They can't afford to splash the cash to buy survival, they haven't an underperforming core that a new manager could spur to safety, they don't have saleable assets to raise cash and they're rock bottom, so it's not like with a couple of unlikely results they can get a bit of a gap. At the same time, they're so riddled with debt, they can't, in all good conscience, accept relegation and plan for a rebuild in the same way as someone like Burnley or Norwich could. Normally you'd say relegation could be an opportunity to get rid of the mercenaries (as Villa and ourselves managed), a chance to consolidate and rebuild with a better vision of what they're after.
