As for his profit motive, i'm fucking delighted that he is driven by making money, i'd hate us to be the only football club in the world without a chairman that is and therefore being run by someone potentially clinically insane. As mentioned before it takes no account of the money from next two years season ticket sales, or am I expected to believe that has been put into a bank account untouched until the relevant season. At the very least it must have some effect on cash flow. I dont get how the accounts disprove my assertion anyway, bought the company, paid off the debt flog off as many players and bring in cheap replacements, if it wasnt for the credit crunch I would imagine he could have turned himself a very tidy quick profit. I am neither pro or anti Ashley either and sometimes I play devils advocate trying to look at what he is actually doing. Yes the way the supporters have been treated in terms of communication have been shocking and he made a major mistake with the Keegan/Wise situation, and also with Lambias (who appears to do nothing). But in terms of running the club has he actually done so bad by us? If the finances were so bad is there the possibility he is working with his hands tied behind his back trying to get the club financially back on the ground. I actually think that your Ambramovich's, the Man City lot etc have spoiled the game and supporters expectations. Many of us a saw a billionaire coming in and hoped he would spend, spend, spend but is that a reality, the club has to be financially stable for it to continue both now and when the time comes that Ashley moves on. In reality *if* Ashleys claim that he wanted the club to run itself financially and he would invest 10(?) million a year of his own money almost as play money was true I actually dont think that would have been too bad a deal. As I said before he has made quite alot of mistakes along the way and I am not his biggest fan but at the same time I think some expectations on our parts are often too high. I have been thinking for a while that maybe, just maybe, the campaign not to buy any merchandise from NUFC (programmes/pies/pints etc etc) could possibly be harming the very thing we love. I dont think they are inept, I think there is a business plan which they are sticking to that will make them money. Ineptness is something that can be turned round, being inept is making the wrong decision believing it to be the right one. These arent doing that, they are making decisions based on a different set of rules and aims to the rest of us. We want success, they want quick profit and they are going quite efficiently about that business. Not just a quick profit. I think Ashley is being told by Wise that we are too good to go down. The 'Cockney Mafia Out' banner was bought by myself and has been held aloft at various games by me, my 79 year old Dad, my friends Paul Fenning and Bernie Kane. You will notice there are no nicknames here as used by writers on this forum, that's who we are. I first went to St.James's Park in 1962, Plymouth Argyle at home 0-0, I follow my team home and away and have only missed three games in the last seventeen years, these were friendlies. I ran Toon Travel for fifeteen and a half years, providing coaches, trains or planes to every game in that time at a cheaper cost than the club, if they even bothered to put anything on. Whilst running Toon Travel I was also trying to run my haulage business which eventually failed, due somewhat to my travel commitments. My marriage to my southern born wife has also failed, this was down totally to my commitment to Newcastle United and not her. Thats a bit of background about me. The 'Cockney Mafia Out' banner. Tactics selection etc I have been pleasantly surprised. He seems to have learned from his mistakes, and appears to have got the team to pla for him. I think he is a pretty good judge of how good our players are and his selection of Bassong ahead of Taylor and and anyone ahead of Xisco show a bit of balls and good sense. Press/ waffle etc I think he is doing his best to be positive, and trying to influence the transfer policy the best he can. I think he has increasingly realised how little actual influence he has on what is happening and is hoping that he doesnt get stiched up in the transfer window. He admitted he was desperate for a job, and that no one else would take it. I dont think he is a fool, even if his situation puts him in a position where he sounds like one. I think he gets fed a lot of misinformation, and as he is the only one who talks to the press he is under constant pressure to answer questions about the situation. To be fair he has probably done a good enough job here to get himself another job somewhere else already, but he obviously thinks we are big enough club to put up with the shit for the moment. It will be very interesting to see how he reacts to the transfer window if it goes as badly as I fear
