At this level, till the end of the season...definitely give him a go, its Nobby after all!! As people have said his football brain and the fact he's a better footballer than anyone in our current midfield mean unless his legs have completely gone he's got to be worth a shot. Also the chance to get him to work with some of the younger players would be good. Next year if promoted them obviously i would say no, but another few months with Nobby back at St James sounds good to me.

Players of the Season : Enrique without doubt, mention to Nolan for his vital goals, but allround performances not close to Enrique League Position : Delighted. Before season started i had no expectations of being first, so delighted Cup progress : Agreed completely with Hughton resting everyone for Legaue cup and if he does the same in FA cup its fine by me, obviously if we somehow found ourselves in the quarter finals i'd want the first team out there! Performance/Result of the season : Not sure really, but Cardiff away when they wre on form, scoring for fun and at home, i was impressed we ground out a 1-0, also as people have said Reading with a Shola Hattrick, who saw that coming! Goal : Pancrate, though its looking worryingly like he isn't very good sadly Pleasant surprises : Smith as a defensive midfielder at this level, Nolan's goal scoring form, our defensive record and Shola Dissapointments : Ashley still being here

Stay on as a coach yes, stay on as a player a definite massive no! I wouldn't play him in the championship next season, we hope to be in the prem, where he'd have no chance whatsoever!

Was our debut on sky wasn't it, first time on a monday night and electric atmosphere. I remember when the MAthie goal went in we sit next to the stair and jumped out onto them and ended up travelling the length og the staircase to the front, people were going mental!

Barton: Players 'detached from reality'
Papa Lazaru replied to acrossthepond's topic in Newcastle Forum
You wish he would follow uop the stuff he comes out with and produce it on the pitch because lets be honest at his best he'd be our top midfielder, he's not a world beater but he would be our best. However he hasn't shown it, he's trouble and pretty injury prone as well so i'd be happy to see him sold. If he could get his act together, stay fit and keep out of trouble (on and off the pitch) i'd be happy for him to stay as we have very few decent midfielders, but how likely is all of this to happen! -
Like others i hadn't realised he was 26, i know some playesr devloped late, but if he's in league one at 26 he isn't going to make it in the prem next year. And we should be signing players who will be able to play in the prem next season and for a good few years beyond that.

There's no point in moaning about it, they had a legitimate shout for offside with Shola, they deserved that equaliser. Thought Harper was being his usual, casual self anyway and should have done better even if he was fouled. And they deserved at least a point, like you say. What a crock of fucking shit the game was though. Wish I'd stayed in bed. They made that point on the TV, Harper should have cleared the bloke out there, he should have been jumping with his knee up protecting himself and made the ball his. He was fouled and it should never have stood, but a big, dominant keeper wouldn't have allowed the foul to happen. He did make a great reaction save after that though!

I thought your team edged the game, when you see replays both teams had a goal that should have been disallowed and a draw was about right as both teams keepers made a good save. Today Enrique and Colocini were overplaying at the back a bit and got away with a couple of risky moments, but they've been part of a tight defence, with Enrique player of the season for me and quite a few others, and he is always up for it in defence and attack. Butt did play well, certainly defensively, but if you've watched him for a while he's actually finished, this game was a bit of a surprise and fair play to him for that.
-
Fair enough result, though they were the better team for me without the ability or confidence to win the game. Both teams got a goal wrongly given and both keepers with a good save, so pretty even. Poor performance though as we should have been looking to win this game, but draw away and win home and you don't go far wrong.

Strachan is a tactical genius isn't he, Enrique is our best player (possibly the divisions best player) and his game plan seemed to be to continually attack us down the left flank, i don't think the smogs got the ball to the right side of the pitch once in the first half hour! As for us, we didn't play great football but won yet again with the defence impressing and Colo clear man of the match for me. Guthrie chipped in with another assist which he has a knack of but we have no width on the right at all as he's always inside, luckilly Guti and Jose on the left were on form. The strikers were both pretty poor, winning nothing in the air (not helped by some of Harpers kicks, but they should have won some), off the pace and yet both got a goal! Harewood worries me in that he just doesn't seem like he's ever ready/aware, he's always caught out when the ball arrives and shows poor control or hasn't anticipated a ball so doesn't run into the space and for such a big guy he wins little in the air. He's knocked in a few goals at this level so it wouldn't be the end of the world if we kept him on loan longer if nobody else were available, but really he just doesn't look the part as a footballer.

