s impossible to know but just looking at the impact he’s had on performances, fitness levels, etc. On a perhaps harsher point I think Rafas career is winding down a bit, in contrast we are a big chance for Howe to step up to the next level of manager. I’m not saying they’re comparable btw, Rafas record as a manager speaks for itself, I just mean I think it’s an exciting chance for a young manager who may grow with the club, as opposed to a manager whose best years are likely behind him as a manager (again maybe harsh). I also agree with KCG that the football will be more entertaining, while it’s not a concern in the situation we are in currently I think when things turn around it will be something the fans want to see. -

Hasn’t this been rumoured for ages? And they were just one of the clubs they were looking at along with us. Apparently Serie A is the most popular league in Saudi Arabia and was in part why there was all those snidey comments about us coming out of Serie A execs after we were purchased. I don’t see anything online like Gemmill says, so maybe it’s just more ITK type stuff? They’ve claimed Inter have been bought about 3 times since we were taken over. I think the Inter owners are supposed to be quite against losing a controlling stake in the club as well, so any purchase by PiF would be a minority stake.
