Newcastle must give Allardyce time
spongebob toonpants replied to Bombadil's topic in Newcastle Forum
I think this loyalty thing is becoming more interesting. In dark moments I do find myself joining the "lets get relegated and get rid of the sky boys" school of thought but as the mackems have shown that doesn't work - they just come back as soon as you come back up. Even then having say 30k in the second division wouldn't guarantee better support - I think football has changed too much which is why as you allude to there are no clubs now where a manager would get an "easy" ride of that much time. Thats why I think Sam is being daft with his 3/5 year thing - even if he thinks that and it makes sense he has to realise that expecting it anywhere in the current climate is stupid. I would also point out that adding to your mention of Liverpool that they do have fans who think the lack of challenge for the title renders Benitez as a lame duck (see Houllier) and I honestly think if they hadn't won the CL the pressure on him would have snapped by now. There was a very good portion that were going that way mate. Theyre amongst the worst on the radio phone ins in fact (though I know that's not the best sample). Same observations apply to Man U and Arse at different times. You're spot on about the 3-5 year thing too btw. Not living in the real world if he honestly believes that. It would represent the sort of dispensation that is unheard of in modern football. You have no idea how much it pains me to say this, but the Liverpool fans who wanted shot of Houllier or Benitez kept it out of the ground. Utter wankers on phone ins, "divine righters" a phrase well chosen. Inside the ground though the atmosphere has remained noisy and supportive. Horribly self congratulating and smug maybe, but undeniably behind their team. Look at their treatment of Crouch when he was a non scoring national joke. We are now loyal in numbers only, I wish it wasnt so. ....and to that extent the comparison is just not relevant as I said originally. What the Liverpool fans have had to put up with is simply not in the same stratosphere as us. If circumstances were the same (looked at down the years) then I reckon they'd be absolutely no less vocal than us and in similar ways. It's just desperation at the end of the day and desperation is pretty universal in the way it manifests itself. Circumstances would never be the same however as that state of affairs would never be allowed to happen at Liverpool and like I say for that reason the comparison just simply does not exist for me. On a personal note, the booing is very difficult (if impossible) for me to reconcile myself to, but it says a lot that our ground is still even half full tbh. For that reason, (and also the point about the fact managers of the top three are under much more pressure than BSA) however, the journalists can just fucking sling it tbh. I didnt really intend to compare our position to Liverpools, I think I am just nostalgic for the times when the most important thing to the crowd was to make as much noise and have as good a time as possible. It was much easier before we had a tantalising glimpse of the summit, but the whole football experience was much more enjoyable. We knew we were rubbish so we were determined to be the best fans, now we dont even have that -

Magpies want Capello to replace Allardyce
spongebob toonpants replied to Jimbo's topic in Newcastle Forum
As I was typing it I was wondering that...does it predate the Monty Python "Sick Parrot" sketch? Or did they use the phrase as inspiration? You mean you have never heard of The False Count, the comedy written in 1682 by Aphra Behn, in which the maid Jacinta says of her mistress Julia "Lord, Madam, you are as melancholy as a sick Parrot." The simile is particularly apt as Julia is herself a bright and beautiful creature deprived of her liberty by a jealously oppressive husband. It is for this reason that the phrase is used to expresses a feeling of disappointment rather than one of nausea. -
Oh come on people, love him or hate him it is obviously Elvis

hmm..... The Sopranos is to Only Fools and Horses as the Wire is to Heartbeat

The Wire and Sopranos are a must have. Ive only recently discovered The Wire, it started running from the first episode on FX, we are up to episode 5 series 2. What a fucking programme. It might even dislodge Twin Peaks as my pick for greatest tv series ever made. It is absolutely flawless. Omar !!!

Dearie me. Please tell me they're for your kids? Spice Girls tickets are for my daughter, Girls Aloud are obviously for me

The Wire series 1,2, 3 BSG Series3 & Razor The Sopranos 4 & 5 Angel complete collection Buffy Complete collection Add to that the 350 quid I spent on girls aloud and spice girl tickets on friday and you could come to the conclusion I am an idiot

The views on this board ranged from Robson at the very least had lost the plot and the dressing room to senility had taken hold. The team was considered an absolute disgrace for finishing fifth, with the only argument being whether disaproval should be shown by booing the lap of honour or leaving before the end
-
Erm yes it is. Now dont get me wrong if we can bring in Mourinho or somebody of obvious top top quality then ok. In the absence of an immediate replacement of this calibre then sacking Allerdyce would be ridiculous.

Yikes we are playing a 3-5-2

I think the reason Marylin Monroe is out on her own is he dying in dodgy circumstances while still at the top, she never had to get old, big advantage in the sex symbol stakes. Jane Fonda is close but she was more of an icon than a sex symbol. The whole Hanoi Jane thing, mind you for men of my generation Barbarella was something of a landmark man alive! She then practically invented the whole exercise video thing, which in the days before internet porn inspired a whole new generation,. But she is now seventy and married to Ted Turner, not really got it going on. She should have had a heart attack making an exercise video and she could have been wank material for eternity. Again with Madonna is is hard for you young'uns to realise how hugely sexualy outragous she was considered at the start. Before Madonna you had none of this stomach business with women, she has probably influenced female fashion more than any other person in the 20th century. Not so much since the 21st century, you cant be married to Guy Ritchie and be a sex symbol. I reckon there is only one other candidate, she even has the conspiracy theory death thing going on. Princess Diana - come on down!

wierd late night bump. We live in 3 dimensions, but as I understand it,(and I dont).(well I do when It is being explained but I can never verbalise what I have heard in a cogent way) string theory posits we exist in 3 physical dimensions , time is the fourth dimension, and there are a further six dimensions we cannot see or comprehend but the tenth dimension contains oscilating strings of energy that are the basis of an infinite number of universes that exist outside of time and space and infact everything. The universe as we know it started when two infintesmaly thin yet unimaginably vast skins of energy collided causing the big bang. 90% of the universe consists of dark matter, which nobody has ever seen, bt we are pretty certain it is there, even if we dont know what it is. This stuff fascinates me-I was listening to somebody recently talking about the square root of imaginay prime numbers and the similariety of their frequency to the nuclear signature of uranium, which was astonishing, but I imagine to some would be gobbldegook and pointless nonsense. Its not that surprising that some come to the conclusion that there is a higher being of some nature. It isnt really a stupid idea. It is a lot easier to understand, and to many a lot more likely than us just being the popping out of nowhere due to a random unexplainable event billions of years ago.If I am honest I would not rule out superior intellegent life out there somewhere, existing in a state"beyond worldly comprehension" I am not worshipping the fuckers though, no matter what. It annoys me that people feel the need to bow down and worship their god of choice, any god that demands worship is by defintion not worthy of it. The need to prove they are right and everybody else is going to hell, and the desire to force their truth onto the unbeleivers is abhorrent and dangerous. However I dont think beleiving is irrational for a lot of people, I can see how it would make more sense than the alternatives. Mocking them acheives nothing, explaining is pointless, faith is blind. On the bright side I cant see this country being ruled by the church, or by islam or jah rasafari or whatever again, we are pretty much over it,even if some random schools preach nonsense to a few potential tubthumpers. Chances are their parents would brainwash them anyway. In the long run reason will out. No need to take the piss of people who beleive, they dont really matter any more, in this country the argument is over. Blimey,I dont know where that came from.............oh well back to the poker