Kevin Nolan - the Championship's best player?
Papa Lazaru replied to ewerk's topic in Newcastle Forum
Nolan has arguably been the most effective player in the league, getting that many goals and often important goals from a midfielder who i do think contributes well in both boxes in defence and attack. However as has been covered he still looks poor and slow at times, but you couldn't have asked for more from his so far and fair play to him for that. For me Enrique is the best player, certainly for us and must be up there with anyone in other teams, the difference is he will be able to do it in the prem, and is about the most important player for us not to sell. -
RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE FOR CHRISTMAS NO.1
Papa Lazaru replied to AgentAxeman's topic in General Chat
The end of that is quality like. So they tell a band who wrote the line "Fuck you i won't do what you tell me" not to swear and thought they would go along with it! Classic -
That Cana does sound like he's going for the rrecord for cards per game this season! Dowie watching the game said he got the yellow after 2 daft tackles and then did the 3rd which could even have been a straight red. And Cattermole is the same, does a good job but is a dirty bastard!
-
Annoying that they snatched a late equaliser, but i'd have happilly taken a draw there before kick off
-
Nice of everybody that they're determined to help us stay top by all beating each other!
-
That's one thing you can say about Hughton, he uses subs more often and better than a hell of alot of previous toon managers, he's made some valuable changes on many occasions.
-
I'm happy that Pancrate gets a start, its a bold and attacking move away from home which i like, and i'd rather see Shola than Harewood up front. However it worries me that he thinks Butt should start matches as he's sadly finished even at this level i suspect, he hasn't got the legs to keep up with the game and will lose the ball too often. I suspect we've been lucky that Butt has missed out with injuries this season or we'd have seen him being picked for alot of games. Not having a go at Butt himself who is a model pro and gives everything, but he's pretty much finished and theres nothing he can do about that.
-
Haven't seen much of him but i'm sure he'll be way ahead of any of our midfielders in terms of skill and technique, plus he won't be slow either! So i'd love to see him here, but he wants to play prem football and Wenger may decide he'd get much more out of competitive prem games rather than strolling through the shit opposition in this leage. Also as somebody said, whilst we as fans would pick him ever week, would Hughton put him in in all the time over the more senior players? Wenger will be thinking about that as well no doubt.
-
The Gerrard that plays for Liverpool is definitely the best all round in the prem, he sometimes drags his team to wins on his own and he's up there with any world midfielders. But the one up until recently who plays for England is a good distance away from the best, he's turned in soem shite for england.

Keegan's promotion team would have had a genuine chance at an unbeaten season in this current division and they'd have broken all records for points totals and goals scored, they'd also have hammered the current NUFC team as well!
-
I've been surprised at just how shit this division is, we are strolling it despite rarely at any point looking impressive. Theres some games where i watch Enrique and think he could probably get a result on his own! But i've been really surprised at the fact pretty much no teams have been tough/hard or got in our faces and roughed us up as everybody said they would. I'd say in most games we've dished out more than the opposition if anything. So not only is it a shit division it also seems to be a nice one as well! How much do you think SJP is a factor? ie do visiting teams freeze in front of a 40,000+ crowd and show us too much respect? Certainly going to contribute at times i think, and reading some comments from Swansea fans after that match they reckoned their team froze or were in awe of us as that first 30 mins is not how they'd been playing at all this season.
-
I'd rather start him and see how much you get out of him, he's a pro athlete and pretty much at his peak age wise, i think even with his lack of games he can manage 45 mins and have a break at halftime and see what he gives you second half. Its going to take him forever to get match fit if you keep giving him little cameos here and there.

Ginola was one of the most gifted players i've seen, more so than Robert for sure, but he wasn't in any way a grafter! Ask Beresford who loved playing behind him but commented more than once on the workload he was left with. Agree with Alex Pancrate should be given a start, see what he can do for 90 mins out wide and move Guthrie into the middle where he belongs to see how he does.
-
I don't know what his natural position is, but i read in the chronicle that Wayford play him wide left and wide right and that he's a left footer who is also good cutting in when he plays on the right. If it turns out he's actually a central midfielder then the guy can play anywhere in midfield and seems like a very good one to try and get here.
