  1. Yeah I agree Shelvey doesn't help, I actually think Ki keeps possession better when he's on his game, which unfortunately isn't regularly enough. Getting the ball up to Rondon quickly might have made some sense but what are we doing now? Shelvey doesn't play every game and you can probably look over the last 3 seasons and we'll barely have a game that we had the lions share of possession. So if we have players capable keeping possession why don't we? Like you I think we need a good defensive midfielder.
  2. I actually agree with a lot of what Wilder said. When he says it after his team didn't play to the whistle, something you're told to do at school let alone when you're a professional footballer, and they've thrown away a game, it just sounds like sour grapes. VAR is still shite and will kill the game.
  3. I can't say that I've seen any evidence of our midfield being able to keep the ball mind. If they can why aren't they? Have Rafa's and now Bruces tactics been to purposely give away possession? Sean Longstaff maybe the one who could change this but not alongside Hayden.
  4. Had he good sense not to support them though. RIP. Seems like he was a really good bloke too.
  5. Aye Root doesn't seem to be a very good captain. Some of his field set ups and use of bowlers seems to be way off. It's difficult to imagine who else could replace him though. We've got quite a few players now (the openers, Denly, Pope, Curran, Archer) who are very inexperienced when it comes to international cricket and I'm not sure if any of them have ever captained a team. The leaves Broad who would certainly waste all our DRS appealing his own balls, Stokes or Butler as options. There's not an obvious replacement there.
  6. Was actually a good game for once. They play some decent football and were all over us for the first 30 minutes or so but we dug in a played some good football ourselves after that. Almiron managing to hit ASM was comical. I'm beginning to feel sorry for the fucker now, it's not like he's doing a massive amount wrong when he's getting these chances, most of the time he hits the target (albeit without any great power) and if it had been anyone else they'd have had at least a couple by now. He needs a goal like Clark's, if he'd hit that well the keeper probably would have saved it. And in case I've not mentioned it before, VAR is the worst thing that's happened to football since Hillsborough. The celebrations for Yedlin's goal were muted because everyone was waiting for it to be given offside and then we had to wait for ages in the dark without a clue what was going on behind the scenes. It's without doubt going to ruin the atmosphere at games all over the world. And then as was proved yet again yesterday at Anfield, they can't come up with the right decision regardless. Fucking shite!
  7. It wasn't a particularly bad challenge but he lost control which was why his foot went up at the end caught the player. The way the rule makers have changed things for the worse, that's a sending off now.
  8. I did wonder if that ending was a bit dramatised mind. This is based on the brothers own book so I would have assumed they would have got to that stage before the book was released. Maybe the book doesn't reveal everything the film does though.
  9. The synopsis of it gives a lot more away than I have.
  10. Yeah I think that's the only way they could do it, if they could do it well. I watched Tell Me Who I Am last night on Netflix. Documentary about a bloke who was in a bike accident and couldn't remember anything except his twin brother. His brother told him about their happy family lives but it turns out he lied and there was a dark secret in their past. I was fairly obvious what the basic issue in their past was going to be but when it's actually revealed it's more than I could have imagined. It's a really interesting story and quite horrific. Not exactly a Friday night blockbuster but I'd definitely recommend it.
  11. Seen the new Terminator film last night. Comfortably the best since T2 which isn't a great surprise since its the first one since then that's had Linda Hamilton (who looks fucking old now by the way). Being the best of the rest Terminator film doesn't necessarily mean that much given the quality of the others but this is certainly a decent effort. The guy playing the terminator this time around isn't as menacing as Arnie in the original or Robert Patrick in T2 and I'm not really sure the new technology makes any sense whatsoever or is of much use, but the female leads and Arnie make up for all that. Unfortunately I can't see there ever being a great Terminator film again. I think the technological leap in the terminator in T2 meant that he was so close to invincible that it becomes really difficult to create a story and wow factor that can ever live up to the first two films. Camerons involvement improved this one and if he were to direct again then that might lift it a bit but I doubt that will ever happen.
