  1. I saw 3 of those. Penetration, Wire and the Rezillos, in retrospect missing the Talking Heads was a mistake, and I never got to see them Saw the Boys a couple of times. My favourite thing about the Boys is the way they realised Terminal Love sounded the same as Knocking on Heavens Door so the they just segue into it on the record. Probably cost them a fortune in royalties Must dig out my copy of To Hell with the Boys and annoy the wife
  2. Looking back it was ridiculous how lucky I was to live through that time. This was a typical gew weeks
  3. I'd been moved to Liverpool before I achieved gig going age. Eric's in Liverpool was my rkegular haunt until the filth closed it down I'm on the far right of this picture at the ensuing protest. The great man Pete Wylie front and centre (obviously)
  4. Hmmmm? https://www.opendemocracy.net/en/labour-given-4m-from-tax-haven-based-hedge-fund-with-shares-in-oil-and-arms/ This sort of thing does worry me

  7. You aren't even talking about the proper Bluey. I used to love this program back in the day, even had a fan club where we used to meet up in a pub in Liverpool every couple of months to discuss the great man Lucky Grills
  8. Be interesting to see what actually happens in the budget
  9. Austerity is a proven failure in bringing down debt, while destroying the country at the same time Invest in infrastructure and green tech and it will more than pay for itself and revitalise the economy at the same time Country is being run like Ashley ran the club at the moment
  10. The country is fucked through years of austerity and then leaving the single market. Labour is just promising more of the same Taxing the rich isn't the solution though I'm all for a windfall tax on the power companies and some sort of wealth tax. Increasing income tax certainly isn't the way What they should do is drop following the artificial tory financial rules and spending cuts and borrow for investment. The country is desperate for investment, it leads to growth and renewal and pays for itself in the medium and long term Obviously they should also rejoin the single market, so fucking what if it wasnt in the manifesto, its idiocy and criminally negligent not to. We all know this, the vast majority of the country know this. Starmer and Reeves must also know this, but instead they are farting about the edges as the country continues to drcline
  11. I think your Nordic countries are exceptions to this. Why isn't Labour taxing the rich more? Beats me. Cowardice, their donors don't want it, they actually want to follow tory spending rules. Who knows
  12. The rest of them are laughing, Wes Saunders is thinking I'm drinking that later
  13. The voting system is so rigged towards the Republicans Harris needs to be plus 6% before you can have any sort of hope never mind confidence I seem to remember Biden was 6 points ahead and barely squeaked in
  14. It did not disappoint. Taylor Parkes was on magnificent misanthropic form. He gave Nineteen by Paul Hardcastle a superb evisceration I'm not normally one for merch but I couldn't resist this t-shirt
  15. Indeed they did. You can't beat disappearing down a reggae rabbithole
  16. That's the sbsolute truth I did some courier work for a couple of months at the start of the year and listened to it all day every day while driving. It was fucking glorious
  17. My current favourite song featuring a Malian Kora
  18. Sadly not a chance in hell Labour are thinking like this This is Jonathan Reynolds the sec of state for business and trade in the Observer this weekend https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/article/2024/aug/25/greater-trading-options-are-crucial-to-the-rebuilding-of-the-country-cptpp Bigging up the CPTTP treaty iwith words that could have come straight out of Baddenochs mouth More magical thinking on Brexit, honestly I despair
  19. I don't disagree with your diagnosis, I just think it needs a different solution. It's OK, we're all (sort of) grown-ups, we don't have to agree on everything
