Generic small time football blather thread FOREVER
Howay replied to Sonatine's topic in Newcastle Forum
Aye that was it wasn’t it. Bruce claimed MaCormack was late to training so he said his electric fence wouldn’t open so he couldn’t get out. I’d have sympathy if Bruce wasn’t a piss taker himself, he probably made note of that to use himself in future. Think McCormack is the most expensive player in the English leagues never to play in the PL. Agreed on Hogan, I think he’d been electric for Brentford the season before or something but aye not exactly done much since moving to Bruceys coaching. -

What always sticks out to me from that period, and why I always remember the prick spent a fortune is they basically priced us out of moves for Hourihane and Hogan, think they both commanded fees near 20m. He also had Kodjia who they got for about 15m. Then they come 13th while we come top, think he had a nightmare with Ross McCormack as well. -
It’s a wonder the thing is working again, apparently it was switched off all of transfer deadline day…

What a prick. If anyone wants a little insight into why Newcastle fans don’t like Bruce this is one of the reasons right here. Saying he hopes we do well but then implies we will be wishing we come 12th, what a helmet.

Didn’t he have the most expensively assembled squad in Championship history at Villa? Iirc that was the case, he then fell out with half of them and tried to swap Jack Grealish for Jordan Rhodes or something. The fucking idiot. -
Agreed, he gets a lot more credit than he’s due tbh. Like with hindsight we now know at Derby he had 3 loan players that aren’t just PL quality but 2 of them (Tomori and Mount) are CL quality - and we’re not talking years later they were that level it was basically the following season they walked into playing at that level. Harry Wilson I’d also say is a PL level player tbf to him. I give him credit for trying this job mind, it’s a very tough situation as the club is a total shit show I wonder where he goes if it’s a failure. Palace chose wisely passing on him for Vieira who looks to be a canny manager.

Head of fan engagement too -
His mate already out defending him. Who would have thought a fan base that had to spend two and a half years being tortured by him and his dickhead mates in the media, like Luke here, would comment when the shambolic nob got a new job? Like do one Edwards, I’m happy to admit I’m bitter enough that I hope Bruce has nothing but a shite time for the rest of his managerial career, not that it needs wished on him as he will take care of that himself. You can’t attack a fan base for clearly seeing a downward trend, then when the inevitable decline in results started just throw your hands up and say well I guess it just went wrong at the end . This is a bloke that going into his third season very clearly had a squad that he didn’t even train to be match fit for fuck sake, he’s an absolute shambles and doesn’t take his job seriously. I know it’s possibly not the case for some on this board but for me Bruce’s tenure was honestly the low point of my time supporting Newcastle, I genuinely felt my love for the game slipping away, I packed in watching any games beside Newcastle and was honestly reaching the point where I was trying to stop bothering with those and for that I will always dislike the bloke. Obviously it wasn’t entirely down to him, it coincided with the hopelessness of being completely stuck with Mike Ashley as owner after the takeover collapse but just everything about Bruce was fucking dreadful. He was an embarrassment to the club, he regularly took any criticism he received as a massive insult and rounded on the fan base or the players, the manner that the press went over the fucking top to defend him and how he played the victim for them every fucking time “eeeee man the abuse I get is unreal, had nothing like it ever” while the stadium was fucking empty and prior fan bases had actually physically assaulted him! The football was absolutely appalling, people can defend him and point to the players but he took iirc the 7th best defense in the PL over from Rafa and the next season we had the 16th ranked defense, the worst part about the football though is there was just absolutely no fucking plan. The football was wank under Pardew, Souness, Allardyce, etc but they had a plan, even Kinnear had some type of plan in attack, I genuinely couldn’t tell you what our plan was under Bruce it was just plain shit. He can fuck off, his wonky nosed prick of a son can fuck off, and this sodding gimp of a journalist can fuck off too. Dancing round as we sign players the fucking melt - same tit that screamed at excited fans that it wasn’t happening and you’re embarrassing yourselves, that you’re wrong and Bruce is a good manager. Fucking welk.

What a fucking brutal list. Fucking hell thank fuck we were taken over or we’d have seen similar lists
-
Aye it’s a shame for them tbh. They’ll have to put up with his legion of defenders in the media for why the football they’re served up every week is fucking shit and why they failed in a bid for promotion. He’s a fucking shit manager, that’s the end of it. Edwards embarrasses himself everytime the topic comes up, the Newcastle fans were spot on from the off regarding Bruce but he’s conveniently just moved on from it, I’m sure he will similarly act like that comment wasn’t his opinion when it goes wrong at WBA.

I just remember that happy to be there central midfielder they had who very clearly wasn’t very good.

That’s mental. I can see what the mackem owners are doing with Keane, in that they don’t know what they’re doing so they’re just placating the fans with Defoe and Keane to avoid any possible blame when it goes tits up, but what the fuck are WBA doing? -
“Type of character they need to reignite promotion bid” the last bloke had them 3rd it makes total sense getting a bloke that hasn’t managed in a decade and it went tits up back then though. Fucking hell first Defoe and now Keane, they really do think it’s 2011
-
Is that the bloke who shakes boxes of rice as backing noise for the insane chants he makes up in his mams attic? He’s a danger that bloke.
-
Just saw this, aye this is where I am too. He’s doing a job, and he’s preferred to Longstaff/Hayden etc, but I’m still not sold on him. Kind of similar to Fraser for me, except I think replacing Fraser would be priority for me over improving Joelinton if I had to pick.
-
He’s fine for this season, and then a squad player going forward but IMO unless he suddenly improves his on the ball ability he’s not good enough for where we’d aim to be mid-long term. He’s strong, quick, hardworking, and has done a good job giving energy and determination in CM while lazy bastards like Longstaff and Shelvey just shrugged. But on the ball he’s immensely limited, because of his likability due to working hard people tend to shrug it off when he whiffs chances in games now when in the past they’d be frustrated. I understand where NJS is coming from, I’ve seen people putting Joelinton in the front 3 or behind a striker in these “this is how Newcastle line up” but honestly man he’s not good enough on the ball for that, again maybe he will improve but we’ve seen enough of him on the ball to know he’s not exactly a brilliant passer, and his finishing is poor (if I’m being kind). I agree he’s not a striker, he’s more than proven that, he’s shown he can be a PL player as a water carrier and is adept at breaking up play - but in the summer if we can get a better quality defensive midfielder to take that role for him then we should.

Funny there’s no mention of the style we deployed under Steve Bruce, the rarely used ‘nee block’.

I just don’t understand the point in having him on. His opinions are so bad they don’t even get people wound up enough to respond in the way people like Simon Jordan do, it’s just utter drivel. -

Apparently Merson just said Arsenal had a better window than Newcastle, despite them not signing any players and losing Aubameyang for free. -

Interestingly he’s blaming the fans while ending by saying he only took the tweet down as his company asked him to while they investigated it . So it was possible he was headed for the bin anyway. I totally get Gem’s point about posting ropey stuff btw, I think the difference is he’s posting it from a verified account that notes he’s attached to that company so you’re always on for a shit time there tbh.
