  1. I think his price tag put a fairly sized burden on his shoulders and when he didn't get off the scoresheet for 2 months it just added to the pressure. I don't think he's specifically a bad player - a goal every other game at Leeds and 1 goal in 3 at Burnley suggests there's something there; I just don't think Chris Wood & Newcastle United has worked - sometimes it happens where a player and club don't gel. Many examples of this over the years - Keane at Liverpool; Shevchenko at Chelsea & Bergkamp at Inter are examples that spring to mind.
  2. The stand, and its access points were built in the 60s. OK, they altered the turnstiles post-disaster which improved some level of crowd flow but people were still sent through that tunnel to access the majority of the terrace. It doesn't matter whether you're standing or sitting - the restricted access remains. Should have been razed to the ground as a mark of respect to those directly affected by events that day. I know someone who lost their best mate there and they are still unable to watch a match on the TV that's held at Hillsborough given it's much the same as it was 34 years ago.
  3. I quite like the Championship predictions too https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/soccer-predictions/championship/

  5. I thought Joelinton played a stray pass after the header. Could be wrong mind you, I was too busy screaming "Fuck off!" at the TV
  6. First choice back 5 are playing and the first goal doesn't happen. 2nd one was just brilliantly taken, but there was a fuck up from Joelinton which allowed the opportunity.
  7. Honestly I've got a Mackem 'mate' who hasn't posted on Facebook for absolutely months. Then last night he pipes up with this .... the knob!
  8. Every now and then you come out with something stupid. That's your lot for the 2020s!
  9. Yeah I agree with that. We didn't play badly, it's just our finishing was pretty woeful. I massively questioned Isak being started, and still do. Should have brought him off the bench when the opposition were tired. I also agree with Alex's (I think!) that we should have started strong and then brought the big names off when the tie was won.
  10. Personally I'd award the FA Cup winners a Champions League spot and give 4th in the PL a Europa League spot. Teams would then respect it more.
  11. The side put out were good enough to win. They played like all they would have to do is turn up. I didn't know enough about Sheffield Wednesday to comment on their side, but they played well and were definitely more hungry for it. I turned to my mate after 5 mins yesterday and said I had a feeling it wasn't going to be our day and it annoyingly proved to be right. Howe did try to rescue it by bringing the big guns on, but I think this was more born out of the fact we were losing to a League One side for the second year running. He made some comments a couple of months ago about not ever wanting to make those mistakes again. In hindsight, we don't currently have the resources to battle on 3 fronts so it was probably a blessing. If we beat Leicester on Tuesday it'll soon be forgotten. The saddening thing of all for me is how cheapened the FA Cup has become. As a kid it was the pinnacle of the football season but too many teams treat it like a necessary evil.
  12. Didn't Keiron Dyer almost equalise in the dying moments? If we'd taken it to extra time I think we'd have beaten them.
  13. Hamann can fuck right off TBH
  14. If it came down to Tielemans OR Maddison, which would you prefer? Maddison for me.
  15. Imagine if it was Saudi Arabia? win-win
  16. He's already achieved that for me. Even if we don't reach the heights I'm sure we will, we'll talk about this era with the same recall as we do with that of Keegan and Robson. Howe just 'gets it'.
  17. That'll be Trippier who played 5 league games. What a thick cunt Deexiled is....
  18. Shit times. I was thinking how unbelievably young he was before realising my Mam was 2 years younger than that when she went. I guess it's because it's the generation where we all fell in love with football and Vialli was unreal.
