The Entirely Reasonable Potential Transfers Thread

Fuck sake man, imagine worrying the club that currently sits 2nd in La Liga, who will be 2 points off top spot if they win their game in hand. Meanwhile we are 19th and were being told by Gabby Agbonlahor that money doesn’t matter players won’t go It still doesn’t feel real. Going from Ashley to this. -
After this harmless joking tweet I suspect we should expect some mackem to tell us how all of NZ were in fact MLF’s way before this.

Not sure even a bed wetting post from me can help, it looks like they’ve snapped into gear and are a run away train now. Get the lot of them done in time for Saturday and team bed wetter will have stiff rather than wet sheets. -

Never heard of him, but one YouTube highlight video of him later and I’m now absolutely convinced we need him. Maybe I’ll have a melt down if we don’t get him, see how I feel later. -

Tell you what, these Sky Sports lads have some front. First SHAMELESSLY ripping off Luke Edwards, and now infringing on Pearson’s turf?

My sheets are dry for now, but I’m still legs crossed holding it. I’m hopeful I was wrong. This move looks like a possible shift in focus for our lot, in that they’ve tried to sign Botman/Carlos/Vlahovic etc types and despite maybe positive noises from agents/players the clubs weren’t playing ball, our lot have tried for just over a week and have now switched focus to Wood and maybe targets like Cantwell. If that’s the case then to me it’s a real sign of improvement compared to the manager delays, which to me is positive. As I said in my hardcore bed wetting phase of January 11th, 2022 this is still only based on what it looks from the outside, there’s still a worry that they’re pissing about on targets that’s clubs won’t budge, but this move finally showed decisiveness and practicality. I think it really strengthens our hand now as well, obviously we still need players in but the chances of a win in the Watford game are certainly much improved if we get Wood in. Truthfully what set me off on the walk towards my bed for a piss was the reports the prior night hinting that there was no move for Woods, as I had kind of built it up as a no brainer of a move in my head since it not only improves us (considerably imo) but it resigns Burnley to the drop (unless they somehow get a better striker for whatever fraction of the £20m mr disc beard gets). I guess I’m not sure what’s next tbh, we need CBs but who out there could we go for that would fit a similar profile to Wood rather than a Botman type? Maybe Conor Coady? He’s weirdly made a lot of positive comments about us since the takeover, I think he’d improve us at the back considerably but Wolves aren’t exactly hurting for money. I’d still like to see Cantwell in despite some peoples reservations. I hope we can get a CB in before Watford, if we do then I think it’s been a solid start to the window. Then likely another CB and CM needed (at a minimum imo). -
Spot on, how much was Ings? £30m? So a more injury prone player with a similar goal record (at better sides) for £10m more. I guarantee Lineiker was one of the ones praising what great business it was for Villa. I don’t understand how anyone would see this as crazy money? We could also likely get £12m or so next January to some other relegation battler.

Brilliant signing imo. Improves us and absolutely fucking ruins Burnley. I think with him getting on the end of Trippiers crosses we can beat Watford.

I appreciate all of the above, I don’t want to be scathing of the owners as to be clear I blame Mike Ashley 100% for this impending relegation (if we ignore the other issue which was the PL blocking the sale for over a year). At the same time I do think they have been a bit naive in their approach, I appreciate all of the difficulties but this is why they should have brought in people that have more experience than themselves. Agreed as well that the targets they’re going for are extremely tough ones, and like I said in the past I feel they’ve been encouraged by agents hopeful the clubs would do business, but they should have been moving on other targets at the same time. Maybe they were/are I can only speak to what’s in the public but we’re hurtling towards halfway through the window and we aren’t making much progress. I never expected 5 in the door in the first week but tbh by this point I fully expected 2 in with a good lead on possibly a third in time for Watford - I really don’t see that as unrealistic. While I may be oversimplifying things, I also think people are over complicating signing players at times as well like the Botman deal, why did we spend 10 days on that? Surely they were getting some indication that Lille were not going to play ball unless it was insane money? There’s even a quote from an AC Milan executive where he’d said Lille absolutely won’t sell Botman in January or words to that effect which was a few days before we gave up, I took it at the time that he was meaning give Botman up on loan and maybe he was but it seems there were clear indicators they wouldn’t sell. I don’t understand what makes it so immensely complex that they couldn’t just arrange a call with the club and discuss what the demands would be if they were to sell - if the valuations are a million miles apart why linger? Again maybe we do have multiple targets we were actively pursuing alongside Botman but so far it doesn’t seem like it. If we have only managed 1 in 11 days and we are only now/in the last day approaching new targets that’s really not good. Maybe it’s not the case, but we really do seem to be moving very slow. The underlying issue as well is that we absolutely are desperate, so clubs will take the piss a bit this window but is there any way around that? We can keep shaking our head and walking away, looking for a new target and starting the process again but the longer the window goes the worse it’s going to get. The reality may be that we just have to go down to be honest, as I’m not going to slate them for not massively overpaying so maybe that’s just the reality here. -

But we don’t even seem to be getting to the part where the player is the one rejecting us do we? Maybe behind the scenes absolutely everyone is rejecting us and discouraging us from bidding but I just don’t see that being likely. We are a PL club, 2 points from safety, that have the richest owners in football - there will be players who would definitely come thinking they can help avoid relegation. I think the idea that we’d massively struggle to attract anyone is as incorrect as the one that we will get anyone we want due to money. The answer will lie in the middle and as 247 said I’d be making a ton of approaches rather than (as it seems) this slower targeting of 1-2 targets at a time. -

