Barring 1 mistake i was impressed with Enrique throughout in both defence and attack and i hope this sees him back at LB where he should be in the team freeing Zog up to play further forward. And as people have said if that ball had been played by a player for the "big 4" they'd be banging on about it still!
-
Ive always been a big fan of Owen and as people have said we will not be able to get anyone better than him to sign for us in our current state and even if we somehow managed it, they would cost a fortune. The guy is still one of the best finishers in the game and his off the ball movement and timing of runs to be in the right place are second to none. This will be his last really big contract in his career so we're going to have to pay him well and i believe Ashley will get it sorted. Then we just have to hope he doesn't suffer anymore big injuries, because last season once he was over his major injury he put together a good run of appearances and can do again.
-
Really hope there is truth in this being one of our targets and that it comes off, and i also think its a good idea when signing foreign players if you can to have more than one from the same country. Its much easier for them to settle in and feel confortable at the club with a few countrymen there and people who speak the language. Wenger had a few french players in at the same time and it worked great for him.

I really like the guy, has a great attitude and work ethic and when Roeder et al fucked him about he just kept quiet and got on with things, and i'd keep him for now as our squad is already way to thin and i think he is ok, he can play a part this season but shouldn't be first choice if we want to progress. Because he has no pace (not his fault mind!) and his crossing/corners are really poor, which by the age he is now you could have worked on and arent likely to improve much if they haven't already.

To be fair considering how shite their strikeforce is (Jones potentially aside) i think its a canny signing for them and definitely improves them, but as people have said he wasn't prolific for Liverpool whow had a better team then than the mackems do now. Also hasn't he broken both his legs now, there has to be a big injury question mark there long term. As for Diouf, he has never and will never be prolific as he is nothing special as a player nevermind goalscorer. Not a bad player either and better than they had, but he's far better at getting on peoples tits and gobbing on people than he is at scoring goals. Anyway as the mackems would say i'm clearly bricking it!

I really don't get what Ipswich are doing to be honest. The medical hasn't revealled a major defect or a potentially long term injury problem, its shown what they already knew, that he currently has a hamstring injury which will be fine in a few weeks. Are they looking to sign a palyer for a few years or do they somehow desperately need him for the next few weeks alone! Shame for us and Shola though as he had found a club finally he was happy enough to play for and we'd got soem money for him and removed him from the wage bill!
-
The thing i really liked about Coloccini once he'd settled in was the Woodgate style defending of anticipating where he needed to eb before it happened, so 2nd half on more than one occasions he just strode in took the ball and their players ended up having to foul him and give us a freekick. For a guy to have played no games pre season for us and start against Manu at Old Trafford as well as he did is really looking good. And i hope Taylor does watch and learn from the guy and that they do form a long term partnership at the back.
-
I don't know what you mean, that's clearly the best formation for English teams to use without question, i mean the performances of our team under that formation speak for themselves!
-
I'm so pleased that Given was the player i remember from before all the injuries as last season he was a shadow of the player he can be, But today was what i expect from him, he's no.1 at this club on that form and will remain so. But Harper is very unlucky considering his form last season and as ever will provide top class cover for Given when required.
-
I'm the biggest critics of refs going and i don't think he was at all. Every time i saw a toon player fouled he gave it, he booked 2 or 3 of their players *rightly) and none of ours (again rightly), i've never witnessed a ref give us even close to a fair go at Old Trafford, and for that i give him a shitload of credit.
-
And rightly so! I'm sure you were actually knocking one out over him!

Keegans has on more than one occassion in the press staed that he rates Enrique but wants another LB to compete/challenge him. Also he;s said they thought he came back from preseason having lost too much weight so maybe they'll ease him back in. But i wil be annoyed if they play Zog there ahead of him as Enrique is a good LB and Zog is a player who talented as he is, is way out of position in defence.
-
What a start to the season, Keegan already working his magic as that was a Keegan team and no mistake. Given was back to the player i remember from 2 years ago and what a bonus that was. The defence may have had the odd dodgy moment but they looked steady second half and Colicini settled in nicely with hopefully Enrique to come in as well. Jonas was pure class and worked his arse off getting back to tackle mau players, which the whole team did to be fair. Also if you inculde the pre season match and this one Guthrie has taken 3 corners, all have been class and we've scored from 2 out of the 3 so the guy has to take them from now on! And the thing i never thought i'd say, Mike Riley was outstanding in a macth at Old Trafford, he was unbiassed, up with play, gave every decision fairly, booked their players for fouls and R9ooney for his usual dissent, and the only thing ppl could say was he could have maybe given them a pen and us a freekick for the Milner handball and Jonas foul, i still can't believe it and i feel dirty for saying it but Mike Riley was excellent!
-
I've been watching us since we got promoted with Keegan as a player and i have to agree that Beye could end up being the best RB i've had the pleasure of seeing play for us, but for now i'm still going with Venison as the best ive seen due to him playign for a few seasons against Beye's one season. Also agree with people that Venison was class in the middle of the park for us as well, just a typically great KK signing all round really. And despite it being Allardyce who picked him i think Beye looks exactly like a Keegan player to me.
-
Whilst i'm not expecting Keegan to completely emulate his last spell with us, he's not a miracle worker! I am expecting him to do one basic thing and that is get us back to the days of attacking and beating most teams at St. James bar the top 4 who we'll have a bloody good go at. Keegan knows how to plat at St. james, how to get the crowd fired up and behind the team rather than have the fans shattering any confidence left in the team as was the case under our last 3 "managers". So i don't think it unreasonable to predict either 5 wins from those home games or say 4 wins and a draw with Keegan at the helm. So thats 13-15 pts i'd expect from the home games. Away if we could pick up 1 win and a draw it would be a good start considering we have manu and arse amongst those games. As for todays match i'm going for us playing well and holding manu till Riley shafts us and they go on to likely win. And since its Manu at Old Trafford with Riley in charge they have to get a pen at some point in the game! But i do think we'll play quite well myself even without key players like Owen, Viduka etc.
-
That can't be real, surely. You'd think not but it is, ive seen a couple of clips of it on another programme and an interview with the writer! Bizarrely it was also mentioned on a Family Guy DVD commentary by one of their writers who'd seen it/heard about it and couldn't believe it either!

