172137 Watch oot mods aboot

To be clear, I wasn't asking for a discussion, I was saying I didn't want to get into it over there, but I'd be happy to discuss it here. Anyway, while I still think it would be nice to discuss this openly, I've since had a change of heart as I can still see this issue is taken very seriously by some. I'm not being arsey, I just think there are too many accusations thrown around when you try to discuss it, and it's got fuck all to do with me, anyway. 172114 Gemmill started it

As I said to Gemma a while back, don't mistake the forum rules as being anything other than an excuse to fall back on whenever we need to get rid of people who we don't like 171605 Thing is, I don't believe that for a minute. Mainly because one thing you do seem good at is dogmatically sticking to the rules regardless of how "good" a poster is. I mean, banning Verlaine because he used an altered smilie just takes the biscuit. Mind, by rights HTT should have been given a life ban. 171613 No about it
-
Aye don't let him out till I'm unbanned (or do I need to continue to smurf ???)
-
Hmm... I think most of us can interpret when things are said in jest, and when they aren't said in jest. But that's also the reason that we only really act nowadays if a post is reported first. As for your ban... It has nothing to do with the user you directed your comments at or even the severity of the abuse, and you know that. 171484 Why was I then? I honestly don't know. 171488 I'll PM you over there, I want to ask about something else you said too. 171489 Watch it Rocker, no-one expects:

That's certainly a contributive factor, but the feedback about the forum has been lingering since way before christmas. Obviously, certain times of the year are going to bring about different quality of posts, but I think the problem with our nufc section has been consistently there since the two forums split this time last year, if not earlier. 171477 Accept the point, BUT last year was a particularly divisive one (the Souness factor) and there was undoubtedly a LOT of friction around that time which naturally was reflected in the forum and the posting styles. From previous experience (I am old you know) I've seen boards "meltdown" but rarely irreperably. One closed down, it was run by a newspaper as a football forum, and moderated by paper staff, the mods we're over-run trying to react to poster complaints and ended up with more rules than the US constitution, it became more trouble than it was worth. The main board I post on now was started with the lessons learned from that one and it has only the few rules I posted earlier. The ignore function is a great one for defense against irritating posters. One of the things that works well is having a lightly moderated "free for all" discussion area and seperate "serious" football forums where there is zero tolerance to name calling, WUM's or bullshit, offending posts get deleted so as not to spoil a good thread, bad or bait threads get shunted, duplicate threads get merged - no appeal no questions. - it works
-
My posting style hasn't changed since I registered. I post what I'm thinking, and I don't really give a flying fuck how it comes across to people who I will probably never, ever speak to in reality. If you think my posting style is elitist - fine. That's perfectly ok. But don't make the mistake of thinking that I would help out in changing forum rules or forum posting systems to gain a power-rush or something, because you couldn't be further from the truth. The same goes for the other n-o admins too. We're not doing what we're doing because we think we're superior, we're not doing it because we want to sit and judge every thread that's started and decide how worthy it is. We're doing it because the general feedback we get is that the football discussion on forum is a pile of wank and it needs work put into it, and that's all it comes down to. 171467 A pile of wank syndrome hits many boards, mainly because it's been close season (off-season on my NFL boards). I'm sure it will pick up all by itself as the action gets closer and more immediate. Just my four pennyworth (P.S. The N word is the derogatory black person name)

Excellent read Rob, thanks

The Boo's did appear fairly high pitched, in an Aled Jones pre-ball drop sort of way

True it's a well known fact that all players are smuggled through an underground pipeline where interviews are conducted while they feast on rats in the NUFC batcave. Yes, Faye out, Gravesen in, DEPTH! 171149 Not to mention monumental upgrade
-
Not a word I would use easily myself tbh
-
I've really tried to stay out of this but I have to agree here. It's the bit of... 'if the mods feel the thread is worthy..' that gets me. While it doesn't affect me in the slightest as I don't bother posting in their NUFC forum the whole implication leaves a sour taste. 171050 In the boards I've been a member for for years, there are few rules, usually (bearing in mind these are mainly American boards) only 2 No C word No N Word and that's about it Most boards have a Smack area (for naughty posting) and all the mods do is if there's something posted in one of the serious areas which is not pertinent to the subject the offending post will be deleted, if however the thread has degenerated into a bun-fight the whole thread is shunted to the smack-zone. People soon get sick of losing threads and post the inflamatory stuff direct in the smack areas where LOADS of fun is usually had. Bannings are incredibly rare, in boards here it seems a first resort. In my case on N-O I was "pushing the envelope", as it were, but given my previous experiences I would have expected a warning. The weird thing from my perspective is that for example HTT posted Pud's personal details, THAT is the absolute NO NO. If that had happened on stateside board, the offending poster would have been banned but also hunted from forum to forum at which they post and be mercilessly spammed by many members, it is considered really beyond the pale. The other unwritten rule is Attack the post NOT the poster, way too much "I'll kick your face in" in footy boards as well.
-
That would be the Wullie who called me a sick moron, and the Andy who banned me and left the "Don't come back"
-
You've caught me, I may have bent your words a little for comedic effect. And I did call you 'ticko', which no one outside of Hollywood gypsies and Roy Keane (the Hollywood gypsy) ever says! As for you GF - I'll have you know I blame you for the likes of Keating, if you weren't personally financing Walsh and his band of gay and merry soldiers - we wouldn't have to listen to them either. 170993 Don't fret, they'll be extinct soon enough
-
And then decided he was bigger than Joyce, but anyway...back to you, ticko! I'd be forced to eat potatoes...because of a famine...caused by the potato blight. Stick to the one liners, how did you lot ever rule the World? 170979 How's that work???? You were forced to eat spuds because of the famine - OK I get that The famine was caused by potato blight i.e. shortage of potatoes Soooo the thing you were eating was the thing you couldn't get Sounds Irish to me
-
Now stop that, you'll initiate a board war
-
au contraire Naw I'd just get Gemmill's knickers (or thong) in a twist again
-
Why has that Weeble got a snake crawling out of his pocket????
-
Gemmill you KNOW you are a legend, you must be right, obviously I am soooo sorry, you had me soooo good P.S. It was "extinction", I never used "end of their race" Double chomp
-
Ah the king chomper reappears
-
Well not quite (apologies for the previous scandalous wrong accusation) There was a rather robust discussion about homophobia going on and I put forward and defended a couple of interesting theories which we're widely debated and I finally wound with: Thank fuck for aids eh? with the accompanying smilie Obvious bait (albeit tasteless) , but nope "sick moron don't come back" etc etc etc
-
I actually think you're doing a cracking job in that other place. I just thought what was happening was somewhat amusing, that was obviously just me tho. Nuff said, subject dropped. P.S. Dotbum - me take something on a board seriously, you're having a giraffe moi san P.P.S. Gemmill - you missed the "unfairly" got me a life ban (from this location only mind)