The pissy bed counter to the waving of willies about fixtures left is that the timing of fixtures is shite, the same as it was when Howe come in. We play most the fucking shite between now and March, then it’s a bit of a brutal run - which is similar to how we played Brentford and Norwich when Howe had walked in the door but by the time he had a chance to really get his tactics over we were getting slapped about by Leicester, Arsenal, Man City and Liverpool. Genuinely hope I’m wrong on all of the above, we get our targets in and then are a competent side and cruise to safety. If we got Wood in I think there’s a chance we beat Watford, which would make things seem less desperate and maybe help negotiations / buy time, so that’s my hope now big Chris. -

I think it’s a little much to say it’s impatience tbh. They’ve had more than enough time to make progress on targets, while I don’t think every single thing journalists are reporting is true we are currently 11 days into the window with one signing in. If we play Watford with the same squad that we had for the Cambridge game it’s bordering on absurd to me. I understand teams are hesitant to sell in January, but they could have been talking to clubs in November and December. My big suspicion/fear is that our lot have went round talking to agents, for example Botmans agent, who has went yes my client would love to come and Lille need cash so would likely sell in this range. Rather than open any channel of discussion with Lille our lot have come up with a price in that range they’d be happy with paying and then waited until January to approach Lille who (not so promptly) told them to fuck off. It’s what they seemed to have done with Emery, spoke to his agent he gave them the go ahead but they neglected the hand the club had to play. I like Jacobs but we’re a fan base that have had the most turgid owner in PL history for 14 year and then when we have this excitement of a new takeover they’ve repeatedly botched things. It’s feeling very amateur hour to me. I don’t think branding people as impatient is fair, it would have been impatient if people were screaming January 2nd that we didn’t have players walking in the door but by January 11th only having 1 in and 1 other player that we had any public official bids made? It’s very poor. -

Yeah, if there’s no chance of big Woodsy then I’m firmly in the bed wetting camp. Until we sign Vlahovic or something then I will flip sides immediately. -

That makes sense, I was similar to Tom I always liked him but since he’s been at Liverpool he’s been brutal. I always thought maybe it was just because I can’t stand Liverpool but now you say that it makes more sense. -

This video is why I dislike Klopp, look at the beaming smile when the reporter mentions a 7-0 win and then as soon as it’s something he doesn’t like he starts being a prick. The question is obviously a bit of a sound byte shite one but is there any need to be that much of an unrelenting twat? -

If this is true, I will hold in my piss a little bit longer as it means at least things would be happening behind the scenes. We need more action, I’m hesitant if this lad was the only striker brought in due to his lack of experience - of course if he is as good as his record over his first 17 games then that would be mint but we’ve seen it before where a lad scores for fun then disappears. -

Aye, I’ve heard the release clause is apparently 25m. Honestly though I’d do it, it resigns Burnley to relegation more than likely and gives us an actual presence up top. Not what everyone dreamed for but it gets us to the summer and then he becomes a cover option. I’d take one step back from my sheets if it happened, so maybe some of my piss would hit the floor rather than the sheet. -

Can we call it Wednesday instead of Friday? To give a couple of days training to any new players? At least my sheets will be sopping by Wednesday if we don’t have anyone else in. -

Agreed, my worry is they (from the outside) don’t seem to be showing enough urgency in general. Maybe they’re trying really hard and just getting brick walled at every turn, but my worry is I thought the manager search was a little bit of a farce and took a bit too long, I let them off since they were brand new and a lot was going on. We still don’t have a DoF - if it’s the model they want they’ve had long enough, waiting is fine but you need to show a level of competency which they didn’t really show handling Howe and so far aren’t showing in the transfer market. Regarding the window, I was worried no bids were going in prior to the window, I played it off thinking maybe it’s all behind the scenes but then the Trippier deal took pretty much a week to get done, during that time we put in a bid for one other player (two max if we did ever actually bid for Carlos). Over the weekend I’m now assuming no bids went in/discussions advanced? Again an outside assumption but the lack of movement in public today seems to lean to that. If they have given up on Botman I get it, Lille asked to much or whatever things happen, but where’s the contingency? Have they had discussions with ANY other club? Or have they been laser focused on Botman and are only now going to start looking elsewhere - if so our hand has been even further weakened as now all these clubs we are going into negotiations know we’ve missed out on our top target, have a defence that just had their pants pulled down by Joe Ironside, and have realistically 2 days to get at the very least 1 CB in so we can get them into training ahead of Watford. Maybe I’m being harsh but honestly they’re not moving decisively enough. I don’t know what’s stopping them putting in bids for multiple targets at once and seeing how the bids are received, it may even strengthen our hand (a little bit) if clubs sense we might go elsewhere and clearly have other options as we have bids in. Again, maybe I’m being unrealistic or maybe things are happening that we aren’t seeing but so far all I’m seeing is very slow movement and them focusing on trying to pay what they see as a completely fair price. -

My worry is we don’t seem to be even getting to the point where we are discussing player contracts (besides via feeling out their agent as we’ve apparently done with Botman and Carlos). Villa so far have had a better window than us, if we want to stay up that can’t be the case we need to move quicker than this and haggling over fees is slowing us down. We’ve been discussing the Botman fee for over a week at this point, in the meantime Umtiti a possible loan option has signed a new deal meaning that’s likely off the table. If we had more bodies through the door and were at the point of trying to get a “nice to have” target in spending a week on negotiations is fine but we can’t do that yet. Regarding Schick and Vlahovic, agreed they may not come but players like that even if they wanted big money for them aren’t much risk - even if we went down people would be queuing up to get them in the summer.
