  1. It's all just a little piece of history repeating. And how bad is it that he probably will be more popular because he did it! Don't worry about running the country well for a change, just make some speeches about Jade Goody!
  2. The country is a joke to be honest, how many weeks now has she been front page news and several pages inside as well in more than one paper. Its a complete non story to anyone with an IQ of more than 10, its sad for her and her kids she died young of cancer, but people up and down the country suffer that. There's actual important things happening in the world apparently, not that you can tell these days! Also as Alex pointed out the papers did what they always do, hammer somebody completely until they're dead/dying and then do a complete turnaround and forget everything they previously wrote. And anybody getting upset and travelling to leave flowers etc. at the house of a complete stranger you've had nothing to do with at all in life other than read about them want to have a word with themselves. As for raising awareness, directly or indirectly (mostly the latter) at least she and the media will have done that which is never a bad thing. But totally different to Prattchett who on finding out he had alzheimers donated a million quid and has since worked continually with organisations dealign with it, or Fox who has campaigned long and hard against the religious idiots in the USA who fight against stem cell research being allowed. Also both of them are famous for a talent/actually contributing something to society, well they are if you're a fan of their books/films anyway! And Gordon Brown is nothing but a popularity seeking whore basically!
  3. was it booing shola or the decision to bring him on though... i'd rather he stayed on the bench like wouldn't boo him coming on more the people making the subs (i'd secretly be hating him though) I'll do a poll next time The distinction is subtle enough to make no difference anyway. Certainly in terms of the effect it has on the player / team anyway. Fucking arseholes. The people who did it are absolute pricks, it just lowers indiviual and team morale/confidence if thats possible and makes our support look like complete tools to people watching on TV. And i think they did both, first booing Hughtons usual piss poor substitution, but it clearly continued as Shola was ready to come on and was still going as he moved to his position on the pitch so it was clear to him what they thought. None of us want Shola anywhere near the team but he's on, support him and get behind the team. And he showed exactly why he shouldn't be there when he rolled that easy chance to the keeper, in his entire career i'm yet to see him strike a ball cleanly, even when he's scored!
  4. If it was a straight choice of Taylor vs Shola up front i may just agree with you and i'm not joking! However I'd be picking any of the other strikers before either of them. Taylors finish against Hull was better than anything he's likely to do as a defender and it said in the chron tonight he was a striker when younger apprently.
  5. As people have said, whether people should be banned from speaking is one issue, but banning Galloway from anything and everything is totally fine as the guy is a complete and utter dick.
  6. Wonder which teams will turn up for this one? Will it be the total football, can beat anyone in the world arsenal or the whingeing spoilt brats who piss about and can lose to far inferior teams and will they be playing the NUFC who suddenly looked like a half decent team against manu or the sack of shite we've seen at Hull, Bolton etc!!! If Hughton picks Smith and Geremi ahead of Lovenkrands and uses Shola ahead of any other attacker then he should never be allowed near the team again. I saw him in the chronicle bemoaning the lack of service to Oba and Owen against Hull, failing to mention he was the retard who picked a midfield that would make the cast of Dad's army (as the are now!) look young and pacy! I said of the 3 games with manu, arse and chelsea we would pick up something in at least one of them as we always seem to manage one effort like that, but i'm worried now that we turned in a good performance against manu and got nothing! Still i'll be massively optimistic and say we'll get something from tomorrows game.
  7. Indeed, they would class it as the best season of football ever if they finished 4th bottom and we went down, the fact they'd had a shite season would be irrelivent!
  8. Indeed, but how funny would it be if the mackems went down with us 1 single, solitary place above them, i think the residents of Sunderland would simply explode en masse to be honest!