Manu or Chelsea without question for me sadly. Don't see Liverpool ever sustaining a full season title challenge, better off aiming for the CL as usual. Arse will do what they always do, play the prettiest football, fanny about trying to walk the ball into the net and get bullied by lesser teams every so often whilst manu and Chelsea get on with grinding out wins when playing badly and hammering people when playing well. Spurs have no chance though will be a damn sight better than last year in the league i suspect and nobody else ever has a chance these days!
-
I'd like 4 in certainly, ideally a proven centreback with experience, creative midfielder, striker and a fullback and in an ideal wold this would all be combined with 2 or 3 squad players to bolster our ranks, but lets just hope for 4 quality players for now! I guess the other hope at the club is that by part of the way through the season 1 or 2 of the young lads might have stepped up to first team squad level at least and will provide some new options, but is always a gamble. On the plus side other teams will be playing regular european games midweek, will in theory be more tired, suffer more injuries and the like and hoefully KK can do what Bobby once did and make the very most out of a season not in europe to finish high up in the league.

From way back in the day i watched (And then bought) all the series of Chewin' The Fat which is the sketch show that Still game came out of. Then i bought all the Still games, really good laugh, first 4 series are it at its peak, 5 good but not quite as good and by 6 i think its time to finish. But would reccomed both shows to people.

The aforementioned Lucy Porter is decent but the late Linda Smith was the best. Yeah, she was always good, particularly on I'm Sorry I Haven't a clue on the radio. I think Have I Got News For You has done better female wise as they often don't go for female comedians but instead go for journalists, presenters or whatever else and they can be quite good as they aren't trying to tell jokes/deliberately be funny, they just happen to be funny/witty in themselves. I used to like Josey Lawrence on Whose line is it anyway as well, but never seen much of her on these panel type games.
-
Anyone know why Rage Against The Machine refused the BBC permission to show their set at T in the Park? Knowing Zach its probably some political thing! I was waiting to see them only to turn on and see the presenters with Rage perfoming in the distance saying they weren't allowed to show it.

I don't hate Gina Yashere but she does get on Mock The Week as its a programme almost exclusively made up of white blokes so she ticks two boxes in one go for them, but she just isn't funny enough to justify being on there as all she does is shout and do an angry nigerian voice usually as her mother! But most of the women they have on it can't match the blokes to be fair, they just get lost in the mix and their standup bits can really struggle. Jo Brand is one of the few who matches the guys, thats why she frequently appears on all the panel shows going. But i'm a big fan of the programme, Dara is always good value, Frankie is class and will say anything, i also like Dennis, PArsons and Howard and quite a few of the regular guests they have, but like you i like to see David Mitchell on as often as possible. John Oliver hasn't been on for ages now, i'm guessing as he's busy in the USA appearing on John Stewart's show.

Film/moving picture show you most recently watched
Papa Lazaru replied to Jimbo's topic in General Chat
Ended up watching that again myself, always liked Archer winding up the religious govenor being an atheist then finding himself "drawn to Mecca" I saw the original "TV play" version a while back, bit different in terms of the swearing and violence and Carlin had a "missus" basically with the implication it was a boy he kept with him to shag whilst insisting he was in no way gay! And needless to say the Greenhouse scene was nowhere near as bad! -
I used to find the media tiresome, now they're just laughable and i don't give them a second thought really. This club is now a completely different organisation to the farcial media circus it used to be and they don't have gobshites and officials giving them ammunition all the time so in a collective strop they've decided to bombard us with non stop bullshit and shitstirring instead. They seem to have some sort of wheel of stroies they keep repeating in slightly different formats. So having done Ahsley selling the club for about the 12th time, it'll be followed soon by another of the Keegan vs Wise, Keegan vs Ashley, Keegan vs everyone at the club, players vs manager, or any other combination of people apparently at war with each other...then they'll do a selling Martins story as that occurs every week or two, then it'll be some leak from an insider or source close to the manager/chaiman etc. (ie a lie) and then it'll be some made up transfer links followed by returning to Ashley selling the club again! They don't know what's happing at the club anymore and people should ignore all the shite they come up with. It was proven when not one part of the media had remotely linked us to the Spanish winger, they hadn't a clue then suddenly its all done and dusted and they were caught out completely. As all the sensible people have said, Ashley will certainly consider and possibly sell if a great big offer comes in offering a massive profit, and why shouldn't he, but he hasn't been looking to sell and isnt hawkign the club round to all comers and apart from this current story where some people may have contacted the club possibly, the rest have by and large been utter bollocks.
