Shay Given believes that the sooner Michael Owen and Newcastle United can agree a new contract the better. The England striker is in the final year of his current agreement and, at a board meeting in London tomorrow, Kevin Keegan will urge the club's directors to make Owen an appealing offer to extend his current deal so he stays on Tyneside. Owen's £120,000 weekly wage represents a considerable stumbling block to protracted negotiations but replacing him would not be easy and the Newcastle and Republic of Ireland goalkeeper said: "In an ideal world we would all like Michael's contract sorted out sooner rather than later but it is his contract, it is nothing to do with me.