  9. Can't believe anyone thinks Oba gets more stick/less plaudits than Owen at Newcastle! Owen has nowt but shit from certain fans and anything good he does do is met with indifference, even for example winning the derby against the mackems, the fans could barely bother to ackowledge him with a song or chant. As somebody said, Martins has steadilyl become vital to this team as we've got worse and become more and more pedestrian and one paced. He would always be in my team but will continue to frustrate as when he's instinctive he can pull something special out, but with any time to think results are variable to say the least! If Owen stays fit and gets any service (which may depend on the dickheads in charge picking the right team) he'll score goals, and that should se us with a good chance of staying up. If Martins stays fit, who knows what he'll do but his pace on the counter and potential matchwinning ability will be important.
  10. Shame it wouldn't matter how any players realise it, if the complete fuckwitts in charge don't get it and keep picking the wrong team, the wrong tactics and wouldn't know what a substitution was to save their lives. As for Taylor i'd be hoping his time in the team is nearly up as Beye is approaching fitness, but knowing the management we'll see Taylor moved to CB where he can really cause some problems for us to accomodate Beye at RB!
  11. Happy Face pretty much covered my feelings on the pope and as people have said it was so predictable he'd come out with this utter shite. He just makes me ever more satisfied with being an atheist! To be honest somebody who has never and will never have sex should fuck off and stop telling everyone else how and when they can and can't do it!
  12. I watched it last night, but was only half paying attention so i was sitting there thinking, did he say what i thought he just said! Icouldn't be sure but i did think he'd said that and turns out he had! Its one of those things i've heard many poeple use in relation to football and indeed other sports, but something that's always going to be innapropriate on tv, though you can guarentee the do-gooders and daily mail crowd will as ever massively overreact and demand he be strung up instead of accepting his apology and moving on.
  13. Nothing to lose versus a point is a good result mentality - criminal stupidity. And even if you said fair enough on their starting line-up and us being at 1-1 with all to play for (and i'm being very kind to them here!), to bring on the lumbering Shola instead of Lovenkrands' pace is so inept its scary! I can understand they wanted Butt's old head and defensive side away from home in a tight game like this, but to add in Smith AND Geremi!!! These days after 20 mins Geremi can barley walk!
  14. The annoying thing with Jonas is that he literally can't shoot, he's not just bad or snatches at chances, he physically can't get any power behind it for some reason. He can go past people though and he regularly gets fouled so i wish he'd get inthe box more and try and get a penalty or two for us, because he can't pull the trigger himself. The shooting thing wouldn't have mattered in Spain where he was getting 20+ assists, but obviously we haven't seen that from him so it is a bit worrying.
  15. Because our coaching staff are cretinous retards. I didn't watch or listen to the match, just saw the scores coming up on SSN in a pub, so i had no idea of the lineup but i said to my mate, i bet i come home to find something that will drive me up the fucking wall! And i was right, i mean Smith, Geremi and Shola ahead of Lovenkrands, do they actually want to try and win the game or not, why don't the coaching staff just go up to the toon fans, stick two fingers up and go home, they're taking the piss sometimes, they really are! When we played manu and for once actually looked dangerous against what was top class opposition it was entirely down to Lovenkrands, Martins and Jonas' pace on the break, so what do they do, go with Butt, Geremi and Smith!
  16. I'd probably go with either of the first 2 line-ups in the thread dependng on whether you wanted 4-4-2 or 4-3-3, though if we'd had either of those line-ups available for any length of time this season we wouldn't be in any trouble, even with the off the field anarchy and the shit management we have. Sadly this is NUFC so our best players beinf fit and available at all is unlikely nevermind all the time!
  17. I haven't read it but they probably have Llambias mentioning it was Dennis Wises' idea to allow fans the option to get out of it 'cause he's such a great bloke, whereas Keegan would have insisted they had to stick to the contract!
  18. The return of Owen is now critical. Absolutely essential Martins stays fit as well. I think with Owen's guile and the pace of Martins and Lovenkrands, plus the return of Barton, Guthrie and Nolan, we have a decent chance. Any more injury setbacks though and, well, it doesn't really bear thinking about. Obviously i've always been a massive fan of Owen but he really is critical in these final games. On his day there are few better finishes and as Keegan showed if he plays that bit further back he could as you say exploit the pace of Martins and Lovenkrands. Against manu those two and Jonas caused genuine problems on the break, soemthing we haven't done all season really, with Owen in the mix there we could score some goals.
