Is Shearer still an integral part of the team?
Papa Lazaru replied to ChocChip's topic in Newcastle Forum
Shearer at or even close to his best would get in practically any team in the world, but now he wouldn't get into Arse, manu, Chelsea, Liverpool team and people are mistaking what he was with what he is if they think otherwise. However the comments about his technique are wrong, he's never been lacking in that area, its his legs that have gone, leaving no pace and little movement. -
Top bloke Gilo, underrated cricketer too. His knock yesterday was superb. 32117 I've always liked him and fans will miss him when he retires and theres nee bugger to replace him! I remember Ritchie Benaud defendng him a while back pointing out he was one of the few englishmen to get 100 wickets and 1000 runs in test cricket. We really do need to find another spinner or two and fast for the future of the test team.

Surely they should be soaked in petrol and then set alight...and be charged for the petrol!

Probably didn't have the seasoned cynicism like those of us who watched cricket before we became good 32074 Aye, fair play to him though. 32075 I bet it would have been worthwhile going to an Aussie bookies after Lords and backing England to win!!!

I'm amazed an aussie is having a go at Warne, the series could have been 5-0 to England without his brilliance. He's one of the alltime great legends in the history of all sports! 32049 After reading his posts bitching about how there is more than one sport in this country I'm ready to petition the government to revoke his citizenship. 32053 Ah Mr Halliwell...... I wondered when you'd show up, wasn't it you who said the Aussies would cream us??? 32064 I'm sure he's just about to make a post commending the England team for being the better side over 5 games and fully deserving to win the ashes from the Aussies, playing some wonderful cricket.

Maybe you should have considered more than just 1) The salary & 2) The number of days holiday when taking the job 32061 He willingly agreed to work in Teeside, i don't think he gave things much consideration

Indeed, reading it back it could seem thats what i meant! -
That brings back memories! At the risk of repeating the same arguments...hip hop/rap covers such a wide range of music that is totally different in style and standard and the best stuff is invariably not the stuff thats around now and in the charts. But we established all that last time i'm sure!

I'm afraid not. For some reason and i have never worked this out, English ref's refuse point blank to send the wanker off. Over the years, and i am honestly not exagerating through watching MOTD and the premiership, i have seen 20+ occasions when Savage could have walked for a straight red or more commonly 2 yellows and refs haven't done it. Its an unbelievable record. 31858 Yeah i know, and Parker gets sent off for that on Saturday. 31861 Yeah, put Savage in a toon shirt and he'd be off for sneezing!

I wasn't implying that at all! I meant its a big advantage being neither a snob or narrow minded as you have shitloads of comedy out there you love and can enjoy! If anybody watches enough of a programme to give it a fair go and doesn't find it funny thats their opinion and its valid. -

All those shows improved AFTER the first 2 series. That's my point. 31849 Simpsons is one of the alltime examples of that, the first series if you go back and watch it isn't in the same league as the later stuff. It definitely got better and better for along while, then reached an amazing level and stayed their for ages. Now it sounds like its declined alot but i dn't have sky so am a way behind other people. Still want to see the episode written by and featuring the voice of Ricky Gervais though. -

I know what you mean about comedy having one job, to make you laugh, but i'm not one for comparing very different types of comedy programme as i love them for different reasons and enjoy the variety. And again i know what you mean about why do the serious stuff, but if its done well and fits with the character and the story like i say its a bit of variety and something different to watch. Of course if its done badly then serious/sad moments in a sitcome can be horribly cringeworthy or make you sick! I love both British and American comedies, theres a masive range between the two, especially when you include the animated comedies and i get so much enjoyment out of this range of comedy. I find being neither a comedy snob or being deliberately narrowminded helps so that i won't slate things because the happen to be big and successful and mainstream as long as they're funny and i won't avoid things that are out there, different and a bit edgy as long as they too are funny. As you say its personal taste ulitmately, and i'm lucky in that there is a massive load of comedy out there from here and the US that i absolutely love and so my room is filled with a gigantic comedy collection of DVD's, videos and stuff taped of the TV. -

British comedies running past a second series can (but certainly not always) be a risk as its often one or two writers working alone. American series have the original creators and core writers but there's a team of people putting ideas and jokes forward to sustain numerous series. As you can guess from my username i'm a LOG fan and i can easilly rate Scrubs alongside it in as much as you can rate to vastly differing programmes only broadly linked by the term comedy. I liked Black Books but don't think its as good as people say sometimes and Chris Morris' stuff (all of which i have) is a totally different area to sitcoms and not really comparable. Scrubs has remained consistently funny, inventive, at times serious, always well acted and performed and different to other stuff out there, very impressive throughout. Its like Seinfeld in that its a successful US sitcom but nothing like you expect a US sitcom to be. -

Scrubs is a US sitcom set in a hospital. I really liked it for about a series and then it got very tired. By the time of the wedding it had become a soap opera and just wasn't funny anymore. 31817 Channel 4 is up to series 3 or 4 i can't remember which and its still great and one of the best comedies out there. -

I'll be getting that during lunch at work tomorrow to add to season one, great programme. -
31327 The injury that he picked up against Spain was supposed to be an ankle knock, wasn't it? I don't see how that's related to his hamstring going tbh. 31415 Come on Gem. It's another reason to say 'Souness Out' 31670 Didn't you hear? He's deliberately trying to ruin this club 31680 Will this be a new catchphrase for you? Nobody even me thinks he's outright deliberately trying to ruin the club, however he is ruining it and by continually repeating mistakes and blaming all but himself he's as close as you can get to deliberate without being it. 31714 Dunno, you said it. Did you not? 31767 As i've said before, he's drive me beyond breaking point with what he's doing to the club i love and so every time i talk or post about him i'm angry. I doubt you think i really meant it was deliberate at all because neither me or you is stupid. But like i say, somebody who makes mistakes, doesn't learn and keeps repeating them is only one stage away form somebody who is deliberately fucking us up.
-
Weird that its all over now after everything thats happened, won't seem right not to be waiting for and then watching another great test match!
-
Great to see the King of Spain himself get a 50 against the aussies, well deserved, and Warne ending with 40 wickets for the series is absolutely amazing. Warne couldn't have done anymore for his team and the way Lee was still giving it everything when the ashes are lost and he's gutted was impressive. We've got them and deservd it, but the aussies have been outstanding in every aspect as well.
-
When you think it increses his chances of the sack he really would have to be stupid to be deliberately shite!
-
Have to give alot of credit to Pietersen, Collignwood and Giles for their batting in the middle here when we were introuble. Colly didn't score many, but defended one end and let KP score the runs getting us back into it, and Giles has done a great job with KP as well.
-
Outstanding effort from Pietersen to get your first century on the last day of the deciding test in the ashes with Warne and McGrath bowling like they are.
