Sam Allardyce has dismissed speculation that Charles N'Zogbia could leave Newcastle United. Reports have linked West Ham United with a bid for the French midfielder, who finished last season by refusing to sit on the bench for the closing game at Watford. But Allardyce, who is actively trying to strengthen his squad, feels it would be a futile exercise to sell N'Zogbia. Instead, the Magpies manager is urging the 21-year-old to claim a regular spot in his first-team plans in the coming season. "It's news to me," Allardyce told the club's official website regarding the rumours. "Speculation is rife and as always there's a lot of speculation around Newcastle United. "We don't want any players to be leaving the football club because it's a growing team and a growing squad we need to build. "I'm still short of probably four defenders, so why would I want to go and sell a forward player, and then have another problem replacing him? "For me Charles is a fantastic young player, and he's got a great opportunity to improve his ability and improve his skills and take a regular place in Newcastle United's first team. "We've already brought in four players and to get another four means eight, and that is a massive task for any football club in any part of any season, certainly in the summer, so to sell one and start bringing in others makes life even more difficult."

Nope, no way, absolute rip off for 8-10 mil £8m for defoe is a bargain in my eyes Well that's why you're not a top manager dnt need to be a top manager to know that defoe is a good signing.... well for £8m any ways

Brede Hangeland is willing to stay at FC Copenhagen, if the Danish club receive no suitable offers. The defender has been linked with Newcastle United, having missed out on a move to West Ham United in January. Hangeland has admitted to being tempted by the prospect of a switch to St James' Park, while reports have claimed Aston Villa and Manchester City have also expressed an interest. Copenhagen recently revealed no bids had been lodged for the Norway international, who only joined from Viking Stavanger last year. But while Hangeland would be keen to join a top club, his agent Jim Solbakken concedes the stopper has no qualms in staying with his current team. "In case the right offer comes, Brede might move," Solbakken told VG. "If it doesn't, he will stay at FC Copenhagen, where he is happy under the reign of Stale Solbakken."

Sevilla have slapped a £10million price tag on last season's top scorer Fredi Kanoute. The Mali international striker has been linked with a return to the Premier League this summer with Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp a known admirer. Pompey have had a €7million (£4.7million) offer rejected by Sevilla and the Spanish club are holding out for double that amount. Newcastle and Bolton are believed to have made enquiries about Kanoute, although neither have tabled formal bids for the 29-year-old. Sevilla are willing to let the former Tottenham and West Ham front-man depart but only if the price is right for them. "If any club is interested in Kanoute the minimum price is €15million (£10million)," club president Jose Maria Del Nido told the Spanish press. Kanoute scored 21 goals in La Liga last season and is looking to cash in by earning a lucrative new contract. Sevilla have so far not matched his demands and Kanoute admits there is a possibility he could return to England prior to next season. "I need to speak with the club because I want to earn more money. I am happy in Sevilla but I want to be valued like my team-mates," he said. "Now there are offers and they are interesting to me. The decision will be in my hands. "If Sevilla do decide to sell me I will not create any problems but logically I want to decide my future. "If I do leave Sevilla my destination will be England."

Mark Viduka believes he can form a formidable partnership with Michael Owen. Former Leeds forward Viduka, who joined The Magpies from Middlesbrough, admits he has been a long-term admirer of the England striker. And asked whether they can form a good strike pairing, he said: "I hope so. I've always admired his ability and I think we can complement each other, because we are different types of players." Viduka is likely to start with Owen, battling it out with Obafemi Martins for the other place in attack. Viduka is currently on duty with Australia in Thailand as they embark on their first AFC Asian Cup campaign. The Socceroos began the tournament with a disappointing 1-0 draw against Oman. Expectations of Viduka among Newcastle fans will be high - but he believes he can cope with the pressure. "I will probably have to deal with that when it comes," he said. "There is always big expectation, because Newcastle are a massive club and want to do well - and I want to do well there. "We will cross that bridge when we come to it."

Ludovic Giuly has revealed he has rejected offers to move to England and is considering staying at Barcelona next season. The French winger has been strongly linked with a move away from Camp Nou this summer with the club believed to be ready to let him depart. The likes of Tottenham and Newcastle have been linked with the 31-year-old while interest from Monaco and Marseille has cooled after learning of Barcelona's asking price for the midfielder. Giuly is in no rush to leave Barca and is ready to see out the final year of his contract . "I have decided to stay at Barcelona," Giuly told catalan tv3. "In the last days I have rejected offers from England and France. "My desire has not changed and I believe I am capable of doing something for this club (Barcelona). "Now I wait for official communication from the club and if I do not know anything in ten days I will return to work as normal with Barcelona.

