So basically it's ambiguous if you have to quickly tot something up in your head? You are making a strong case against me here, I must admit, though maybe somewhat unintentionally. Actually selling them at 14p per banana doesnt really give you an accurate price per pound or kilo
-
It's really not. I'm saying what I think, as much as I don't want to, in this instance. Can you clarify to me that you don't think it should be mandatory for shop keepers to use accurate scales and quote the cost of bananas in a standard unit? If you agree they should have to do this, do you think those should be metric or imperial units, or both? Or can they do what they like without state interference, and it's a case of buyer beware? Are you genuinely having an argument about weighing bananas? Anybody can see that whilst on the surface we are talking about bananas it is obviously a metaphor A who's got the biggest banana thing? Renton likes to work in centimetres as the smaller units make his seem larger. Dotbum is confident enough to stick with the larger imperial units despite them being a higher divisor. I find both of their bananas laughable apparently

No, I don't think it should be mandatory, I think any business man with good business sense would accept standards set by some sort of union/group with a seal of approval which a customer would look for. I would also differentiate between the small local grocer - a human being, and a large corporation - a legal entity in its own right which has far too much power over a community which is not vigilant enough as it feels it's being looked after. I'm sorry if that idea is so absurd as to be laughable to some, maybe I need to work on breaking things down better, but I will continue to believe that those people need to widen their viewpoint and level of understanding. I think there is something in here that I agree with, but I think your defence of the small business man obscures it. Why differentiate between them and the corporation, they should all be required to hld to the same set of rules, with the customer who is the one to receive protection.

I think that wanting the general public to become more aware, educated and empowered is a standpoint I would be happy to support and encourage, but to think that you are likely to promote this by letting a barrow boy rip off pensioners is laughable.

I dont feel any clarification is needed. Assume away

Would it not be possible for people to say - you're taking the piss - go back to their council and organise a boycott until he stops taking the piss? Hence they would be able to fend for themselves when issues like this innevitably arose when there was no-one there to protect them? Or would people not have the choice to say, well his prices take the piss, but I still shop there for the banter. Allowing them to make their own decision based on the evidence. ok lol. Let us protect the right of the hard working con man to rip off the public, because the nation will benefit in at least two ways general raising of the iq due to the problem solving techniques that will need to be employed and an increase in community action leading to improved relations and a common bonding Makes perfect sense

Because he doesnt want to "run his business into the ground selling only the lefty-hand side of cabbages" he wants to rip off unsuspecting punters, which is what the law is trying to prevent
-
I didn't say I would be able to figure it out, I said that I thought pretty much everyone had the ability to. If you think that the majority of people are genuinely too thick for basic maths and awareness skills, I'd be interested to hear why. I think they have ended up that way, not that they were meant to end up that way. I think it's a bad thing because people are increasingly babied and the majority never take any responsibility for themselves, leaving them increasingly vulnerable when they can't be protected. We're all getting fucked by major corporations because they have the strenth to dodge these laws and the people don't know how to cope. And what happens when the babied citizens get fucked by their government, who protects them then? Seperate issue tbh

How to speak Radgie lesson one shitting a brick + spitting feathers = spitting bricks

I think that assumption's half the problem tbh. the mind boggles at how stupid some people can be, but I've never met someone who couldn't understand simple guidelines on not getting ripped off, at the very least they could "phone a friend". It's more laziness than anything else, and if they can't be arsed, maybe they should suffer the consequences. I know if I don't check on the internet before I buy a product I pretty much blame myself if it goes wrong. I am sure you would be able to work it out, but you are not the one who needs to be protected. I dont really now why you consider a bad thing to try and prevent people getting ripped off

Having Shepherd in the sights of a gun just shows a lack of sense. If the site ever gets any publicity it will immediatly lose credibilty. Naive and useless tbh

Separate issue; unless we want to throw the looney shopkeeper out with the bath-water. Its not really a seperate issue, its basicaly about transparency and standardisation of pricing so Joe Punter can easily see how much he is paying for his banana. The whole metric martyr shebang was just a bit of whipped up europe bashing tosh t try nad make an issue where there wasnt one

Its intended to stop the unscrupulous spiv ripping off the unwitting public

Renton is right on this one, the bloke was just being a wanker

606 Was superb when he used to do it, it is unlistenable now. The stuff with Joanne was magnificent. He does an afternoon show on Radio London at the moment which is good value as well. I cant stand him on the tv but on the radio he is always worth a listen

I think that's harsh, Hughes was average and not the player to take us to the next level, but he wasn't rubbish. Bramble is rubbish, Carr is rubbish, but Hundy Griffin. ghes worst crime was being O.K. He was versatile and strong enough, quick enough and sharp enough. What I really understand was we sold him for a nominal fee and there simply was no gain in selling him. He hasn't been replaced by a youthful promise, but an average older version of Andy Griffin. Makes no sense what-so-ever. No, let us not be diverted, Hughes was rubbish, certainly no better than Brambe et al
