I don't know what happens then. My hope would be that Fat Fred has learned from his last mistake. And I think Souness was his first appointment that was wrong right from the start. I don't blame him for appointing Dalglish, because he seemed perfect to make a winning team out of what KK had left over. I loved the appointment of Gullit because I adored him as a player and loved his idea of "sexy football". And only an idiot would say that appointing SBR was a bad idea. So don't trust in Fat Fred or have faith, but I hope he makes a sensible appointment again. I don't know who else than Bruce and Allardyce were approached last time. I fear Souness was in fact very high up the list anyway. If I were in the position I'd give the likes of Curbishley a thought, asking Keegan out of retirement. My very own idea and probably as a chairman I would get hung for is someone like George Burley who I think has loads of managerial potential. In another thread I already said that I am already writing this season off and would consider an interim solution. Probably not Roeder but again someone like Keegan could be asked to do a job for just ten months and prepare the ground for somebody to take over at the end of the season and give the club time to get a first choice manager. Anyway, whatever happens in my eyes it can't get worse than it is at the moment. P.S. Who was it again who started the it's not my job to find a replacement malarky? P.P.S. How come so many consider 1,000,000 pound (and more) as a tiny sum? Do some of those people have ever took part in contract negotiations (not only football related)?

It's just that I have it from a source I trust that Stuttgart were prepared to pay up to 7m Euro for him after the initial bid of a loan with an option to buy was rejected.

Which obviously can get classed as a protest. Not as a form of organised, but as a reflection of a dull game where people had nothing better to. But we also can have a lengthy discussion about the etymologie of the word "protest". * folds his arms and stamps with his foot in a huff *

Am I the only person who thinks Souness is alright

Make no mistake. I am in agreement about Parker and Emre if even I am not sure it was the right decision to sign two central midfield players before concentrating on other positions. Again, I don't really disagree. Though he couldn't be a worth signing compared to what sort of defenders walked in before. But I have still to see one really top performance that is anything close to Woodgate having a bad game... Unfortunately I can't see how a player who didn't set the world alight in the SPL and the Bundesliga where except of his first game he looked out of depths and pace can shine in the superiour english league. To compare him with Tomasson is absolutely nonsense in my opinion. JDT was a young boy and was asked to play in an unfavoured position where he had to replace the then best centre forward of the premiership. -
Well, I know a couple of German clubs who won't be too happy now because of what they were told by Fat Fred...

I have another idea. Why don't we all fold our arms and stamp with our feet in a huff simultanously. I think this would shake Fat Fred up....

Well, I loathed him before and alone to make my worst dreams come true have to consider him as a crap signing. Fair enough if he is going to prove me wrong and over night became a decent defender that is capable of more than at lashing out at other players. Maybe the pope becomes protestant too... Well, if you don't want to judge Moore before you have seen him, why judge Parker and Emre when they have not even played a handful of games... But at least they sound like great signings (so far). Boumsong was a decent signing. I haven't really seen an outstanding performance yet that is making him worth anything close to 8m though. -
Maybe you shouldn't have been so tight fisted and had invested 20p or so to use one of the Internet telephone boxes...

Why is it our money ? It isn't. Once you've bought something from the club, it's theirs. 16535 As a fact that is undeniable. However it can be argued that fans have pumped money in with the expectation that will actually spend some on players. While the board are entitled to spend that cash as they see fit, they should not be surprised if the supporters reciprocate by watching games in the pub from next season. 16570 Correct. But for me there are two things to seperate. 1) Fat Fred the greedy bastard who is taking money out of the club for his own benefit. This would be no problem is admitted he treating Newcastle just as a business and would not be branding himself as the biggest fan. 2) The other thing is Fat Fred as a chairman. I don't trust him and apparently the publicised balance sheets are not worth the paper they are printed on. Though so far every manager got the chance of (sort of) his own team under the regime of the obese pie-eater. In an ideal world the current frustration would lead to the forming of not only an Anti-Souness opposition, but a plan to kick the mole out of his office too. But for latter you need an opposition that not only consists out of some unhappy fans who refuse to buy tickets and merchandising products but an opposition that wants to and is capable to take over the running of the club. Except of the anonymous take over I haven't seen that kind of opposition yet.

