Good news, looks like a great prospect if he can stay fit, and he's young enough for us to have confidence that he will. As has been said, will be interesting to see where he plays and how quickly he becomes a starter. Clearly Howe likes players that can play in a few positions, and its certainly something many modern managers prefer. A similarly promising CB signing and we should be in a pretty decent shape for the new season. Maybe a loan or two as well, LW/forward.

Generic small time football blather thread FOREVER

https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12931160/rule-changes-for-new-football-season-officials-to-crackdown-on-dissent-be-more-lenient-on-physical-challenges-and-add-on-wasted-time "The threshold for a player to be shown a yellow card for dissent will be reduced this season. Whenever more than one player approaches the referee, at least one of those players, and potentially more, will be shown an automatic yellow card. Practically, any player that runs from a distance to approach the match officials will be booked." That should be interesting Seems like more room to hand out subjective yellows I see they focused on time wasting and dissent which is fine but no more clarity on the at times ludicrous offside, VAR decisions -
ManUtd apparently chucking out 72M pounds on Hojlund. The guy scored something like 9 goals last season. I get its about potential etc etc but how much have they spent again this season? Has the whinging about the glazers died out again? I'm still harboring hope Ten Hag will be a failure. Based on his transfer activity more than anything else, the amounts he's got them to pay for the likes of Antony. Mount is far from a guaranteed success and the same can be said for Onana. Then again they just signed a $1B sponsorship deal so they could probably keep on doing this till something works out finally.

Hasn't he been that for a lot of his career though? cant argue with the goals
-
Will always have a soft spot for him, he was one of the very few things that could make Bruce's team anything close to watchable. Good luck Maxi, gota work extremely hard now if you want to be anywhere near as good as you think you are.

I will not.

Lewis Miley - He’s one of our own (Stanley)

Murphy looked good too yesterday. We shouldn't be reading too much into friendlies of course but at least there's players to be worked with. Shocking how that suddenly happens when you've got proper coaches around. Miley looks a class apart. He outshone Joelinton and Tonali yesterday. -

Cucurella is shambolic LB, Eddie wouldn't touch him with a barge pole. -
It's preseason but the defending has been a concern so far. Seems like teams might be looking to exploit our lack of pace at the back give they won't get much joy physically or in the air.
-
Miley looks like a talent, seemed so comfortable on the ball. Gordon and Isak switched positions a couple of times. Gordon did well, good play to create the goal and seems to be getting more used to the team's style. Heavy first touches on a couple of occasions but he's got the right ideas. Isak didn't get in the game much, had 3-4 great moments when he went out wide. Completely different level to anyone else on the pitch when he turns it on.

I know Lascelles played well in Philly but it will be a slightly different environment if he has to step up in Madrid or Munich. We need CB cover. -
Good for us. We can use that to justify shipping Longstaff to Al Ahli for 60M in a couple of years' time.

ASM announcement imminent
-
It's beyond parody. I hope it'll further motivate the club and owners to really rub it in the face of these hypocritical bastards as we slowly gain the revenue/income streams to be able to do so.
-
Pretty much everyone likes him, we're mostly having to slag him off because of LTA
-
This is why anyone that watches actual football is excited about this signing:
-
From what I saw of Barnes last season I'm far less concerned about him putting a shift in than I'd be about ASM if he stayed here.
-
I expect most of these footballers to be spending their free time in Dubai etc. A lot of expats in Saudi, especially before MBS started opening up the place up, already do that. A short 2-3 hours flight away and with the kind of money these guys are on there's few places you could enjoy more luxury.
-
I think the only real concern with him is the recent bad injury. Still very young though. Haven't seen a lot of him admittedly but he seems to fit the type most of us were calling for at LB last season, pacy, great on the ball and able to provide a threat when attacking.
-
I'm not saying he'll necessarily be shite. Looks like a few CL clubs looked at him and decided otherwsie. I don't see any of the European big boys chasing him either. Makes you wonder. Also re France squad:
-
Not that bothered. If us, Arsenal and other clubs that were rumored to be in for him kept their distance then there is likely a good reason. Might just be a Villa level player.