Am I losing my mind, or does Mr Anelka actually play for Bolton ?? gd point actually i didnt even recognize it

some one who has the same opinion as me!!!! emre is an excellent player when he is fit and under sam and coaching staff he can only get better It goes without saying. Inter Milan don't play crap 20-year olds in their first team in a season where they get into the Champions League semi-final. What's that got to do with it? Depo don't play shit spanish internationals in their first team either. Does that make Luque one of our best players? He's been awful since signing for us, that's all that counts. Get rid now whilst he's still got a little value. I'd rather see Viana back, and that's saying a lot. Luque is also a good player, but you can't really compare the two. Last season, many players were awful and under Souness everbody awful. We should keep the players we have that actually have the ability to lift the side from mid-table. :D

Newcastle schemer Emre believes a new-look strike-force of Michael Owen and Mark Viduka can help The Magpies shake off the malaise that has hindered the club in recent seasons. There is an air of expectancy about the North East club ahead of the upcoming season, as new manager Sam Allardyce has called for a change of culture and begun to overhaul the playing squad. Viduka, Geremi, David Rozehnal and Joey Barton have all arrived over the summer, whilst Owen should be raring to go after missing the majority of last season due to a serious knee injury. Emre hopes that the injection of new blood, and the return to fitness of Owen, will have a palatable impact on a team that limped into 13th place in the Premier League last season. "We will do much better next season with these players here," said Emre. "Both Mark Viduka and Michael Owen will help us perform much better and finish higher in the table than last season." Emre missed the conclusion of the previous campaign due to an ankle injury, but is hopeful of proving his fitness ahead of Newcastle's visit to Bolton on the first day of the season. "I don't think I can do any ball work for three weeks, but hopefully I will be ready for the start of the new season," Emre added. Meanwhile, Allardyce has explained he is unwilling to let some of his fringe players leave on loan due to changes in the transfer regulations that prohibit short-term deals. "The loan system has changed in the Football League this year and has now converted to the same system we have to put up with, which is only year-long loans," said Allardyce. "You can't do any more emergency loans, or one, two or three-month loans. "It means if I am going to let a player go on loan, it's effectively a short-term transfer. There's no call-back or recall on that particular player. "The last thing I want to do is leave myself short if anything happens." Interesting how he says owen and viduka and takes martins out of the equation. What do you guys think the reason is?

Eidur Gudjohnsen's father and agent says he has not been in contact with any clubs about the Barcelona striker's services. Gudjohnsen has been linked with a move back to England following Thierry Henry's £16million arrival at the Camp Nou. Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce is reportedly interested in the Iceland international, with the pair having worked together at Bolton prior to the front man moving on to Chelsea. But Arnor Gudjohnsen insists he has not held discussions with any clubs and that the 28-year-old wants to fight for his place at Barcelona. "No, not at all. I haven't been in touch with any club," he told Sky Sports News. "I've just heard lots of rumours. "At the moment he is a Barcelona player, he has three years left on his contract. "I know that there has been a lot of speculation but he sees himself in Barcelona next year." The signing of Henry pushes Gudjohnsen further down the pecking order at Barcelona, however, he is working hard to be at his very best when training starts again with the Spanish giants. "He's played in a team like Chelsea who had a lot of great players and had to fight for his place, it's going to be the same in Barcelona," Arnor said. "I can't see Thierry Henry and Samuel Eto'o playing all season together. "He's really determined, he's training very hard here in Iceland on his vacation and his going to be well prepared for the next season." Should Gudjohnsen decide to depart Barca sometime in the future, Arnor Gudjohnsen believes a return to the Premier League is a strong possibility. He added: "He knows England well, he had a fantastic time there. "He's not thinking about that at the moment but you never know in the future what's going to happen. I think England would be an obvious choice." I wish his dad would fuck of

Sam Allardyce has continued his rebuilding at Newcastle with the capture of Geremi from Chelsea on a free transfer. The versatile Cameroon international has been in talks at St James' Park over the past few days and, has now concurred on terms over a three-year deal. A medical has been passed and Geremi will join Newcastle subject to his obtaining of a routine work permit. "Geremi has passed a medical and agreed personal terms with the Magpies, and will arrive on a free transfer from Chelsea on a three-year contract once his work permit has been obtained," confirmed a club spokesman. The 28-year-old has been at Chelsea since 2003 but all too often has found opportunities scarce, in making just 72 appearances and scoring four goals. He is, though, already well acquainted with the North East having spent the 2002/03 campaign on-loan at Middlesbrough, where he impressed, before making his move to the Premiership permanent in joining Chelsea. Geremi becomes Newcastle's fourth signing of the summer, following on from the captures of Mark Viduka, Joey Barton and David Rozehnal.

Sky Sports News understands Newcastle have opened talks with Geremi. Sam Allardyce confirmed his interest in the Chelsea utility man earlier this week and said he was looking to push through a deal as quickly as possible. Chelsea are now understood to have given The Magpies permission to speak to Geremi and the Cameroonian has travelled to St James' Park for talks. Geremi has been at Chelsea since 2003 and has made some useful contributions even if he has not established himself as a regular starter. He can operate in midfield or at right-back and his versatility is sure to appeal to Allardyce. If Geremi joins he will become Allardyce's fourth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Mark Viduka, Joey Barton and David Rozehnal. Barcelona's Edmilson has also been linked with a move to Newcastle.

Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce has rubbished reports linking Kieron Dyer with a move away from St James' Park. Speculation has claimed that Tottenham are lining up a move for the former Ipswich Town ace. Allardyce has refuted the rumours and insists Dyer has a big part to play in his plans on Tyneside after holding talks with the player. "Anyone saying that I want Kieron to leave is talking utter rubbish," Allardyce told The People. "He is one of the successes of last year in that he appears to have overcome his major injury problems. "I have spoken to Kieron. He is such a versatile player that he can get used in a number of positions and that can be difficult for him sometimes. "But I will take the brunt of it if he has to be moved around. We want to grow together."
