I think Deportivo are mad to be selling Luque, yes he wants to go but for a player who is great for them and was top scorer last season for them, to be letting him go for 9.5 million which is a loss of 500,000, ok doesn't sound alot but they only got him in 02/03 and is doing well for them. Would have thought it would take about 12 million. Great for us, but as everyone knows Deportivo are not in a great situation regarding Finance especially since they are out of Europe. You seem to be getting very excited about Luque. How much do you really know about him? I'm not saying he is not a good player, and not trying to put a downer on this, but I can honestly say I had not even heard of him before our interest. But several threads have popped up from NUFC fans saying what a fantastic player he is, and they know this from watching Spanish football. Deportivo? Really? My concerns are that he is overpriced, he won't fit into the PL, he won't score enough goals (Souness has already said he is not prolific), and that he is joining us for a big pay day (papers have reported he has been enticed by a large "cash sweetener"). Same here really. Owen is proven and if we get him the chances are he won't leave Newcastle. As Man U won't come in, Arsenal won't, Liverpool may but Newcastle will not make a massive loss on him a year or two after breaking our transfer record to bring him home to England.

Honestly IMO Sheperd has we all know is tight with money! So if Real only accepted a bid of 17 million from us from a man who usually offers about 10 quid and then ups the offer to 11 pound 50 pence then will they accept 7 or 8 million from the pool??
