  1. Is it just me or is the only actual quote in that story a complete denial from an AEG exec?
  2. I asked for a Thunder badge almost three years ago. Even made one up to save gol the effort. Still nothing. Why do you guys like Steve so much better than me? Is it a case of the prodigal son?
  3. Glen Johnson Kieran Dyer Damien Duff
  4. The Hunt MLS sides have been on a significant and rapid decline since we lost Lamar.
  5. So can I just put a in this post and people will know what I mean or has it been too long since I made a "You have dentists in England?" joke?

  7. You could just read the Bible I suppose. Bit wordy. You read Bible. First thing that's made me laugh out loud in days. Thanks Alex. . I'm trying to remember a time when Jesus of Nazareth actually claimed to be the son of God or any-such. The closest that I can recall in the re-tellings of the story from his disciples is his not denying it when they asserted it. My recollection of his teachings is also more along the lines of a fundamental belief of honoring your fellow man being the way to "a better life" in "the world to come," not necessarily meaning that it must be done in service to any kind of a God. To be sure Matthew states that when asked which was the greatest of the commandments Jesus responded : "'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' "On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets. (Matthew 22:36-40). It seems to me that the first is relatively meaningless as it has little to do with the way one actually lives ones' life. The way you honor the first he taught was the honor the second. Also, I still think it telling that the man was basically nailed to a cross for saying be nice to each other. What real threat was there to the establishment in his teachings that led to their great fear? Merely his popularity? Or was it really that if the establishment truly incorporated his teachings which were hedged within the language of religion they would destroy the organization as it stood and eliminate the need for established leaders?
  8. can't place the second two, 1st one is cool runnings Middle one is from the Three Amigos.
  9. His brother was the manager of the Puerto Rico Islanders for a while. We would wind him up incessantly with chants of "You'll never be Diego" or similar. In the end he totally lost it, tried to get into the stands to have a little bit of todo with some supporters and got himself fined by the league. If Diego's half as good at managing as he's been at fucking up his life the last twenty years Argentina will be unbeatable.
  10. Pulling an all-nighter to work on a Comment on a new F.D.A. Regulation. Quotes that make me smile at the moment: "I see Pride! I see Power! I see a Bad ass mother who won't take no crap off of nobody!" "Would you say I have a plethora?" "I believe you have my stapler."
  11. First try this. Then this:
  12. It's not a cube then though. TBF a straight line would have sufficed. The whole cube thing has confused Fop. Yes, but a line is not a three-dimensional example. Why would the universe expand in two directions only if that is what you're saying? I'm not saying that this example is one that describes the way in which our universe behaves; it's only an analogy to show the possibility of an infinite, yet bounded area. An object could be expanding in 359.999999 of the 360 degrees on both the vertical and horizontal planes, but it would still leave a gigantic area that is not included if you extend it far enough.
  13. Infinite is not the same as all-encompassing. Imagine a cube. Now take off the top and bottom. Imagine the space in the cube expanding infinitely upwards and downwards. This is infinite without encompassing the areas to the north, south, east and west of the cube.
  14. Glad to see you're still lurking, Zath. Good stuff Cheers. Law school is pretty much taking up all of my time at the moment, but I have hopes that in January things will settle down a bit. Still manage to get on here at least every-other day and see what's going on. The club is rather depressing at the moment, but doesn't mean I'm not following along.
  15. Maybe it's not funny per se, but I can't keep from thinking of captioning it "It can't be wrong if it feels so right"
  16. No he wasn't..... He wasn't? I thought he was a free transfer from Blackburn?
  17. Rob Lee is hard to argue with But Given was actually on a free, which makes the ratio better.
  18. It's hardly cheating. If I spend £50k developing a drug, I have to defray the costs of the development: research, trials etc. If I can't protect the investment of capital that is placed in research, the drug factory down the street can produce the pills for a smaller cost because they've externalized the development costs. How does allowing company B to make the drugs without having to develop them not discourage me from spending the £50k in the first place when I can't recoup that cost through sales?
  19. Yes, but the research that created those innovations wouldn't have happened if those "greedy corporations" didn't have the incentive of future profits in order to fund the research....
  20. The verdict probably needs to be deferred until we've seen the new kids play. If they're owt like the ones we've already signed then the verdict will be that this is our most promising, step-in-the-right-direction transfer window in years. Wouldn't you agree? cop-out Is that it then, Leazes? Is that all we're getting from you? I've gone for the careful, considered response to signing two players that I know fuck all about in response to a question you asked, and all I get in terms of discussion is "cop-out". What's your reaction? bloody hell Gem lad you've lost your sense of humour I didn't realise you were joking. What would your reaction be though? I don't think that the club will be successful if they continue down this path with every signing. There comes a point where you need to pay the going rate for top proven players. Why else do you think ManU, Chelsea, Liverpool do it Like Jobby says (I mistyped that to start off with, but I have decided not to correct it ), Coloccini is a pretty big signing, and at the minute we need to build a squad of capable players. If we keep improving the squad in the same way that we have with the Coloccini/Guttierez signings then I don't really care how much they cost or whether they're "top proven players". Even the top proven players were relative nobodies at one stage in their careers. While I agree with both of your points here, I think that the likelihood that we as a club are going to be the ones uncovering the top players through unimpressive transfers is small. Even in his first stint Keegan wasn't exactly the best at spotting young talent and bringing it through; he was more a buy the finished product kind of manager. That being said, he knew how to build the squad slowly, bringing in guys like Kilcline and Paul Bracewell along with the likes of Rob Lee to keep the squad large enough with "replacement level" players (to take a phrase from Baseball--as an American ) so that he wouldn't break the bank signing a full squad all at once without risking having to unready play youth players in case of injury. (Even without a reserve set up) Keegan's not the one doing the talent spotting this time around though. He's got some well-connected types doing that for him from what I can gather. Fair enough, I suppose, but I still feel that clubs like ManU, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea have much more infrastructure around the world to spot these players coming along. It seems odd to me the amount of NUFC kits I see in the US (Even here in the Twin Cities there were 50+ to watch the opening day match and we actually outnumbered the ManYoo fans) while NUFC doesn't have much of a presence here. I'm not sure the partnerships with MLS sides is really helping either side, but there are substantially greater presences here by other clubs, even clubs as small as Burnley and Crystal Palace.