  12. I thought this felt like a stand alone story personally. The rest of the Batman universe isn't really relevant to it. Bruce Wayne's father is a significant character in this story and there is a scene right near the end that I suppose could lead this on to tying up with Batman but the rest of it could have pretty much taken place within a world completely separate.
  13. I worry we'll be calling him the new Lualua in the future. He's a definitely threat but his decision making looks like it leaves a lot to be desired. Hopefully I'm wrong though. I thought Schar was class yesterday. Admittedly he lost Slabhead when he should have scored but he made 3 class interventions to stop certain goals for them.
  14. Enjoyed Joker a lot. I thought it was a bit slow for the first 40 minutes or so but Phoenix was superb. After that it cranks up a notch. More like a cross between Taxi Driver and King of Comedy than any other comic book film that's gone before it. Surely there's been multiple origin stories for the Joker character? Jack Nicholson's version had an origin and the Killing Joke (which I think this film takes some bits from) given an origin to him. The fact that none of these origins taken as the definitive one means you don't really lose any of the mystery,
  15. I don't think you can really keep both of them in the team if Butler is going to bat at 7 and not take the gloves. The solution has to either be Butler keeping and Bairstow at 5 or Bairstow keeping at 7 and Butler not in the team. Of course you could Argue that Foakes should keeping whatever is decided with those two.
  16. The possible problem you have with limiting Stokes to just batting is he seems to want to be involved all of the time and this inspires him to do better. If you took the bowling away from from (which I realise you're not totally suggesting) would his batting actually suffer. Totally agree about Bairstow and Buttler though, they need to be deserving of their spot as batsmen on merit and they've both only averaged mid 20's this series. At the moment I don't think you can justify them both being in the team.
  17. I'm not much of a horror fan either. I thought the best aspects of the two films were the friendships between the kids. Those bit were a bit like Stand By Me and much more interesting. Watched Booksmart the other night. Billed as a sort of female Superbad. I don't think it was a regularly funny as the likes of Superbad but it did have some really funny stuff in it and was boosted by a cracking Dan The Automator soundtrack.
  18. It Chapter 2. Another film that's a good hour too long. It's ok but just like the first part you can spot the jumps coming a mile off. How it's getting five star reviews is beyond me.
  19. Can't see anything online about Hameed retiring, just about the release from Lancashire. He's actually averaged towards 30 this season which isn't great but is a massive improvement on his 9 from last season. Durham are still struggling with their batting so maybe they can take a punt on him. Canny drop of Root by Siddle.
  20. Surely it's a good thing that they don't do convincing brummie accents? It's comfortably the worst accent in the world.
  21. Should the main core of players be the same though? Is picking too many white ball players instead of red ball specialists weakening our test team? Or is it just that we don't have the quality in red ball players. We'd hoped the likes of Stoneman, Jennings and Hameed would come through and be fixtures in the test team but they've not been able to step up.
  22. There's not many batsmen showing it at test level at the moment, whether that's down to conditions, bowler or (my personal belief) the focus on white ball cricket around the world meaning batsmen aren't used to playing the way they need to. As Stokes said, the flip side of that is we're able to see innings like he produced at Heddlingley. Mind the way it's going we aren't going to be able to see the first part of that innings from many players. I definitely think we should be splitting the red and white ball coaching duties. I don't blame the ECB for focusing on white ball these past few years because winning the world cup was massive for us, but it does feel somewhat overdone when you look at how are test team are performing now. And what happens now? Do we switch it back around and lose our standing as the top odi team or fail to prepare for the T20 world cup? Surely having someone focusing on the white ball game solely would be the better option. Obviously they need to be looking at the make up of the county championship season too but with the hundred starting next year I don't imagine there's going to be any immediate changes with the program.
  23. Don't think the weather will save us. We need Stokes to dig in for another 300 balls.
