Glad to see Scotland winning. European Championships and more so the World Cup are both enhanced with Scottish sides fans involved.

Since until 1996 we didn't have a professional league in my country (OK we did but there was no coverage and there was no team within 2000 miles of my home) I was forced to become primarily a fan of the National Team. Since then my loyalties currently lie with my hometown club, then the USA, then Newcastle, then whoever is playing Italy, then whoever is playing England.
-
If he'd gone elsewhere where he'd been first choice at any of the multiple opportunities he's had to do so, I fully believe he would be in the England squad. Depending on form and performance, he could have been anywhere in the mix (1-3.) As it is, though, unless he goes somewhere for first team football, he'll never have to chance.
-
So where do people think he will end up? What jobs are open? (and high profile enough) Who might pay enough to interest him? Who might he fancy building with? Portugal? One of the Italian clubs? Barca? I'm actually going to suggest the USA even though I think it's extremely unlikely. The only thing that got me thinking was that the USSF announced that they were looking to appoint a sort of "Director of Football" position for the national team program. They've certainly got the money, and the anonymity he might want after the whole English tabloid treatment....

Italy regain top spot in FIFA world rankings

Hooray! Five straight defeats and we break into the top 20! -
Was it really a plane though? For the towers? Yes. For the Pentagon.... who knows?

Once again, I have to ask what's the harm of having the armband pass between the players who are most suited to wearing it on a particular day? IIRC Shearer Lee and Beardsley shared it in 1996/7...

If anyone cares, he's signed for Racing Santander. I think it's a terrific move for the player, even if Sam might have gotten some good performances out of him. I think the Spanish League is a really good place for him.
-
From a reporter from over here who is usually reliable, but is also known to be particularly less reliable when it comes to Szetela in particular: Perhaps he's signed with Willie McKay?
-
I've never been impressed by him based largely on his MLS career. Yeah, he's had injuries but even when he was playing he was disappointing. Although partly that might have been playing for such a shitty club (Columbus.) The Crew have gotten better over the last year and a half and his playing time has gone down over that period. However he looked terrific at the U20's and so perhaps he just hasn't fit in at that club. It might be worth noting that there have been a number of mediocre (or worse) MLS players who have gone on to perform at least servicably in the Premier League.

Pay. There was actually an academic study that showed that the guy paying has a positive effect on your chances of a second date.

Americans appear to scream "goal" rather than "get innnnnnnnn" like over here interesting Meh, it's a Telefutura broadcast, i.e. Spanish Language. Englishman. American game. Spanish Announcer. Perfect. :-p

That'd be the "World" Cup then I expect. (I thought they'd only played 2-3 in their season so far and lost them all [LAG is a pretty shit team even by their standards] - probably wrong though) They have about 5 games in hand though thats why they are sitting near the bottom this is because most of the games where moved to the 2nd half of the season so that Beckham can play in them. All though as you say they have been fairly pish and I think their Win against DC was their first against the "top" teams. The cup is the 4 best teams in the MLS and the 4 best teams from Mexico, think this is its first year. Not quite. It's the four "most popular" teams from each league. They just sort of picked the eight competitors, nothing to do with standings or anything. It's called the "Super Liga" and promises to actually be a useful competition if they actually make a merit-based qualification system....

Bellamy, Dyer and Bowyer. Hope they've got good physios. And insurance.

Actually the law school is only about 200 yards further from that bridge than my flat and about 3/4 of a mile closer than my current place of employment! But thanks. You just like living dangerously, admit it! Teetering on the edge....
-
Decent job my monkey-loving half-uncle's bad right hip! When I leave law school I can expect a 2-300% higher salary, and I won't be going insane every day.

.... Then I have a week off and start Law School. It hasn't quite come home yet that I won't be sitting here at this desk that has been my home for the last three years anymore. I doubt I'll have nearly as much time to spend on here either; I hardly spend any time on this site at home.

Seriously, how has this man got himself into a position where he's actually in charge of something? Is it not obvious? Jack Warner is among the most corrupt members of FIFA, and that's really saying something. He was indicted for fraud when all of the TnT allocated tickets to the world cup disappeared and could ONLY be bought through hugely expensive packages from his (son's) travel agency. The USSF hates him, the MFF hates him, the Canadians hate him, but he's got the support of the Carribean.

Christ, imagine being on the other bridge when it happened. The gray building on the upper left corner of the picture right next to the left side bridge is where I live.

Now reporting 5 confirmed dead and only 8 missing. It's a miracle if only 13 people died in that.

I used to have a Hamilton top.

South India is much more pleasant than north India, you'll have a blast. Just don't spend too many weekends in Goa.

The bridge had known deficiencies since 1990, not 2001. The report from 2001 cited some stress and "danger of fatigue cracking due to corrosion" but still concluded that it wouldn't need to be replaced until about 2020, although they recommended yearly detailed inspections (these began in May this year.) About 8% of bridges in this state are rated the same as that bridge was (compared to 13% nationally) and it doesn't necessarily mean that it's unsafe, just that it will need repair or replacement in the not too distant future. There was actually a proposal to reinforce the structure of the bridge earlier this year by bolting metal plates to it, but it was dismissed as too expensive. In a state where the governor has campaigned on a platform of "no new taxes" for seven years, the department of transportation has lacked any kind of a repair budget for about a decade.
