Partyng on NYE is for teenagers, secretaries and the socially inept only. Definitely amateur night. I live ten minutes from the sea, so its possible we might take a walk down and watch the fireworks. I have got a shitload of booze in the house though, and I am planning on giving up for a while, so I will probably get bladdered, knock on all the neighbours doors, and yadder on drunkenly to them for a couple of hours. I havent spoken to them since last year, I dont think they like me. I hope they've got some decent booze in

I vaguely remember a story about Brian Clough where one of his players was knocked out on the pitch, the trainer told Clough "Hell have to come off, he cant even remember his own name" Clough replied "Tell him he is George Best and send him back on"

It might or it might not, is that a risk we can afford to take right now ? Any new manager has to deal with the unique and frenzied atmosphere of the city as well as understanding the expectations. Shearer at least will have that experience. He'd also be able to command respect of the players. I think he's a pretty smart guy too, I can't see him making too many basic tactical mistakes, but I also don't believe he'd try and over complicate things. Lastly until he's given a go, any manager will be living in his shadow the moment results go pear shape. thats pretty much what I think I also think if he is going to be a good manager anwhere it is here. Poving himself at Wrexham or wherever is a laughable idea. I think we need to give at a go and see what happens

Anybody know about music software
spongebob toonpants replied to spongebob toonpants's topic in General Chat
I was hoping to get something for 50/60 quid, I have no idea how feasible that is though His PC shouldnt be a problem, he has got untold hard drives and ram for these game things the kids seem so keen on -
I need help with buying some music software for my sons christmas present He is 16 and has inherited my passion for music, and I am pleased to say my musical education as he grew up has paid off as he has impeccable taste, a lot of early punk, Clash Buzzcocks Undertones, and the American bands that inspired punk, Stooges Mc5 NYDolls, he bloody loves Johnny Thunders, Primal Scream ,Muse(well nobodies perfect} He plays guitar is in acouple of bands, including an online collaboration with some americans, who fancy having him as vocalist. To be blunt his singing aint as good as his guitar playing and I was wondering if there was any sort off vocal tuning software available that any of you muso types might be able to recomend. If it comes with some sort of online mixing/recording package so much the better. Realising how little I know about this stuff is making me very old - so any help would be greatly appreciated.

The fact that nobody seems to be suitable as captain might help explain why we have had so many lack lustre displays this season. We are missing leaders on the pitch. Ive always thought the captains role was pretty much honorary, and doesnt really affect how a player peforms, but our lack of candidates highlights a real weakness in the team. If Barton had been here longer, regained last years form, stayed out of trouble and out of prison (and lost the scouse accent he) I think he has the potential to be captain, but he had been here longer and regained last years form he would be performing the role captain or not. Meh, just give it to Owen so we can hate him even more when he leaves.

Not the Baines chap I hope. Older than Leazes Mag that now Jon, you're a southern toon fan, and you know fine well what I'm saying is true, but if ever there was a message board fence sitter it was you, as not to offend your net mates. I can't see why the club are asking ANY message board for this sort of info. Lets face it, the vast majority of fans DON'T use message boards. All of us do - obviously - but how many out of 50,000 use them, quite a lot of us use them because we live away from home and want to keep up with the gossip. It should be quite easy to get these figures, the club has logged the sale of away tickets for many years, there is no need to ask anybody, not even Mark Jensen, Keith Barrett. If they did, they would be given a much better estimate than 1500 too. Don't mean to criticise Mort, but his comments about spending money in january, and now this ....... they seem to be pretty naive about what football is all about. I agree whole heartedly. The fact they're asking a message board where over half the people don't even go, and even fewer go to away games, well it beggars belief. When you've stood on cold terraces at Southend on New Years Day, seeing your team lose 4-0, I think you will know something about the toon and their support. Sitting behind a PC in Leeds, Preston, Glasgow, Edinburgh or whereever having been to less games than the fingers on your right hand, I just feel cheated that they actually think a message board is the true voice of the support. By the state and inebriation of that last train home on Saturday. Mark Jensen, Kevin Miles type figures should be the people being consulted, not gauging opinions off a website where the average age is about 20, and there are more posts about favourite kind of crisps than football. with a twelve o'clock kick-off iirc [\sooperfan status] Its a good sign they are trying to establish lines of communication with the fans, even if they have chosen the boneheads from N-O

So, by actually going to the match I missed the best part of the game? Schoolboy error
-
I thonk everybody is missing the best part of the whole performance, Joey Barton's post match interview. An absolute masterclass. Amongst many highlights " a W is a W" and a magnificent use of "late doors". How any TV viewer could come away disapointed is a mystery to me

Bah cheer up you miserable lot. Its an away win in London, Ill take it. Lets hope it builds a bit of confidence.

