  1. Perhaps I did not make myself clear. I agree that British players are stupidly inflated, but Bale, Suarez, and Ronaldo all went to Spanish sides who seem only too willing to pay incredible fees. I do not believe that Shearer would have gone overseas, which would probably mean a decrease in the amount which would be paid for him. It was not an attempt to downgrade his value as a player, merely the market in which he would be bought.
  2. Although he would probably not have gone to Spain, so we are talking about English prices not mental Spanish prices. Probably around the 40-50m, I would have thought.
  3. Precisely, but a Ben Arfa replacement who cost 12m without any discernible benefit.
  4. I think the issue with both Souness and Gullit was that they were so good, as players, that they did not understand how lesser players could not do what they could do naturally. As a result, they could not coach those lesser players. Pardew was a lesser player, but has the opposite problem. He can coach players such as Perch, Williamson, Simpson, but not good players. He ends up with all players at his playing level, or worse
  5. Why are our players the only ones on the pitch who don't know where the kick is going? All the defenders stand around Williamson, waiting for the inept knockdown, while our lot are nowhere near. Just once in a while, you think they could try something different. And Cabella is useless at corners anyway. Surely there is someone else on the team who can kick a ball in the right direction. That was a good free kick from Palace at the end. Lob the ball to the tall player next to the shortest player on the pitch and wait for a proper knockdown. Wish we could do that!
  6. Surely Richards has to be an upgrade on Williamson and Taylor. At least it would mean a different corner routine personnel
  7. That would be my view. Also, he needs to be aware that there is no one else coming for him, before he would consider it anyway.
  8. He still has no heart. He may do alright when there is nothing on the line, but once the team is playing for points, he disappears
  9. I think he may have ruined his own slim chance
  10. Did not do them much good in the end though
  11. If only we had got Douglas when he was available. Shame we missed out on that one (when I say missed out, I really mean the buffoon had not heard of him, so we turned him down just before he signed). Where did he end up - Inter wasn't it? How did he get on, does anyone know?
  12. If only he had taught his brother how to kick a football, as well
  13. Some dodgy keeping there, and I liked the way he would lose track of the ball, throwing the defenders off their game Never forget those Makem slayer goals, though
  14. Perth Glory - I must be a sucker for punishment. Dreadful season, at least we saw a manager sacked and replaced by Kenny Lowe Always good for a laugh though http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVKfH5-vwE8 and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jc_JDmZY1rw
  15. No It would not be so bad if it actually got close to him, at some speed. Lobbing it in his general direction (i.e. towards the penalty area - nothing more precise) will never achieve anything. Presumably all the opposition manager has to say is "the ball is going towards Williamson, don't worry about anyone else. It is likely to end up in our goalie's hands, anyway, because they don't have anyone who can take a corner"!
  16. I thought we got a specialist for just that reason - can't remember her name but she worked with England rugby team didn't she?
  17. Precisely, and I get to avoid finding out the result, so I can watch after work, only to watch that crap - cheese-eating surrender monkeys
  18. The only person in danger would have been Mourinho
