Yep, a shame that Barry blasted that penalty. At least you had got a new manager as birthday present then... Herzlichen Glückwunsch btw.

Looks like Shearer is turning from a hero to a scapegoat at the moment...

Postmatch quote from Souness: "I'm far happier because the team had a real go. "If you are a paying supporter, surely you realise you cannot win every game you are involved in, but the least you can hope for from your team is to give you 100%, and we got that today. Eh? Surely but is expecting to win games against the likes of Wigan reserves or Villa at home really to much to ask for? I'd actually rather have the team playing half arsened and win these games...

Alan Green was saying the same thing. Not sure whether he was playing devils advocate or not but he was saying more blame should be laid at the chairmans door (not just ours but in general) after all they hire, fire and sanction deals. Unfortunately no one pointed out how difficult it was to shift a chairman, especially when you're a PLC. 64193 I like the brutal honesty of Mourinho's quote about the demand of giving managers time being just a poor excuse for failure.

We will win. That is at least guaranteeing us another couple of weeks of being in the limbo...
-
It's funny how he is stating that not winning anything in 40 years cannot be down to pure bad luck, but himself is bemoaning bad luck after every poor result or injury.

Straight to the Trent. 63944 will definitely be there post match (and maybe with a newbie as well ) 63947 Toonlass-101?

I have finally reached the point where I definitely don't want Newcastle to win when it secures that the tosspot will be sacked. He won't turn the corner anymore, I am 100% sure of that. A win will only delay the inevitable.
-
He'd be my number one choice. 63554 Yep, I probably take him ahead of Hitzfeld as well, he is more forward thinking, though Hitzfeld is probably better getting the best out of his players of a short period of time.
-
Hmm, but it's not very easy to kick the pedals with only one leg...
-
For Hitzfeld I say again that he most likely won't take a job until after the World Cup. I still think that Newcastle would stand a decent chance as long as the ManUre job isn't up for grabs. My sensible scenario would be the following (if only I were in charge). Hitzfeld's long term assistant Michael Henke just got sacked at his first job where he was in charge of a team. Offer Hitzfeld to take over at the end of the season and so long stay in a general director role. Let his assistant take over the training alongside and the likes of Shearer and Roeder... Anyway, I think there are more sensible options. After the end of the World Cup qualifications managers like Morten Olsen are probably available, who I think could do a good job as well... and many more decent managers if you look beyond the river bank of the Tyne...

Well at least I now go to bed smiling...

There are 2 types of people in the world, those who remember Chayton and those who don't.

Which ones? Solano? (He was never replaced in the first place) Owen? (Bellamy was never going to play for the club again as long as Shepherd/Souness/Shearer were involved) Luque? (Robert said he was going - not that I think he was a direct replacement) Parker - Awesome buy Emre - Ditto Boumsong - we needed a CB - bought the wrong man I agree! Baba - ditto Faye - utter stupidity 63150 And has this reduced the wage bill (taking also Moore into account, though he might be paid via a health insurance)? I think that Souness signed some cracking players, partly on positions that needed improving, but becoming repetitive, I don't signing players makes a good manager. With notable exclusions I rather had the old squad and a decent manager... 63161 Yes, I agree. On paper we do have better players in some areas, for example in midfield in Parker and Emre, compared to the likes of Jeeenarse. But we have a worse team now. In fact, Souness has reduced the team to shite in a very short space of time. It's amazing really, what this man has managed to do. 63167 He's the only manager that could gather a better set of players than what he started with and transform them into serious relegation material. 63168 But, but, he saved us from relegation last season ... said Dougie. And apparently he is the one to save us from relegation this season...
-
That was the highlight for me. Since I've left Ireland a surprising amount of time on the phone talking to my brother about Eamon's latest antics. the man's a deluded prick but he's comedy gold. 63155 I think the best is how I really wants to say "it was Ron f***ing Little", but has despite his mental state a last bit of self control.

