  1. The problem with this is your confusing the fallout from appointing Souness (which I’m sure LM would agree was a bad decision) with an overall long term strategy. LM isn’t saying the last regime were perfect. He‘s saying their overall strategy was sound. Not faultless but right up until they handed Souness £50m it reaped huge rewards without compromising the club’s financial stability. Now letting Souness piss £50m on a load of crap players was a big mistake but pointing at what happened after that and writing off a strategy that clearly worked for NUFC is plain ignorant. One mistake didn’t undo all the progress we made under SJH/FF. It was a set back that required a short term rethink of the club’s finances. We just needed to steady the ship for a season or two and then get back to being a club that had ambition. Ashley has ripped up a blueprint that worked and replaced it with one that looks increasing like delivering nothing but a steady decline in the club’s status. Brilliant. Apologies to LM if I’ve misrepresented his views. Yup, yup, thrice yup
  2. Yes it does to be honest, the years since SBR have been utter shit and were trending down, last season and this have had much better "highs", in my opinion. I don't get all the incessant misery to be honest. I've enjoyed this season more than any season for years, but at the same time its been the most depressing. The realisation that the better somebody plays the less likely they are to be here next season is sickening Only if you let it sicken you, and your realisation is not proven (yet) why worry about next season, until it's here, anything you, me or anyone "thinks" just now might not ever happen. All I see just now, is a team which never knows it's beaten, appears to have pride in itself and works like fuck for the cause, what's bad about that. It's about the game after all. I do agree if someone knocks our socks off (or someone like Man U comes calling) with an offer for Enrique, for example, we'll sell him. Then again I realise if Barca or Real do the same for a Man U player he'll be sold/fuck off as well, it's just the way it is. Edit - the cure for your depression seems to be, the players can't play as well as they are so no-one'll want them which would result in a crap season/matchday experience. Or maybe we may just keep the players - again a long shot because of the way football is, but I'm a glass half full kinda blokey/codger. If I hadn't seen such riches I could live with being poor
  3. Rob if you want to know quite how bad doping is in cycling have poke around this forum -quite the eye opener I'm pretty convinced there are very few "clean" sports or sportsmen out there fwiw. The difference in stamina and power in so many sports is so different from 20 years ago.

  5. 7th could potentially get you into Europe though. Without trawling through all the missed opportunities this season, just taking the 6 points we were robbed off by Tottenham, Sunderland and Blackburn and we would already be very comfy in 6th on 41 points. And as you say, had Carroll and Ben Arfa stayed fit!!!!!!!!!! Good point about European football possible helping some players to stay a bit longer, however Im pretty much resigned to Tiote and Enrique going in the summer. If a local geordie lad cant resist the big money on offer, then cant see those two doing it. Its quite staggering that Ashley doesnt seem able to see we were only a few additions away from having a very good team. If he is aware then I think he has underestimated the negative and knock on effect the Carroll sale will have on other players. Somebody contact Christmas Tree, his account has been hacked
  6. Great result- remarkably comfortable performance. I really wish I was confident we could keep this unit together over the summer and add some quality - we aren't far off being a solid top 8 team. I fear the summer will be brutal though
  7. I dunno about anyone else but I think its Kuqi time
  8. This striker's automatic.....systematic.....hyyyyydromatic. WHY IT COULD BE GREASED SPASTIC! I think we all appreciate you waiting til the substitution, reverse jinx avoided

  13. Just out of interest how long are you going to keep blaming Shepherd for Ashley running the club like Netto Ad infinitum it appears Sponge Or until he isn't buying top players when the club can afford them That doesn't really answer my question.

  15. I never saw Best and I never saw Pele. One thing I can say is the game was no where near as competitive as it is now, no where near as quick, and I regard him as the greatest out and out goalscorer there's ever been. One player who often gets over looked when talking about the greatest players ever is Gerd Muller, he had a better scoring record than any of them at every level. Probably cos he's kraut like, but I've heard Beckenbauer say Muller made Bayern Munich the club they are today on his own. It may not have been as competitive, speed wise when Best played, but it was lot tougher. Best took treatment week in week out that was criminal compared to the way now, the things defenders could get away with then were unbelievable, but he was hard as nails. He played on shit heap pitches with a big heavy ball, but he could still do things that any player now would dream of. It was said by everybody who played with him and against him he wasnt just the best player in the league, he was the best player in every position in the league - I just wish there was more film of him about
  16. Well said Kenneth -I'm not ashamed to say I love him too, and, as always, will raise a glass in his name tonight
  17. I would put him behind George Best and Maradona, but I would say he is by far the most exciting player I have watched since the TV explosion of the game. When he played at Barcelona he was absolutely unbelievable.