That what annoys me about some people as well. I can't understand how many people are welcoming to pay over the odds for players. It's not that Newcastle are in the position of Chelsea paying 1m too much here 3m too much there. To me the figures that have been offered for those players we were after more than matched their value in the market. What I blame Sheepheart for is that he allowed us to look desperately and be held to ransom by not trying to do the deals at right point of time but when time is running away. And I am in no way sorry for Souness. Since January he provided a string of rubbish performances. He isn't able to demonstrate that the team is playing with a game plan and I don't think this would change if he had more strikers available for selection.

Just noticed that the ManUre game isn't sold out yet. That's a bit of a sad reflection of the current state of the club.

He's made some cracking signings. - So did SBR. And by the way, Emre hasn't even played more than one league game... He didn't sell Solano. - No, he sold Bellamy, Robert... He didn't buy Cort or Viana. - Babayaro, Faye, Moore... He stood up to the wankers who we were all pissed off with. - I wasn't Bellamy never scored anyway... - Wait, wasn't Bellamy that little Welsh gobshite that scored as many league goals as Shearer? -

Allegedly Ottmar Hitzfeld is in talks with Dynamo Kiev...

we've got shearer, ameobi, dyer and chopra. what's your problem.? 16382 Shearer's shit, Ameobi's shit, Chopra's shit and Dyer isn't really a striker. 16385 And just for the record: Dickov is shit as well. We certainly do have a striker problem, but the attacking play already starts in midfield. The lack of created chances isn't just down to an ageing Shearer but also to the non existence of a game plan.

Quotes from the Bayern representatives (Hoeneß and Rummenigge) about Lendoiro: "He is not serious." "He tried to con us." "He tried to blackmail Makaay." (Makaay had to abstain from one month wages Deportivo owed him so that the deal could go through.) "I have never witnessed such business conduct in 20 years. We will tell more about the conduct of Deportivo when we have the FIFA clearance for Makaay." and many more. While Lendoiro said: "They might have been good football players, but they don't know much about negotiations."

The thing is that if he had been our first target and we had made a bid for him a couple of weeks ago we probably wouldn't have got him. There were other clubs interested and I think he only turned his sight on playing for Newcastle because the transfer window is closing and the likes of Real Madrid chose other targets. Anyway knowing the Deportivo chairman I don't think we have heard the last word in this case. 16360 Your confidence with this is the only thing that's keeping me going at the moment. I may have to hunt you down and kill you though if it turns out to be unfounded 16363 Just put in the words "transfer" "saga" and "Lendoiro" into a search machine and you get plenty results especially concerning Makaay and Pandiani. I'm not saying Luque will end up in Newcastle but I am quite sure that this saga isn't already dead will provide more "entertainment".

Just two games into the season and I already have written off the season. Of course somebody new coming in won't be able to work wonders, though I think with installing some kind of tactics there still could be get something out of the team. Ideally I would like to see a high profile figure giving the job right now that in contrast comes in with a bonus. But I would also willing to see a interim solution until the end of the season.

Would Dickov be any worse than Shearer in his current form? 16242

Don't know transfer deals with the Depor president are always a on/off saga (remembering Makaay, Pandiani and a couple more). At least that's what I still hope. Otherwise we still can turn to Paul Dickov, can't we...
-
Don't you think you might feel less indifferent if we did win though? 16229 Probably, hopefully or whatever. At the moment there are so many ifs that I don't know anything anymore.

As much as I dislike Graeme Souness I don't think he is putting off players, at least not European players. Most of them simplay won't know about his reputation. And I also don't think that Fat Fred does have much of an impact on players unless he doesn't behave like a total idiot during negotiations (well thinking about it again...).

If not, you'll just have to look at your crotch for 90 mins...