Never had you down as a straw man before. Expect better from you tbh. Bah, you brought the rapist into it not me. I just find the across the board support ironic considering most reactions to immigration. I am actually fairly relaxed about immigration in general, I am happy for pretty much anybody to be let in, (rapists excepted obv) I thought the case of the sex attacker was pertinent. That's why I brought it up. I don't see how my support for this bloke is ironic. When have I ever taken an anti-immigration stance? Gak I play devils advocate just once and I get Alex on my case - bloody typical. It wasnt you I was getting at so much as the "rivers of blood" mentality that seems to be everywhere. Cool. Are we mates again then? always and forever -

Oh righto, because a rapist was allowed to remain in the country, then we should let everybody who wants stay in the country. Now I understand -

On its merits being? He is a teenager who has already got a kid and can kick a football, what exactly makes that more deserving than anybody else who has managed to get a job/knock a bird up Earns decent money, contributes to the economy, has a skill which should keep him in work. Shame he hasn't raped anyone like. He'd be guarenteed to stay then. Upon release of course. You're turning into Leazes -

I dunno, afaik his temp status as asylum seeker from sierra leone ran out, its no longer dangerous so off he goes. Or do we think any body from Sierra Leone should be allowed to stay. Surely he shouldnt be allowed to stay just because he can play football? -
I would love the Hitman to bring this off, but I think he will probably come up frustratingly short. Mayweather to start well, then weather the Hatton storm and hang on for a dodgy points win, booing and riot to follow

I think this loyalty thing is becoming more interesting. In dark moments I do find myself joining the "lets get relegated and get rid of the sky boys" school of thought but as the mackems have shown that doesn't work - they just come back as soon as you come back up. Even then having say 30k in the second division wouldn't guarantee better support - I think football has changed too much which is why as you allude to there are no clubs now where a manager would get an "easy" ride of that much time. Thats why I think Sam is being daft with his 3/5 year thing - even if he thinks that and it makes sense he has to realise that expecting it anywhere in the current climate is stupid. I would also point out that adding to your mention of Liverpool that they do have fans who think the lack of challenge for the title renders Benitez as a lame duck (see Houllier) and I honestly think if they hadn't won the CL the pressure on him would have snapped by now. There was a very good portion that were going that way mate. Theyre amongst the worst on the radio phone ins in fact (though I know that's not the best sample). Same observations apply to Man U and Arse at different times. You're spot on about the 3-5 year thing too btw. Not living in the real world if he honestly believes that. It would represent the sort of dispensation that is unheard of in modern football. You have no idea how much it pains me to say this, but the Liverpool fans who wanted shot of Houllier or Benitez kept it out of the ground. Utter wankers on phone ins, "divine righters" a phrase well chosen. Inside the ground though the atmosphere has remained noisy and supportive. Horribly self congratulating and smug maybe, but undeniably behind their team. Look at their treatment of Crouch when he was a non scoring national joke. We are now loyal in numbers only, I wish it wasnt so. ....and to that extent the comparison is just not relevant as I said originally. What the Liverpool fans have had to put up with is simply not in the same stratosphere as us. If circumstances were the same (looked at down the years) then I reckon they'd be absolutely no less vocal than us and in similar ways. It's just desperation at the end of the day and desperation is pretty universal in the way it manifests itself. Circumstances would never be the same however as that state of affairs would never be allowed to happen at Liverpool and like I say for that reason the comparison just simply does not exist for me. On a personal note, the booing is very difficult (if impossible) for me to reconcile myself to, but it says a lot that our ground is still even half full tbh. For that reason, (and also the point about the fact managers of the top three are under much more pressure than BSA) however, the journalists can just fucking sling it tbh. I didnt really intend to compare our position to Liverpools, I think I am just nostalgic for the times when the most important thing to the crowd was to make as much noise and have as good a time as possible. It was much easier before we had a tantalising glimpse of the summit, but the whole football experience was much more enjoyable. We knew we were rubbish so we were determined to be the best fans, now we dont even have that