  19. I'm not getting into the Shepherd/Ashley debate here, i don't like either of them and any number of people could have run this club better than both of them. But on the relegation issue, it would be an unmitigated disaster if this club went down, nothing good IMO would come of it at all: The obvious loss of finaces from all manner of sources, TV, premiership, shirt sponsor, ticket sales We'd lose most of the good/half decent players we have from an already small and lopsided squad We wouldn't bring in as many replacements as needed and they wouldn't be good enough either i'd imagine We would likely suffer a big hangover from the relegation and that could be enough to stop bouncing straight back We would be stuck with Kinnear or some other inadequate boss thanks to the owners to get promotion And i don't care if this sounds arrogant or not, but we would be a massive target/scalp for some of the clubs in that division, apart from Leeds recently there hasn't been anyone as big/glamourous call it what you will as us down there, so every week expect to see the opposition lift their game, be fired up and love either a chance to play us or shoot us down, and i doubt we'd cope with that well at all. And that's off the top of my head!
  20. It really was, wasnt it! I wish somebody there had picked a player who's been far from the best to see if he'd go for it and name them as a Wise signing. But then fans aren't the cynical lieing little fuckers that the management are so they answered him honestly.
  21. Was going to say exactly that, but you beat me to it! We al know he isn't at his best all the time and alot of people question his attitude, but on his day he's the most talented player we have and he could have won matches for us if they'd played him, but they went for Shola ambling about up front doing nothing instead and now he's injured again. So when he recovers from this injury they will once again not want to play him until its too late. The thing is when Owen returns they will pitch him straight back in (which i might add i completely agree with) when he will probably suffer more from lack of match fitness than Viduka who isn't likely to be moving about excessively anyway! Actually said this 1st when he was played ahead of Shola v Bolton so I'm way ahead of you Agree about the Owen point too. I've been saying it from the second he was declared fit, not even directly before a match! Seriously though, everyone but our management can see you pick these players ahead of the Shola's of the world, and when their legs go you bring on a sub. And instead of Shola i'd be using Carroll anyway (aside from his brief injury spell obviously) as for me he seems pretty neat and tidy in everything he does, uses the ball and brings team mates into the game quite well. Be interesting for those last home games vs Pompey and Smogs if Owen/Viduka/Martins were all fit for once, i'd go for it!
  22. 23. 7 for me as i didnt know (or manage to guess) the old guys age, Givens appearances and something else, i didnt check what i got right and wrong but i knew the 7 i got right.
  24. It would be typical NUFC to be the first to score against Ed VdS for what seems like six years. Still get beat, mind. I never bother with betting myself, but i always thought us for first goal was a really good shout as being NUFC we were likely to be the team to score past them as nobody expected us to where better teams had failed, but like you said it would then end up in defeat!
  25. Yeah, at the match we all assumed it was Steven on the basis he's a complete fucking retard and does shit like this all the time, but i did notice as the game was about to restart that he (Steven) went up to Ryan and seemed to be trying to lift him as if Ryan had done it. Then some bloke who'd been for a piss and seen the replay told us it was Steven so i thought it must have been. Then MOTD said Steven as well! But even if it wasn't him for the goal, he should have been sent off and so he would have thrown the game away and probably got us a caning, he's a fucking liability. If Shearer has done it you would be spunking man. The lad cant win Yeah, theres nothing i like more toon players moronically throwing games away. In clinging to some desperate attempt to hid the fact your about the only person left who thinks Taylor is anything other than shite, you are talking complete and utter bollocks. Admit you're wrong, he's shite and that's the reason i'm having a go at him, or you're looking like a complete tool. Or go and find a load of posts by me spunking over Shearer when he's whacked somebody round the neck and should have been sent off. And anyway Shearer has a brain so wasn't likely to do that was he, he'd do what he did to Keane which is wind him up, stand back and watch the fun with the rest of us when he loses it.
