  1. £15m adjusted for football inflation is £222m. Shearer, not for the first time, is wrong. Neymar went for £200m in 2017.
  2. Well I'll Brie. I showed this to my son and Edam near cried laughing.
  3. Yeah, that's the ill-defined point I was trying to make. They make money from selling players, they pull in enough money from commercial deals, selling themselves hotels and car parks and all that. In terms of PSR I think they're fine. Which is, in and of itself, a damning indictment of the PSR regulations.
  4. Well, according to Capology (which I don't take as gospel by any means), they're spending at least £200m on wages a year. Their commercial revenue is around £210m, total revenue around £500m. So they're spending 40% of their revenue on wages alone.
  5. The stuff he does at the Trump rallies is particularly good.
  6. You couldn't kick the arse of a bare bottomed midget on a clear day with a fair wind. Whoever suggested you hold any ground on here was either a) taking the piss, or b) woefully mistaken.
  7. I know it's pretty blinkered of me, but whenever I see that CT has dared stray into Football Chat I immediately think "Well, this is going to be utter bollocks". So far this prejudice has been utterly and categorically earned, but still, I think I need to work on that.
  8. Minteh represented a much bigger PSR profit than either of them.
  9. It's not necessarily a fuck up. End of the day, the PSR has fucked all ambitious clubs, but unlike Villa and Brighton and the rest we've been poorly managed since 2007. Selling Minteh wouldn't have been the issue, we'd have made a fortune selling all manner of shitcunts over the years. Instead, we have to sell a promising fringe player not because the new owners have necessarily made a mistake, but because of a crippling injury record last season and over a decade of negligence and poor transfer business.
  10. He'd have to be Van Dijk at Southampton quality for us to be talking about £70m being anything but an overspend. I was fine, even positive, on the move at the rumoured £60m fee. But I'll freely admit that was as much out of desperation for a signing, as it was an evaluation of his quality. Calafiori, Yoro, De Ligt, Adarabioyo, Max Kilman all moved for less than Guehi's reported valuation, this window.
  11. Had Guehi moved for £70m to Liverpool or Man City, that's one thing. But nobody else seems interested at that price, so why should we pay it? Especially as it's not like the kid is the new Maldini or owt. He's top half of the PL standard, but he's not better than Botman who is much more highly rated and who we got for 1/2 the price.
  12. You'd assume he'd be on lower wages too.
  13. You 'gotta' double check your fucking attitude. I create these things out of the clear blue sky, package and present them, and this is the thanks I get? Go find a video of a heavily bandaged man pirouetting to no avail and get to waving at the little boatman, you pervert.
  14. Good catch. Something's fucked in the logic. Let me check. Edit - Turns out it was pulling from the wrong table.
  15. That will be tied up with the rumours about the England job.
  16. Put it this way, if we can get a Gordon/Barnes standard player ont he right flank, we're immeasurably more dangerous going forward. And with worse players than we have now, we had the joint meanest defence in the league 2 seasons ago. I think a coach can have more impact on a defensive unit, bringing them up to a higher standard than they naturally are. More impact than the same coach can have at the top end of the pitch where natural talent makes more of a difference. I'm not explaining myself well, I know. But a €60-70m attacker makes more of a difference to our ambitions, than a €60-70m defender would.
  17. Botman should be back December/January, so we've 4 players for 2 positions. Plus any kids that are able to step up, there were a couple of U21s who got minutes at the back in preseason.
