Good job they've got shit strikers who can't finish for toffee. I use the stats from Fbref, they have Everton (14.7) just behind Man City (14.9). But Everton have scored 9 and Man City have 17. We have 17.3 xg and 20 Goals, by the way. -
Posts as Gene Clark, very occasionally. Real name is Ian Cusack.

That's the risk of the 'model'. Anyone who wants to copy Brighton and Brentford's approach has to understand that the key to it being successful is that you need to recruit for two steps down the path, all the time. And every transfer is a gamble, even if you have great analysts, great scouts and so on., it's still a gamble. Say you're Ipswich, you need to buy undervalued players who will deliver Premier League survival, because if you sign players who can get you promoted, you'll likely need to replace them when you succeed. That's incredibly difficult. Ipswich likely don't have the resources to hire the best analysts, or provide for them the best resources. They likely can't afford the best scouts, or afford to send them all over the world to unearth the next big thing. Brighton have made it look easy, but it's really not. Just a thought, but was this easier for Brighton because they've been operating in this way since Bloom took over? They've consistently been 2-3 steps ahead of every other team they're ostensibly competing with since League 1.

I dunno if it's great. Some weird phrase choices like "Flekken in the Brentford goal is the football equivalent of a social hand grenade, liable to explode at any second." Why a social hand grenade? Why not just a hand grenade? A social hand grenade refers to someone who's likely to say something, do something that will immediately destroy any social situation. It doesn't need that extra layer. Also, he rightly criticises the mackems for saying the lad who got stabbed in Milan deserved it, then hopes for someone with a chainsaw to go after the bloke behind No Saudi Toon. He's got a broad vocabulary and sometimes he uses it well, but that piece was rambling and had an underlying tone of anger and bitterness.

Dunno where they're getting their date from, but I have us 4th for xG against per 90. (1.02) Also, if you ignore penalties, Liverpool drop to 5th for xG. Behind Everton. If games were played on the spreadsheet, we'd be 2nd, behind Man City

It's way more likely to be a version of A, in my view. I don't think we're going to shift too far from our current style, but we will see more of the ball. And when we do, we'll need better technicians on the pitch. Last season so many of our good chances came from the triangles made on the right by Almiron, Trippier and Bruno. I think Tonali has been bought to take Bruno's place on that flank to allow him either to try and build that same threat on the left with Gordon and Burn/Hall, OR play more in the centre of the attack. Bruno is currently playing as our defensive midfield cover when his best work is done further up the pitch. I think Bruno and Tonali ahead of an out and out DM would allow us to press, have multiple areas of threat and continue our high intensity pressing game. Tonali is not a defensive midfielder, not even to the standard being set by Bruno currently.

I've been trying to think of which Premier League player he reminds me of and I'm struggling. He's definitely not a true blue defensive midfielder. He's no David Batty. Plays on the right of a midfield 3, can drive with the ball, works hard, good solid technical ability, looks for killer balls, operates in that space just outside the corner of the box looking for through balls or crosses. Maybe like an Odegaard? I dunno.