Ok, so why wait until next season then... 63121 Because I think it'll be more settled to do it in the summer - less impact on the team. Where Souness has gone wrong in my eyes is the way he depleted the size of the squad. We have no depth and consequently we've had injuries and no replacements in certain positions. What fucking angers me is we've had no explanation as to why so many were sold and not replaced. Was it all Souness or was he told to reduce the payroll from above? 63125 Reducing the payroll and then signing Emre, Parker, Luque and Owen instead of O'Brien, Hughes, Bellamy and Bernard? Eh? What are you on about? If Shearer (and I dread to think abouth this) is to be given the job then I think it's better now, because he is either doing good or at least can't do worse, so that we can say to him in the summer. Well, Alan thanks that you helped us in a difficult situation, but we rather have you gain some more coaching experience before you are ready for the job.

Ah now, DotBum, you can't be saying things like that! More Dunphyisms (from last Thursdays Fiver): Selected highlights of a row that broke out between Roy Keane's ghost writer Eamon Dunphy and fellow RTE pundits Liam Brady and John Giles during last night's coverage of Liverpool v Real Betis. ED: "Niall Quinn is a creep ... a joke ... The man is an idiot." ED: "Arjen Robben is a bird-brain." ED: "All [Cristiano] Ronaldo can do is fanny about." LB: "It was wrong of Keane to come out and criticise his fellow pros just so he could get a new contract", to which an apoplectic Dunphy retorted: "Get your facts straight. Henry's doing it, they all do it; last year Vieira fannied, flipped and flopped ... funny you forgot about that, Liam, with you working at Arsenal." ED (to presenter Bill O'Herlihy): "Who are you to call Roy Keane a thug?" BOH: "I didn't. It was in the Sunday Times." ED: "l tell you who said it, it was Rod Liddle. Let me tell you something about him, Bill. He left his wife and kid and ran off with some young one. That's the kind of guy he is." And, finally, ED: "I'll tell you what Roy Keane is: he's a gentleman. He is right about everything."

Well, I don't disagree. This is the ideal situation. Though Chelsea were in better situation then, weren't they? Even Ranieri (who I don't rate very highly) got them in the Championsleague. So they were under much less pressure. As long as managers like Le Guen are on the market, I think there can be found good and long term possibilites now. If not I am even prepared to give it to Shearer until the end of the season, or to Glen Roeder, or to the next person replying to this thread... 63100 Unfortunate 63106 Could have been worse, could have been you. Hitzfeld won't come now, he'll stick to his word. Who he is going to take over next season remains to be seen. But that isn't the question to me. For me it's to save this season, and I think that is possible with a new manager. The words from Dougie Hall about the certainity of Newcastle getting relegated under SBR are still ringing in my ears...

I do rate Lampard very much, but what has he done more than Ronaldinho? Both were instrumental in winning the respective championships with their clubs. Both players were involved in a pretty even tie in the CL. Both were important for their national teams, Ronaldinho won the Confederations Cup (which was surprisingly good this year). 63059 I'm not sure that Ronaldinho is as important to Barca as Lampard is to Chelsea. You say he was instrumental; I just don't think he was. 63067 Well, I admit that I only saw about 5-6 Barca games from La Liga this season, but still think he is the fix point of the team without whom they were only half the side they have been over the last 12 months.

Cos that will save the season won't it? Replace him in the summer, yes - sack him now? No way! 63060 Oh please do wake up and smell the coffee. There is a very real chance we could be playing in the Championship with we allow this wanker to stay incharge. 63071 There is a very real chance we could be playing in the Championship if we sack him now as well! 63080 Sorry, but I think that is a bit absurd. Maybe you are mixing up cause and effect? Souness isn't the one saving us from relegation, but the one taking us down into a position where with a very good squad this prospect looks a possibility.

Cos that will save the season won't it? Replace him in the summer, yes - sack him now? No way! 63060 Sorry, but the season is already faltering now. We are just out of a mickey mouse competition were the likes of Arsenal field players I've never heard of before. Newcastle is losing against the second string of a freshly promoted team. I could understand that people were saying that last season had to be written off after Souness took over and with all the malarky that was involved. But can Newcastle accept two seasons getting written off in succession? There is still the chance to get a half decent position in the league, but I don't think it will be achieved with this tosser in charge. The FA Cup is taken more seriously by the big teams, and I don't see us having a chance with the tosser in charge. We can't do worse in appointing the next manager, so I think it should be done immidiately.
